And there Mondo has the 3rd best time on 100m for Sweden this year!
Get Mondo on Sweden's 4x1!!
Also Karsten with the 2nd fastest of Norway!! Both crazy athletes
Yes and only 29 hundredths from the Swedish record (10.08)
@@jonkauf4812 mondo have previously said he would love to do a 4x100 for Sweden in a championship if Sweden had a team. Too bad Sweden haven’t got that many sprinters.
@@jonkauf4812Absolutely!
Mondo and Warholm just casually running top five national records for their countries lmao
Outstanding exhibition match race. Thanks for not posting a spoiler in the title or thumbnail, Citius Mag.
I would like to see challenges of this kind between the fastests players in NBA, NFL, soccer, rugby, handball etc...
Haven't you heard about Tyreek Hill (NFL wide receiver) challenging Noah Lyles to a sprint?
@@MA-ck4wuhe challenge's everyone and won't race. Hill won't even race other football players

I like that they're speaking Norwegian and Swedish to each other at the end.
yeah i wasn't expecting that. native 🇸🇪 and 🇳🇴 speakers can understand each other, but Mondo isn't a native speaker so i thought he wouldn't understand norwegian
@@pbrynild is it like Dutch and Flemish (Belgium)?
@@santeenl more or less, yes

I really appreciate the positivity and friendliness between them. Sport doesn't need to be negative to achieve at the highest levels. In fact all of sports psychology focuses on having a positive mindset.
Well said!
Agreed! Love seeing this kind of challenge.
@@tktoadE generally in athletics in my experience it’s always positive. Rarely bad blood
This was fun, I hope this continues because it makes athletics more fun. Fantastically funny and as a Norwegian, it's hell to see a Norwegian competing in a Swedish national team outfit. I love it!
Two champions, friends and best in the world in their disciplines, I love these athletes in a world full of hate!
Fr, now I wanna see more of these "non-sprinters" do 100m against eachother
Oh my, I was shouting from the sofa, when I saw Mondo getting out with that speed!!! He was on front every single second! Amazing, well done both of them ❤❤
I love how they speak Swedish and Norwegian to each others by the end of the video. Norwegian isn't always easy to understand for a native Swedish speaker so good job, Mondo!
Insane really that he has that speed in him. Huge respect to Mondo, what a beast of an athlete he is 🔥
And the best is that Karsten have to run in Swedish colors tomorrow!
Imagine if he broke The World record tomorrow. He won’t but imagine he did. 😂😂😂
Nah, Norway actually is Sweden. They are our brothers from another mother. Notice Karsten and Mondo speaking Swedish and Norwegian in the end of the video. Best friendship on earth - almost the same country - lovely people, the Norwegians.
sidequest of the year
That backshot at the end will be legendary.
This is what track and field needs
Track needs more of these weird head-to-head battles. Next one they should put hurdles in front of Karston, and make Mondo run with the pole.
Impressed by his technique. So clean and effective basically start to finish. Gave nothing away👏👏🔥
Loved the coverage of two great athletes. Thank you for not spoiling the outcome.
Track & Field - GOTTA Love it!!! Great show, but Too short!
Well, it is a 100m dash, can't drag it out too long
I wish I could get the reaction times of both. Karsten seemed to have a slow one.
Congratulations for Mondo and Karsten. Such events are meant to be repeated. It s utmostly refreshing!
" Karsten seemed to have a slow one (reaction out of the blocks) . "
Karsten´s legs are trained for 400 mtrs and Mondo´s for 50. If You run 400 mtrs it does not pay off to explode out of the blocks because You will need to have stamina in your legs for a much longer run then Mondo´s 50 mtr. Mondo really because he was able to keep his speed for his normal first 50 mtrs and also hold the speed for another 50. If the race had been 400 mtrs flat that "slow reaction" would have paid off and Karsten would have won. Well, this is my analysis, but I´m not sure I´m, right ?
@@staffanlundberg Accurate assessment, I think. Mondo apparently does some block training as part of his regular routine. And when you’re a quarter mile specialist (flat or hurdles) you tend to come out of the blocks a little more relaxed.
Damn the intro took forever!!!! Duplantis went to work! I'm stunned. Warholm is a living legend for goodness' sake and so fast over the hurdles. Didn't expect Mondo to have that kind of speed but then, we're talking about a man that runs at top speed with a freaking pole and vaults into the heavens. Duplantis start out of the blocks was fabulous. Had the jump on Karsten. Oh no he didn't! Mondo's looking over at Karsten like Sha'carri did to Daryll Neita at the Olympics. Mondo's confidence has to be through the roof. All in good fun!
Right! Like you, I thought that short burst they normally do in pole vault would definitely give Mondo an edge. But then also I am biased, I am a Mondo fan since the just-ended Olympics. I think he is great athlete. They both did well. I hope the organisers continue to do these 'side quest' challenges at other meets too!
That was even better than I expected. Great race from both guys.
Thank you so much Wonderful athletes
This was such an Unicorn of an event. It was just brilliant! Go Mondo / Proud Swede
That was awesome. I want wasn't expecting 10.37 from Mondo. I'm shocked!
He should be on the Sweden 4x100 team!
@@neal_olson If we had a team. But we don't...
Their start were different Mondo was start was a 100m start fast out the block head low and Karsten typical 400m start. Love it Congratulations Mondo well done Karsten
Apparently he had Fred Kerley work with him on his start. 🙂
Pole vaulters run about 40 meters and had their top speed at the last 5 meters of the 40. 20 steps. They are explosive as hell
Very entertaining ! This is good for Track and Field. We need more of this. I am still waiting for the race between Usain Bolt and Chris Gayle
Such a great production! 😯
Honestly I was more surprised at Warholm's time, Pole is all about 45m sprint to jump, while Warholm train for a full lap on hurdles. And if anything Warholm just has a slower reaction speed here, because after the first 10-15m the distance between them doesn't change, so he has the same top speed as Duplantis
That was a good race. Ngl
🇸🇪🇳🇴👍🔥😎
Mondo should do the decathlon
Don't think he is a proper long distance runner or a shot putter, javelin and discus thrower.
@@sehu1291One of the things that makes Mondo so unique as a pole vaulter is that he’s so lean and has such a great strength-to-weight ratio. Most pole vaulters are pretty big dudes. Sam Kendrick is kinda the pole-vaulting prototype. Mondo’s built more like a gymnast.
A lot of pole-vaulters do a decathlon at some point. Mondo’s mom was a multi-eventer so I reckon she could help train him. He’d really struggle in a few events but I reckon he could score 8000 points if he spent some time on it. It’d require a lot of commitment though & he’s just entering his peak. Maybe when he gets older…
@@GrahamCStrouse never. He would loose so much at 400m and 1500 meter (he is built for 40 - 60 meter, he said the last meters were really hard) and the throwing and putting competitions. 8000 points is a lot. He is not a allrounder. Even at his good 100m he would be only third at the decathlon with this time. Pole vault he would made the most points of course but the best decathlon jumpers at the olympics are not even under 1m under mondos World record. And except pole vault (where he need his world record for just 1200 to 1400 points) and 100m plus I think long jump and high jump and maybe hurdles he would screwed in the other 5 competitions because he never trained them and his stamina is not really good because he don't need stamina. Even if he jump his WR in pole vault he would only get 1200 to 1400 points for this. And they are better 100m runners and long jumpers and high jumpers. And 400 and 1500 meter he would have zero chance
@@GrahamCStrouse 8000 points are not even enough points for the top 15 at the olympics btw at decathlon
Now I really want to see what time MONDO can get if he really start practice 100 meters! For me he is the best athletic man the world have seen. What planet did he come from!!?? 💪💪💪
He already trains a lot like a sprinter, so I'm not sure if he can improve a lot.
@@fredrikeriksen8953 Rooth, neugebauer, victor, delerme, skotheim, mayer and warner all clear
Exactly. He’s definitely an amazing athlete, no denying that. But as far as 100m speed, this is likely around his potential. People seem to think he doesn’t run at all or something. If that was the case I’d be like “this guy is gonna break the WR 🤯”
@@Ximme He went down in weight several kilo this year to improve the pole wault, if he put on more muscle he would be faster
@@fredrikeriksen8953 for what? He would never run under 10 seconds. Never. I love Duplantis and he is the best athlete since Bolt but to run under 10 seconds is so difficult you can't imagine. Only 198 sprinters in the history of mankind ran under 10 seconds. The difference between Duplantis' 10.37 and 9.99 is almost unimaginable, it's as different as Duplantis and a decathlon pole vaulter. And from the 198 only 4 white sprinters run under 10 seconds in legal conditions. Lemaitre is by far the GOAT of the white sprinters and even he "only" ran 9.92 seconds for which he needed the maximum allowed tailwind of 2.0 metres per second. The 3 other white sprinters needed a tailwind of 1.3 and 1.6 metres per second for the 9.97 and 9.98 respectively. Only Tortu managed to run a 9.99 with a comparatively low +0.2 m/s. By comparison, Bolt ran 9.77 seconds despite a 1.7 metre/second headwind. And he achieved his world record in Beijing of 9.69 without a tailwind. Even for the existing world record of 9.58, he only needed a tailwind of 0.9 metres per second. Almost all the white athletes needed well over 1 m/s tailwind for just under 10 seconds. That's down to genetics. Warholm ran about as fast as the women's world record. Duplantis would have had to concentrate purely on sprinting as a child to have a chance of running under the almost inhuman 10 seconds. And even then probably not because he wasn't made for it. Long jumpers are more akin to sprinters but even to run under 10 as a long jumper you have to be a Carl Lewis. Pole vaulters have a different body. Duplantis would have to give up pole vaulting right now and train only in sprints if he really had the stupid idea of trying to run a sub 10.00 time, which is impossible for him. He is still young but already too old to retrain like that. But for what? In the best case scenario, being average instead of world records
I think that we should see more of this, i want to see like distance athletes vs a high jumper or something, it would be super cool!
Wtf? 10.3 and 10.4? I’ve always thought track and field athletes would be elite in other events, but this is very impressive. Great event.
Great entertainment, even greater champions! Fantastic!
Karsten is a good sport! Respect!
Mondo came out with speed. Congrats Mondo 🔥🔥🔥🫡💪🏾
Esperaría que Warholm tomara la ventaja al haber sido decatlonista, ser un atleta de pista y estar más acostumbrado al tartán. ¡Excelente demostración de estos grandes atletas!
Thanks for Not Spoilering in the Title 😁🤝😁
They just uploaded a spoiler version as well so dont worry ;)
NBC could learn a few things from them…😉
I didn’t expect that result! I thought Karsten would definitely win. It makes you wonder how many athletes could do multiple events.
In what multiple event do you think Mondo could compete? 😅 10:37 wont go very far at 100m. But its for sure impressive!
@@kezman82a I don’t know, it’s just a thought. I do wonder how people decide to do the decathlon though. What’s the winning time for 100m in the Decathlon? I will have to look this up.
@@jessicashepherd2276 He would’ve placed third in the Olympic decathlon this year in the 100m. I think he could be a winning candidate for decathlon. Probably good in all events except the throwing ones and he could compensate that by jumping half a meter higher than the competition in the pole vault.
@@kezman82a Who knows how well he could do with proper coaching and block practising..? I'm pretty sure he's got potential both as a high jumper and long jumper, as well...

68~70 is perfect temp for running bro~
Two amazing athletes. I don’t believe any other pole vaulter is faster. And imagine Karsten running almost that fast 4x that distance and over hurdles.
Not true. It is a known fact that Sergei Bubka (former WR holder in the pole vault) was a 10.2 100M sprinter.
Mondo is faster than the fastest woman in 100 metres!
And Karsten also! Flo-Jo ran only 10.49

10:37 is a very fast time. Put it in perspective, there are Olympic Heats (YES Olympics) with times slower than that. I counted 52! times in the mens 100m event in the 2024 Olympics that were SLOWER than Mondo's time. This means that Mondo is undoubtedly an Olympic caliber 100m runner. Now would he be elite? No he wouldn't, but he would belong. Especially when you consider that he could obviously run faster if he were dedicated.

Mondo is the king 👑
Now you know why he's so good at pole vault. He's combining perfect technique with incredible speed. Only a world class sprinter under 10s with a real pole vault training will be able to beat Duplantis in this century and it's not gonna happen soon.
Mahn! Respect for mondo!😂
Great for the sport really 🔥🔥
OMG! The footballers are going to start challenging sprinters again!
Like the announcer, I thought the start would decide the race. BUT I assumed Warholm would have the best start. After all, pole vaulters don't use blocks. 10.37. Wow.

@@ThursdaysChild842 male vs female biology… let’s be real. In male sprint times Shelly Ann would be a 9.6… runner. Elaine would be a 9.5 runner
That makes no sense at all. How does that conversion work in your head? Sounds like you pulled those numbers out of a very specific hole. Fact is that she's slower than him.
@@verstappen9937 male sprinters are more optimised because there is more competition so it’s more likely they would be 9.8 runners

SUPER sportowcy. Ogromne brawa dla obu MISTRZÓW.
How does the "track" athlete get beat by the "field" athlete ? And the track athlete's a sprinter too!
@@estvescalders6597 the same as how does a 1500 hp Volvo beat a 700 hp Ferrari in a dragrace. Pretty simple.
warholm is more a strength sprinter, whereas Mondo is more speed oriented
Because Mondo is really fast and regularily trains sprint to be better at pole vault.
@@estvescalders6597 I was also surprised. My explanation is that Warholm is a 400m H specialist, and is thus less used to shorter sprints. The chosen 100m distance definitely favoured Mondo on the other hand, with a solid HS career as a sprinter and regular 40m run-ups in his pole vault event. If the distance had been 200m, I think it definitely would've been a closer call with Warholm taking the win IMO.
@@ManlikebenjI think Karsten would've won 200 m with a rather big margin. In the end when they talked Swedish and Norweigian Mondo said the last 20 m was very hard for him. He's a 40-50 m specialist, 200 m is 4-5 times his distance.
