- I played Gertrude McFuzz in my high school's production of Seussical five years ago. This summer, they're tearing down our beloved auditorium to build a new performing arts center, and while this is a huge step for the future of drama students that attend my old school, it's incredibly sad for those of us who spent days and weeks of our lives rehearsing and performing in that space.
To say goodbye to the theatre, we held a drama alumni reunion and farewell show, where many old students came back to perform on the stage one last time. My way of saying goodbye was to sing one of my Gertrude songs (as it was my favorite role I ever played), five years later.
I can't explain what this experience meant to me, but I thought you might enjoy me sharing it with you.
Goodbye, my lovely theatre. I have you to thank for so much of who I am today. The memories made in that theatre will never be forgotten.

Guys, this was a reunion. She played Gertrude 5 years ago. They were tearing down the theater so they had this little show. So yeah, she voice isn't gonna be as perfect. But she was amazing still.
He was really good! I hope he went out and pursued a career in singing!
I don't know if I could bare seeing my stage I preformed on for years get replaced all those memories would get to me but you did great in this number

I LOVE this show. My theatre troupe and I saw it at State and the other girls and I could NOT stop squealing, it was so adorable. Some of us literally cried a little bit.

This was beautiful, Kristina. I'm a high school drama teacher, and seeing you perform and say goodbye to your theatre reminds me a little bit of why I do my job every day.

I can't even imagine them tearing down my old theater. The elementary school I went to used the high school's theater for its shows, and then I went to that high school having already fallen in love with and made so many memories in that theater. Then four more years were added to those, and three shows I helped with as an alumni.
A theater is a home away from home where everyone is loved and at their best and most wonderful. A truly special place.

I actually cried watching this. Musicals tend to make me cry, but this song especially. No, your voice especially. Amazing.

My high school doesn't have a performing arts center, but we had a drama department that loved putting on shows. In order to perform, we had to go across town to another high school, which kind of sucked. But the shows were always a lot of fun.
Both of my sisters and my dad were in a community theatre production of Seussical, so I kind of went squeeeee when I saw the title here. Awesome.
LOL, Seussical was the first musical I was in (I was in the Pit) and 8 years later I can say it was my favorite thing I've done in my life (It's also where I met the majority of the friends I would keep over the next several years)
It's silencing thinking how much people and places change in just as few as 5 years. I just went back to watch the video's from your original performance. You put on a great show back then and an equally wonderful performance at present. It's been such a pleasure watching you grow up, albeit from the distance of my computer screen. I think that 5 years form now life will be even better.
I don't even like thinking of my school's auditorium being renovated in the future! I had theatre class in there almst every single day and expperienced soooo many productions that introduced me to beautiful works of art! I would also hate to see the huge door that had hand-painted posters of the shows down in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's go missing D=
Kristina's voice literally gives me shivers!
One of my friends was in seussical two years ago when they did it. She can still sing it perfectly too!
Wow... watching this made me cry. I remember how sad it was graduating high school and knowing that while it was the last time I'd be on that stage at least I could go back and watch so many students shine on that stage. Theater kept me going in high school... I couldn't even imagine what it would be like going back and being on that stage knowing that the space I created so many memories in would be gone. This is lovely Kristina.
Good luck to those future drama students. May they shine.

I'm about to graduate high school and I know that our theatre will be renovated sometime in the coming years.... I just hope we get an opportunity to have a reunion like this when that does happen. By the way, you are adorable in this song. I've never see Suessical, but now I want to!
Oh my gosh! -3 Seussical was the first musical I was ever in and I miss everyone in the cast so much. I havent seen them in months! This brings back so many happy memories and faces! Thank you =)
Seussical has SUCH huge spot in my heart. It was the first show I ever did - I played Sour Kangaroo - and now I am a Theatre Major. Who woulda thunk it? Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Seussical is such a fun show! I was in it 5 years ago when I was a freshman in high school--I was a who and a cadet. I haven't left the theater since!

I know that feeling of attachment to performance spaces. It's always difficult to leave, and even more difficult to say goodbye forever. But this was really lovely, and performing is the best way to send a theater off. :)
We did this at my school last April. I was only an ensemble member, but seriously, so much fun. My new favorite musical :)

And this made me really miss my old school and it's theatre program. So many good memories :)
I feel like I've never heard your voice to this extent, I'd love to see you sing more musical theater pieces, it really suits you.

I just did this show like three months ago. I was a cat in the hat helper but I love this show. you are very good as Gertrude Kristina, I hope the new students enjoy the new center and never forget the old one. :D

I loved this :D It made me remember my own performance in Seussical. I'm a senior right now and I played Mrs. Mayor when I was a sophomore. Now that I am graduating in 2 weeks I can't help but miss all the amazing things I did in my Drama Department. Thank you for bringing back those memories :)

I have struggled over what to write in this comment. This fills my heart.. I have never been in a musical or in theatre, although I love watching performances and musicals with more love than I can express.. but I have loved many things that it has been IMPOSSIBLE to leave behind. IMPOSSIBLE but somehow inevitable and inescapable,, and we do it, we leave. But then there are moments like this, to relive, to remember, to HONOR. I am so happy for you. Ps your voice and acting is SPECTACULAR. :) :)

I've never seen Seussical and I've never really been interested in doing so. But now I do. This was so amazing Kristina. I've never heard you sing like that. It's so perfect for you. Not that I don't love your usual music but there was something special in this. I guess a high school theatre can do that to people. :)

That was beautiful, Kristina. Thank you for sharing it with us! I performed on my stage for the last time on Thursday. It was an orchestra concert, not a play, but I think the feeling of loss is similar. Just remember the wonderful times and you'll make it through just fine.

That sounded great but your descripton of the video is so sad! I Once I finished highschool and had to say goodbye to my performing arts center it was super sad! Considering that to me and alot of people that place was like our home!

I've never seen Seussical, but now I really want to. You sing so well!! It's really cool that they gave you this opportunity to go back and sing. I love being able to go back and relive something that was such a big part of my life at one time. Last year was my high school's 15th homecoming, so they invited back all the marching band alumni to perform at the game. It was such a good experience to be able to go and immerse myself back into those memories. Sad that they're tearing it down :(

This my last show in high school, and I love that you went back for the tribute, my troupe was a second family, and I miss them.
I stage managed this show whilst assisting lights and sounds, it was crazy but fun.
Even though I wasn't in the cast I still sing the songs in my car :]

I was a Wickersham brother (Sister, really) in this musical. It was easily one of the best things I've ever done. You did a great job, honestly. And I'm sorry to hear about your auditorium. I don't know what I'd do if they tore ours down- even to build a new one.

we did this musical (the junior version) when i was in 8th grade. i got to play mrs. mayor, and one of my best friends played gertrude. this was so cool to see someone else i really like playing this part. you did wonderfully :)
In middle school I was a bird girl in Seussical Jr. Gertrude's was my favorite role, but I wasn't cut out for it. (Though the 3 bird girls were in almost scene... But that was tiring :/) That was a great performance :)

I loved this so much. You are fantastic! It's so great to hear your voice like that, I feel like you've been holding back on us! Your true potential - wow! I'm a bit speechless. I understand your love for theatre... I've been involved in my school's shows such as Annie, Cabaret, Dracula Spectacular, Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. There's really nothing like it.
You guys both sound great! This whole event must've been awesome and bittersweet. It's hard to say goodbye to something you associate so many memories with. I got teary at my last high school theatre performance and I'd probably start balling if they were to tear the auditorium down.

this is so great to watch. i love it. i was very close to being in my school's production of this when i was younger but chickened out. i didn't realize how much i would regret that decision and i only just got involved in my school's drama department during the spring of my junior year. now that i'm graduating and just finished up our spring comedy i'm so sad that i didn't get into it sooner. i sincerely hope that my fear and shyness doesn't hold me back from the theater next year in college!
i can only imagine what thats like, the theatre has been my second home practically half of every year I was in high school.
&& also, I was in chorus for Seussical when I was a freshman, this brings back some awesome memories. :) amazing job

Oh wow, Kristina! This was so awesome. They've been making incredible changes to my old high school auditorium as well to the point where I barely even recognize it any more. It's good they're updating and keeping up with the times, but at the same time, it's sad to see what you're used to go away.

As total Theatre (Musical, regular, and dinner) nerd in High school, I completely understand! I'd be so upset/happy/excited/scared if our Auditorium/Theatre got torn down and replaced! I guess it's good in the end though, because....It gives the younger kids a whole new place where they can find themselves like so many people have. Btw, you sound absolutely great up there :)
Wooh theatre! We're doing Midsummer, and our first shows are on Wednesday! I would be so incredibly devastated if they tore my theatre down. It's unlikely, since our theatre is new, but would be really emotional for me.

My school has a huge drama department so a lot of my friends are involved in local theater and a bunch of my friends where in a local production of this (in fact one of them played Gerturde) so it's cool to know you where in it.

Why would they tear it down?! At my school, we have a much beloved performing arts program that has its own theatre, classrooms and hallways. If it was ever torn down, everyone would be devastated. That must have been a very moving and sad exerience for you.
