- More work on the 532ci BBC for the Mustang over at Mike's shop. I run into some self inflicted issues, lol...... I mean, it is my first rodeo with a big block so I'm not being too hard on myself..... But, like it seems every time I go over there, I think I'm almost done just to have to order more parts! Mike is tearing down his LS engine trying to find the copper...... you ain't gonna believe this one either.... He found it, but not what we were expecting at all. Racecar Life

That Vega is sweet
I, agree!
If you’re beating the pin bushings out, it’s usually detonating!
Dart makes a lifter valley head stud kit that comes with four machined steel spacers that go on the studs before the washer and nut! Ten times stronger than washers that don't actually fit! Another person mentioned to have a machine shop Keensert those four hidden studs threaded holes in the heads! THIS IS A MUST! The aluminum is not thick enough for just a 3/8-16 thread because I had one of those pull the thread out and the steel spacer got wedged between the oil drain back slot and the cam lobe! Bent almost every valve in both heads! This happened in a burnout at 6 grand! You will be glad you put those Keenserts in! I also installed screens over those drainback slots in the lifter valley!
Vega seems like a blend of cars depending on the angle, 70s camaro, vette, they are nice if done right
You need spacer for the inside bolts summit sells them. Dart makes them
Detonation!!
Mike is a great guy he should buy John aluminum small block and build it and put it in his car.
Yes John, since the gasket is unsupported, you can snip the gasket where you pointed out just enough for the stud to go through where the slot is in the block. Don't take the whole tang off though. Won't cause any issues if you do what I say.
I have seen a lot of head gaskets that come snipped right there
If the pin bushing is pushing out like that it's almost certainly a detonation issue.
You can order individual studs from Mc master carr. They come in with arp stamped in the top. We had good luck with them. Also the afr does use a little different stud arrangement.
Ford diesel grey works really well with copper gaskets
Yes AFR heads are different. ARP does make studs for AFR heads!!! Found out the hard way.
Slot them gaskets
Time-sert those stripped head bolt holes. They are much better than helicoils.
Not! Watch the Torque Test Channel's test on thread repair options. Heli coils beat time serts. I'll never use time serts. Have never had an issue with heli coils.
John order a new set from Summit. It will come with digram and directions. Thank you.
ALWAYS warm up a new build with as minimal stuff on it as possible!! ALWAYS!!! If you have a run stand, bolt it up and warm it up that way instead of it being inside the car.
You can then check for oil contamination, monitor oil pressure, listen for any unusual problems, etc etc etc. And it can be run with just water or even without water for a minute or two.
What up bro
ask Nick P HH about putting the big block together he knows em
Enjoyed the content John!!
That's crazy how tje bushings are walking out like that.
Might wanna get up with Nick from Hustlin Horsepower haha he knows all about those BBC engines
Hylomar won’t keep the water from leaking on copper gaskets. I talked to Deacon (Jet Lube)subsidiary. They recommend their Deacon 4011 for copper gaskets. You will not reuse the gasket have using the 4011.
I’ve had good luck with hylomar. I’ll look into the deacon too though! Nothing worse than a water leak! Thanks
Might ask a professional but that bushing looks oil starved. Might double check oil clearances on the new set before it’s to late.
I sense Turbos in Michael’s future… and I’m a Procharger guy!
Yeah, they blow up a lot less than prochargers, too!
This channel and others have convinced me to stay far away from owning a race car. Nothing but headaches!
Small block
Did you check the wrist pin clearance on those new boost line rods? I have them and they come too tight from wiseco. I had mine opened up to .00095
Big ☆ Block onehundreadpersent John. See u at * war....'°°%
I'm telling you turbo John that tax gets expensive they got mad about them wiring nuts! You think we're playing about that tax we're not! Raccoons!
That guy blows up high dollar ls engines like most blow up sbe ls engines .
Next time you might want to mute the TV…
And not listen to the king of the south shootout, you are crazy.
Junk chevy problems..
Like Ford or Blowparts would be better? It’s not Chevy problems. It’s race car problems.
What non chevy do you have that is faster than these chevys? Prove it.
Nothing I own but I’m pretty sure turbo John helps on certain Red small block ford powered mustang that is faster … just throwing that out there lol . Let the hate begin!!! Hahahahaha .
I would think you should do your research BEFORE you start building an engine? I don't understand how you have so much knowledge and so LITTLE knowledge? Content? Anyway I'll keep watching for the answers?
Why don’t you spit out your knowledge Mr genius. Guarantee he has 10 times the knowledge you got. I can tell by your comment that you don’t know crap
@@southsidexpresssettle down simp . John don’t give a shit about his comment or yours .
So many people are lucky he shares his experience and knowledge.
