    Julie, you are right this was easy enough to make. I made them the night before I had to have my knee surgery. All I did was fry them up the morning before leaving. I packed them for my husband with a thermos of hot tea so he could have a an easy breakfast while he waited for me to come out of my five-hour surgery. Thank you!

    Am very curious how a hotteok tastes like so I finally made some yesterday using your recipe (substituted roasted sesame seeds for the walnuts). Daebak! It was delish! My family loved it! Each one ate two hotteoks in one sitting. 😁👌🏽

  • @AdamMT1618

    I've never seen it made this way, it looks good though! I only use all-purpose flour, yeast, sugar, salt and I let it rise for an hour. I then add brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling. Poor mans version. haha.

    Everyone please use this!! Over the years, I have used 3 or 4 other recipes (the basic kind, no glutinous rice flour) and this is BY FAR the best I ever had!!! Tastes like 70% bread, 30% mochi--but indistinctively. The rice flour not only makes it insanely light tasting, and quite stretchy. I always add chopped apples into mine, and it usually rips the dough however the stretchiness makes it much more forgiving than all the other recipes.
    (Or maybe dont use this recipe. Due to the lightness and addictive taste, ya bitch ate 3 in one sitting. I usually stop after one)

Even the vdo that had 1.9mill views does not parallel yours in terms of tips (eg glutinous rice flour for chewy texture, make sure nuts are chopped fine, oil yr fist before punching dough). Greatly appreciated this vdo! Clicked subscribed!

      @@ChefJulieYoon Chef Julie: would this work with store bought ready made red bean paste filling? The paste is more solid in texture than the canned japanese version. Paste is used in chinese mooncakes.

      @@ChefJulieYoon I forgot to add, for the benefit of other readers... 1.5 cups of milk was too much liquid for the dough. It did not have any structure at all and I could not shape or fold it close. Slightly more than 1 cup worked just right. Could be because of my room temp (hot@29C) or my APF (not as strong). I love this recipe!

      Thank you for saying that! I'm actually not sure about the answer for your question. I haven't tried it with anything but sweet rice flour. So I don't know if the texture or taste would be exactly the same. The sweet rice flour is what gives it a soft yet chewy texture that crisps up when fried.

    Is it fine to just use rice flour instead of sweet rice flour?
    And can i put it in the freezer (when its still raw) after i shaped it?
    Thank you so much for your video! :)

    • @ChefJulieYoon
      @ChefJulieYoon  8 лет назад +2

      You know... I can't verify an answer to either of your questions because I haven't tried it. Maybe you can check online to see if the rice flour gives you the same consistency as sweet rice flour... I think it should, but I'm not sure. Also, in theory it seems like you can freeze the dough after you fill and shape it, but I don't want to lead you astray since again I've never tried it. They do sell kits that are "raw" and frozen into shape that you just fry up at home, so I'm assuming you can.
