The Som Tam QUEEN (Sooo SPICYYY!!) + Eating RAW MEAT + Soi 20 Market | Silom, Bangkok

- Started off at Soi 20, a road home to a morning market. I would have to label this market as the market “to go”. That is because you can find anything and everything in a plastic bag and ready to take away or grab on the way to the office.
However, right in front is a phenomenal Thai style chicken briyani. The two ladies working it are some of the friendliest people you will meet and are extremely hard working. Nice tender chicken, fragrant and light rice, paired with a nice sweet and sour sauce.
Heading out of the market, had to grab a snack as I walked to my next location for some laab. There was a little bit of a miscommunication and I ended up with two things of laab ,but it was actually a great mistake as they both were really delicious. However, the raw meat laab was by far my favorite. Extremely creamy, soft, and just almost like meat butter.
Time for some noodles!! Now this noodle stall is no stranger to the fame. Unbelievably crowded for lunch, my trick is you have to come get these noodles for breakfast! Pork, on pork, on pork, this bowl of noodles is loaded in with the pig. Make sure to drench these in some chilis as the tom yum sauce tends to be really sweet and slightly sour.
The som tam QUEEN!!! This lady is amazing. So much fun to watch her make som tam, not to mention she runs this place like a boss! Be careful if you say spicy as she will give you the real deal and doesn’t care if you can handle it or not. Best som tam I had in Bangkok. However, it isn’t complete without the pik gai yang dipped in that addicting tamarind sauce.
After a sweet snack and a little bit of a rest, I went to a super late night joint to get the moo ping, or grilled pork. This man is super famous and for good reason. High quality pork, high heat, and a fabulous sauce. I was just sad they forgot to give me my sauce this time.

Hahaha I had the exact same experience at Som Tam Jay So. The lady asked if I wanted spicy, I said yes, and she proceeded to rib me as I sweated like a madman devouring the plate of Som Tam and making sure not to dishonour my family by tapping out! Came back a few more times during my trip-BBQ meets were great too. Really friendly and welcoming people.
The sticky rice with kaya at soi silom 20 really was something else... just salivating thinking about it 🤤

@@Macoi24 Born and raised in LA (Lower Alabama), and like you, have the travel bug. My wife is from Bangkok, where I lived for about four years! Now we call Asheville, North Carolina home. Probably next Spring we will be flying to Bangkok for a visit. Maybe we can meet up one day, somewhere. Keep having fun! That custardy dessert, btw, is a custard make with rich coconut cream and duck eggs. So tasty! If you have a chance, try the dessert stand at one end of Soi Rambuttri (a road down a bit from Khao San). Their iced desserts are really good. Take care.

Haha, I've heard of the term lip-smacking enjoyment but you certainly showed us what it's all about when you had that Thai Tea-Coffee! Haha, that chopstick boo-boo was hilarious. I never would have noticed had you not owned up to it. Regardless, you are skillful with the chopsticks, better than most people I know. And with people I mean myself. The sticky rice with sangkhaya ... wow! I can have that but with more of the custard puhleeease! :) I can feel the sugar rushing through my veins like someone had opened the floodgates wide open.
