I have been a west coast Tar Heel fan since 87. The great thing about this rivalry from 3000 miles away is that it seems it ebbs and flows back and forth with no one ever really getting a sustained upper hand in it. However, thank god I got to go to New Orleans for the 2022 final four showdown. We will always have that! Go Heels!!!!

Speaking of "the other," I briefly met Jeff Capel one day in the Harris-Teeter and he's just the nicest guy! I wish him well. I also frequently take walks at Duke on weekends and one morning encountered Coach K. He also was very nice, although I suspect he might have been a bit less personable if I had acted like a pain-in-the ass fan, instead of politely saying "hi" and moving on (I figured he was on his way to work).

The man at 4:06, standing in front of Duke Chapel, is Steve Schewel, current mayor of Durham (where Duke is located) and a Duke alum. He ALSO is a great guy (and an excellent mayor).

I've been privy to this rivalry as a Durham native since I was 6 years old (1980),and there is nothing like it anywhere. These two teams bring out the best in each other, you factor in that one is a private college, the other is a public college and the short distance between them, you can't even write up a script for something like this!! GO DUKE!!

Nice...getting pumped for the 2017 matchup at Cameron and stumbled upon this gem...Kenny, I recall fondly how totally unabashed you were as a freshman, didn't have the hype that other players in your class had, and you didn't give a crap about the naysayers. I had season tickets '76 thru '79 (until they priced me out ) and still cherish the excitement and passion of gameday at Cameron. Tip of the hat...Go Duke!

It's been a lot of fun over many decades. Of course, it's always MORE fun when Carolina wins. :)) Went to Carolina, worked for Duke, so, that ameliorates some of the pain when Duke wins.

After 50 years of being a Tar Heel fan, it just gets better and better with age! Nothing better in basketball! Go Heels!

Is this the same kenny dennard that played for Foster and with Banks and Giminski or simply happen to have the same name? I remember Dennard fondly and those games back in the day. I believe you (he) had a bout with cancer some time in the past. He (you) spoke kindly of coach Smith upon his passing. If I'm in error I preface this with acknowledgement of it.

Kenny Dennard Hey Kenny. I don't recall what age you'd be mid to late fifties perhaps. I'm 66 and came of age watching to old timers back when Vic Bubas and Bucky Waters was Duke's coach. I remember really liking guys like Bobby Verga, Jack Marin, Jeff Mullins. Though like most people loathed Art Heyman who as the story goes once registered at a motel with his girl friend as Oscar Robinson. I remember watching the game that erupted in a fight between him and Larry Brown and the bench clearing brawl. Good times some would say. Of all Carolina players my favorite all time was probably James Worthy and or Bobby Jones. I hope life is well for you and you are having success in whatever you are presently pursuing. If I recall you at least got drafted in the NBA. Of all your attributes I recall you had great tenacity and a will to win and Duke should be grateful for you having played there. And I very much recall that Gene Banks shot you assisted on and losing in OT. Being a Tar Heel fan I can only put a pox on the memory of it. I bet like me you are looking forward to the game tonight.
