    • @staffanlundberg

      " Karsten seemed to have a slow one (reaction out of the blocks) . "
      Karsten´s legs are trained for 400 mtrs and Mondo´s for 50. If You run 400 mtrs it does not pay off to explode out of the blocks because You will need to have stamina in your legs for a much longer run then Mondo´s 50 mtr. Mondo really because he was able to keep his speed for his normal first 50 mtrs and also hold the speed for another 50. If the race had been 400 mtrs flat that "slow reaction" would have paid off and Karsten would have won. Well, this is my analysis, but I´m not sure I´m, right ?

      @@staffanlundberg Accurate assessment, I think. Mondo apparently does some block training as part of his regular routine. And when you’re a quarter mile specialist (flat or hurdles) you tend to come out of the blocks a little more relaxed.

Didn't expect Mondo to have that kind of speed but then, we're talking about a man that runs at top speed with a freaking pole and vaults into the heavens. Duplantis start out of the blocks was fabulous. Had the jump on Karsten. Oh no he didn't! Mondo's looking over at Karsten like Sha'carri did to Daryll Neita at the Olympics. @@sehu1291One of the things that makes Mondo so unique as a pole vaulter is that he’s so lean and has such a great strength-to-weight ratio. Most pole vaulters are pretty big dudes. Sam Kendrick is kinda the pole-vaulting prototype. Mondo’s built more like a gymnast.

    • @GrahamCStrouse
      @GrahamCStrouse 2 месяца назад +1

      A lot of pole-vaulters do a decathlon at some point. Mondo’s mom was a multi-eventer so I reckon she could help train him. He’d really struggle in a few events but I reckon he could score 8000 points if he spent some time on it. It’d require a lot of commitment though & he’s just entering his peak. @@GrahamCStrouse never. He would loose so much at 400m and 1500 meter (he is built for 40 - 60 meter, he said the last meters were really hard) and the throwing and putting competitions. 8000 points is a lot. He is not a allrounder. Even at his good 100m he would be only third at the decathlon with this time. Pole vault he would made the most points of course but the best decathlon jumpers at the olympics are not even under 1m under mondos World record. And except pole vault (where he need his world record for just 1200 to 1400 points) and 100m plus I think long jump and high jump and maybe hurdles he would screwed in the other 5 competitions because he never trained them and his stamina is not really good because he don't need stamina. Even if he jump his WR in pole vault he would only get 1200 to 1400 points for this. And they are better 100m runners and long jumpers and high jumpers. @@fredrikeriksen8953 for what? He would never run under 10 seconds. Never. I love Duplantis and he is the best athlete since Bolt but to run under 10 seconds is so difficult you can't imagine. Only 198 sprinters in the history of mankind ran under 10 seconds. The difference between Duplantis' 10.37 and 9.99 is almost unimaginable, it's as different as Duplantis and a decathlon pole vaulter. And from the 198 only 4 white sprinters run under 10 seconds in legal conditions. Lemaitre is by far the GOAT of the white sprinters and even he "only" ran 9.92 seconds for which he needed the maximum allowed tailwind of 2.0 metres per second. The 3 other white sprinters needed a tailwind of 1.3 and 1.6 metres per second for the 9.97 and 9.98 respectively. Only Tortu managed to run a 9.99 with a comparatively low +0.2 m/s. By comparison, Bolt ran 9.77 seconds despite a 1.7 metre/second headwind. And he achieved his world record in Beijing of 9.69 without a tailwind. Even for the existing world record of 9.58, he only needed a tailwind of 0.9 metres per second. Almost all the white athletes needed well over 1 m/s tailwind for just under 10 seconds. That's down to genetics. Warholm ran about as fast as the women's world record. Duplantis would have had to concentrate purely on sprinting as a child to have a chance of running under the almost inhuman 10 seconds. And even then probably not because he wasn't made for it. Long jumpers are more akin to sprinters but even to run under 10 as a long jumper you have to be a Carl Lewis. Pole vaulters have a different body. Duplantis would have to give up pole vaulting right now and train only in sprints if he really had the stupid idea of trying to run a sub 10.00 time, which is impossible for him. He is still young but already too old to retrain like that. But for what? In the best case scenario, being average instead of world records

    Now you know why he's so good at pole vault. He's combining perfect technique with incredible speed. Only a world class sprinter under 10s with a real pole vault training will be able to beat Duplantis in this century and it's not gonna happen soon.

      @@estvescalders6597 I was also surprised. My explanation is that Warholm is a 400m H specialist, and is thus less used to shorter sprints. The chosen 100m distance definitely favoured Mondo on the other hand, with a solid HS career as a sprinter and regular 40m run-ups in his pole vault event. If the distance had been 200m, I think it definitely would've been a closer call with Warholm taking the win IMO.
