I'm actually kinda pissed that they canceled this. Thank you for posting this, I've been looking for episodes of this show forever. It was one of my favorites growing up, along with roller derby, the chamber, and that one shopping one for some stupid reason. Lol Man these old commercials are crazy nostalgic. Why did I have to grow up???
Ilove the part where I call my mom at the end. She was so excited. We weren't allowed to tell anyone. So we had a viewing party with about 40 friends at a local restaurant/bar and got to be with them as they saw the show.
I am going to assume that since you said that you were not allowed/supposed to tell anybody in advance, (Which is ALWAYS the case when you are on a game show anyway) (I do however recall two instances where the results of an episode became public knowledge before they actually aired.) (The first one was the first million dollar win on "Millionaire" (although that made the news the morning that the episode aired, the second one was Ken Jennings losing on Jeopardy!) that you actually ASKED somebody involved with the production of "The Chair" if calling your mom and telling her how much you had won would be okay before you actually made the call.)
Even several years on, congratulations, Kris! I have a wedding coming up as I write this, and I'd love to win the cost of it on a game show, but I'd probably stick to Wheel of Fortune, haha. Were this show on, I might've survived that silly piñata, but probably not much more.
Wheeloffortunefan999 good point. I don’t think I signed anything saying I couldn’t tell, but that they asked me not to tell. It was all a blur of excitement that day. Still can’t believe it.
Kris was also on Russian Roulette. She became that episode's champion with $2,400, but she dropped out, because she missed the 1st Question in the Final Round.
Yup that’s true! Hated missing that first question! If I’d listened to the full question I wouldn’t have answered the way I did. I answered too quickly! Lesson learned.
Well, here's this. You won $2,400 on Russian Roulette, and you had better luck on this show with winning $224,600. That brings your winnings on both game shows up to $227,000. That's a lot of money.
@@ShopBellaBeachI saw that unfortunate mishap episode. Thankfully you did better on this show. Just curious though, what caused you to misinterpret that question on Russian Roulette ?
Redlining down to $0 with a chance at walking away with over $230,000... and that was none other than Dean Sheffron the week before. He was at $132,200 at the final question, but just couldn't get his heart rate under control; and FYI, he would've missed that final question.
my parents and I watched that particular episode the night it originally aired, (my dad immediately assumed that Dean genuinely did not know the correct answer anyway the INSTANT his money dropped to $0 (his reason for this (obviously correct assumption? He believed that Dean would've at the very LEAST slammed his fist in his lap the moment his money HAD run out, he (meaning my father.) also even went as far as to say that all things considered, he would NOT have been entirely shocked if we had EVEN heard a couple bleeps and now that I think about it, that would NOT have really surprised me either.) (I would've been a LITTLE upset too actually IF I knew that I DEFINITELY was going to win $100k if i was able to keep my heart rate under a certain number of bpm, but was unable to get it down below the allowed number.) (My mom didn't really pay (that much attention to the episode AT ALL that night, (in fact she didn't really care for the format of the show at all) (The heartstoppers (or a few of them, (but a few of them was enough for her not to like the show much AT ALL.) scared the CRAP out of her, (she did think John Mcenroe did a good job hosting though (he seemed to WANT tvhe players to go all the way, unlike that complete idiot they had on the ripoff of this show that aired on FOX.) (I THINK the HOST'S name was Rick Schwartz BUT I do not remember the SHOW'S name.)
But here's the thing, under the rules had he answered and got it wrong, he still would have won his "stabilized" money. Not $132,000....but a lot better than nothing. That was such a flaw in the rules.
@@marcpower4167 He had $35,000 stabilized. The rules also state that if the current amount drops *below* the stabilized amount, then the stabilized money also drops to match it.
@@gameshowguy2000 that's my point, let's say I start to feel like I'm having trouble keeping the heart rate down and had some money stabilized, it might be worth just throwing a question so you can keep that money. rather than risk losing everything. Cut your losses. For instance, in Mike's case I would have intentionally missed the $25,000 question, that way I'd still get $2,800.....not much but a lot better than nothing.
maybe not, but the chair was better execution-wise, (although the ONE thing i did NOT entirely like about it, well ok, it's not that i didn't LIKE this aspect of the show, but i CANNOT deny that it was more than a little confusing.) (and in fact even when i first rediscovered "The Chair" by searching for it (and finding clips of it on HERE.) I was asking myself this question again, (I say again, because i wondered the same thing when BOTH shows premiered/and when i even saw commercials for them BEFORE they started airing.) why was it that you could win up to $250k on "the chair", and the important part of the game was only keeping your HEART RATE under control, But yet "The Chamber" for whatever reason, only offered a grand prize of possibly over ONE HUNDRED thousand dollars for basically trying to push your ENTIRE BODY through complete hell. I am sorry, but there is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for the grand prize to have been ANYWHERE near that low on a show like "The Chamber" for those of you who do NOT know at all how the payout structure worked i will explain, each correct answer got you $1k, no penalty for ONE incorrect answer, but if you ALSO gave a wrong one on the next question (or ran out of time, there was a time limit for each question if i remember correctly. you were done, and you would forfeit half of what you had earned to that point.) (7 levels total, each 1 60 seconds long, and more "hellish" than the previous level.) (as Rick Schwartz himself described it. (If you made it through all of them you got to keep everything that you had earned from and in addition, (this is probabaly what enticed the players the most, if you answered twenty five questions or more correctly, AND completed all 7 levels of the chamber, that meant your money x3 so 25 right $1k =$25k x3= a MINIMUM of $75k which although not a LOT at all, you would still have a hell of a reason to be proud of yourself, as would any family members who may have been in attendance at the taping, even though i'm sure they'd probably have been scared to death while the game was going on, BUT if you made it all the way, and came out just fine, they would be happy, proud of you, and i am sure more than RELIEVED!
@@Wheeloffortunefan999 no hate on the chair though, just confused at how come it is scary. I been in fireworks worst than this and a lot closer with no problems. In France, the show started from January 2003 and ended on May 2005, the only country where the show was a success.
In Russia, "The Chair" was successful too: it is started from September 2002 and ended on August 2004.
