The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) was envisaged by the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS, 2009-10) for the betterment of the protection of children from inhuman treatment.
For cases related to children, you may acquaint the DCPU office at Sangtemla ward, Mokokchung ( for residents of Mokokchung). For residents of other districts, you may seek help from your respective DCPU office.
Several other committees come under the DCPU such as:
i) Children Welfare Committee (CWC) - CWC is constituted under section 29 of Juvenile Justice ( Care and
Protection of Children) Act, 2000. The CWC deals with children who needs care and protection & children under conflict with Law.
ii) Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) - JJB is constituted under section-4 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and
Protection of Children) Act 2000 for exercising and discharging the duties conferred or
imposed on such boards in relation to Juvenile in conflict with Law under this Act.
iii) Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) - Children (below 18 years) in conflict with the law are dealt by the SJPU. It presents the Juvenile to the JJB.
