You, Sir, are a genuine artist! Truly beatiful work! 2 little tips from a fellow knife lover... Making a little rounded radius where the blade meets the tang helps to prevent the blade from breaking at the handle. Heating the tang with a gas torch until light blue also helps with this issue. I hope I may one day aquire 1/10th of your skills at the belt grinder. Truly a joy and an honor watching you work. Excellent work with the filming and editing, also. Thank you very much!
Jon Swift. I agree. This takes to much concentration and is to much hard work for the youth of today. Unfortunately they are always being told that knives are bad and therefore knife owners and makers are bad. When it is the person and not the tool that is to blame for using it as a weapon. They should (in my opinion) be taught to be responsble and respectful. Then the knife loses it's danger and becomes once more the tool that countless générations of men have carried and used everyday of their lives. Sorry about the ranting.
He did a lot off-screen, probably the heat-treat as well. Besides, the description says "heat treated high speed steel", although I doubt it was pre-heat treated. It doesn't have to have a hamon to be a tanto. Some commenters need to read up more about Japanese blades.....
hmm, dunno if that is plastic he glued onto the sheath but it doesn't seem sturdy. I'd advise cutting a small opening into the part of the sheath that holds the edge of the blade and to insert a piece of horn in order to protect the sheath (and your hands) from the blade, as it could split the sheath after prolonged use.
That 'plastic' is G10 my friend... Given sufficient thickness it's ballisticly rated... As in used on the underside of armored personnel carriers to shield against IEDs.
Go for it, man. I've been making knives for a few years now and it's a lot of fun. But big heads up with knifemaking. I can almost guarantee that you will fill a 5 gallon bucket with semi-knife shaped chunks of scrap steel before you get a decent knife. So I would start with mild steel from home depot just to get an idea of what it's like before you move onto good expensive steels. Also GET A RESPIRATOR. I cant begin to stress how important it is to buy a GOOD respirator. Like the ones from home depot with the pink filters that looks like a gas mask. All the dust that comes from knifemaking can EASILY give you lung cancer, COPD, or any number of other terrible diseases. So trust me. The $60 respirator is worth an extra 20 years on your life.

Nice advice dude
Great job, gives me an idea for a broken bayonet blade. Your weave on the handle really makes the knife.

That is fantastic. Do you always get your steel already hardened? I never see you heat treat your blades.
Sam Harper I was wondering why he didn’t heat treat it as well.

Perfect 👌🏼 Sadly, the UK is losing this kind of craftsmanship

They're still people out there in sheds building amazing things.
UK has Alec Steele, you guys are good
I was gonna say the same about Alec .
No worries Alec Steele is there.
Is there any reason why the blade is just glued to the handle? Saw that on another tanto knife video as well.
What kind of height scribe is that to find the blade center. I can't find one. Great videos!!
Beautiful !
A loving fan from France.
Hey I just started making knifes and you just blows my mind 🤯 that maby I can make a knife like you

watching his earlier videos he's shown the heat-treat process in some of them, so i assume that he did so, but maybe didnt think he needed to show it.
I think the edge wasnt hardened? Or does it need to be?

Can you do twin mini double edge blades with single sheath to carry them both. Like concealed carry thingy
What kind of metal do you use & the thickness?
Very nice. How much for that knife?
That is a fantastic job. You need to teach us how to tie those knots in the leather.
Also how to freehand that grind you did on the blade...it was perfect.
exelente un gran trabajo de artesania . FELICITACIONES
