The cycling world already answered this for us... some people like to mountain bike, and some people prefer a road bike - so bike companies invented a hybrid - which does neither well.

I just sold my 22 cc bay boat. i could get in less than a ft of water with the jackplate and i could go out about 20 miles and feel great about it, i am buying me a skiff that can get me in all the places i couldnt on my bay boat, i live in Tampa fo we have a lot of backcreeks and flats fishing. to me thats what would work.

@@easterncurrentfishing Not positive yet as I am moving to Eastern NC in 2 months. When I get down there I am definitely interested getting out on the water with you after I settle in. Keep up the good work your information has been invaluable with getting me started on better understanding the fisheries that you guide out of.

Great conversation! “If you could only have one boat” seems like code for “if you could only fish one way”…no one boat does it all, so it seems like a calculation between what you want to do more of, and what you want to give up. I have a bay boat but couldn’t get into shallow enough water to chase redfish so I supplemented with a kayak.

This was a great conversation. I was in a similar situation last year. I had an East Cape VHP for inshore/bass fishing and Robalo R207 dual console for family cruising. I got tired of all the maintenance/upkeep, storage fees for trailer storage, etc so I sold the VHP and will be selling the Robalo this year. I’ll be building an Egret Moccasin 210 sometime this spring/summer as a do it all boat.

I live in Clearwater Florida and I fish the bay and Pinellas intercoastal. I own a 1975 Aquasport 170, a bay boat, there are places I cant go, the 170 drafts about 11" on plane so I can't get in SKINNY water on plane but thats ok. Most of the fish in SKINNY water are too small anyway. When running around, chasing Tarpon or off to the next spot I love being able to do that in heavier bay chop without dropping my kidneys on the deck which is what it feels like in a SHALLOW running flats boathappe 🙂👍👌🤣
