Just bought this little set,small indulgence for miserable January!! Mostly different colours
To what i normally use. So nice i just had to have it...don't quite know what I'm going to paint with

I love Schmincke paints. I recently purchased Hazel Soans new palette from them . It is just beautiful also. So exciting to put the color down. It looks like you can add 6 more 1/2 pans of your choosing to your set. Nice to have that option for sure.

I have ordered a few sets of Schmincke and was not keen on the colours. After seeing this, I got this in the sale, I love this set, great it does not have black and Chinese white as I dont use them. Love the leather case.

I am an art product junkie, have way more than I need but spent some money & time on a steep learning curve of comparison of paint & paper. Really educational. I like the little handbooks too, but I really prefer a journal w 140 pound watercolor paper.
I use to be a lot worse! I know what you mean about 140 lb paper. I have made my own little sketchbooks and put in the paper I really like! 😀
@@KarenRiceArt karen I looked up those sketchbooks & they ARE 140#. They are not 100% cotton, they are a blend I think, but they are really good, I have 3 of them.
3:09 With the first yellow, in the pan package indicates the paint oppacity. The other yellow was less transparent.

It's Ultramarine finest because it's their finest grind pigment out of their French Ultramarines
that affects the granulation properties if memory serves, but I can't remember if lighter pigment particle density makes it granulate more, less, or just differently.
Thank you for your comment Stacey, I think you are right? I have just been experimenting... I used Winsor & Newton Ultramarine and the Schmincke Ultramarine. There is more granulation with the W&S. This would be helpful for those who don't like too much granulation from Ultramarine 😀
@@staceydesorgo it granulates less when it's finely ground. When the particles are bigger, they sink down in the wash and settle in the dips of the watercolor paper.

Maybe I have the wording incorrect. I cannot find this specific watercolours with a leather case. Is this specificity important?

The paynes grey is actually paynes gray BLUISH...WITH A TON OF PHTHALO BLUE...SO NOT their paynes gray which they also make

All watercolor paints are fully reusable when they dry on the palette. What the heck is Schmincke talking about.
Thank you for your comment Raymond. You are right watercolour paints are reusable but can be dry and difficult to create large creamy washes. The Schmincke paints are moist, thus easier to reuse and create larger washes. Although you can spray dried paint with a spritzer bottle and within an hour they are moist. Hope this was helpful Raymond :)
Basically other brands have a different formula for pans vs tubes. Sometimes you can pour out a tube into a pan but it may not rewet the way a pan version of the same color does! Not all WnN tubes rewet well after drying vs using their half pan directly. WnN, Sennelier - all major brands use a method of making pans where the paint is semi dried and in the shape of a long strip which is then cut to fit the pans. But you'll notice schmincke pans are filled to the brim. It's because they're hand poured. 4 TIMES. They take months to dry and this process is repeated 4 times. Schmincke boasts using the same formula for tubes and pans. Hence, you get a very concentrated block of color which is very intense regardless of whether you buy a tube and turn it into pans or buy the pans directly!
