I would suggest covering the soil surface with the Parafilm during the leaching period. Otherwise, the evaporation of the surface soil layer will cause a large error in the later WHC calculation.

I searched this up because I was wondering is soil's moisture content can be greater than the soil's own mass like 180 % or something like that... Can you solve my doubt?

    I have one question
In the first method , at the time of using formula the upper thing is in volume (ml) and lower is in( g)
How can you take in % ?

Good experiments but I see two problems. First different soils have different weight densities, that's why they should be measured to equal volume not weight. Second the random method of pouring the water in the first experiment can introduce inaccurate results. For example, at the first round you poured an excessive amount in the second sample. This caused excessive run off.

Hello Thomas, thank you for the demonstration, is WHC the same as field capacity ? if yes, what's a 100% Field capacity, and how do we measure it ?

Hello Thomas, i wonder why you used 25 gram soil to measure the WHC? I mean why 25 gram or is it necessary to use at least 25 gram soil when determining the WHC?

Hello Thomas, I am doing an experiment with plants that requires me to water plants to a 60% saturation level. Do you know how I should do that from having the knowledge on what the soil's water holding capacity is?
