Simon, wow great shots. Many years ago I was one of the workers who cut down all the trees over what is now Quarry Lake in order to facilitate the coal strip mine that later created the lake. We also cleared the area just west of there where the Nordic Ski area is now. At the time there was a great protest from the environmentalists whining about how we were denuding and destroying the valley of its natural beauty. Personally, I think it’s all much better now than it was in the early 1970’s - from your photos it seems that you might agree. Great work, Cheers Jeff Straw
It's a beautiful spot and definitely very much loved by locals in the summer. I couldn't comment on what it used to look like though! Appreciate you watching.
Beautiful video specially because I live in Calgary and I love shooting in Canmore. When I look at your shots of those reflections are certainly beautiful but something everybody gets so I try to tilt my camera down and just shoot the reflections and even just throw a rock in the water to create some ripples And get all these neat rippled abstract colors. Thanks for sharing.Regards Gerry
We visited Canmore last month on our way back to the airport from Banff. I think we got more photos from Canmore than any other single “attraction” we visited. Thanks for doing this video.
@@simoncennals Canmore is great for photography. At the end of our vacation, only Lake Minnewanka offered as many different shots. Not saying the other highlight spots didn’t deliver the goods, but Canmore really surprised us at just how many great vantage points from where we could frame up a shot. We were like kids in a candy store and thankfully, there weren’t a thousand others competing for pictures and selfies and getting in our shots.
I really love Canmore as it still has some of it's small town charm that's mostly been lost in Banff itself. And thanks for the tip on free parking at Quarry Lake. I went to the official Canmore Townsite and noticed it does say paid parking during Park Hours...which they conveniently do not list lol. The other option is you can take ROAM which I believe is FREE within Canmore and include Quarry Lake.
I love Canmore. Particularly when the leaves change. Maybe no one visits the lake because parking is so expensive. But, I probably spent as much or more to park to ride the shuttle to Maroon Bells recently. Enjoy the Fall colors.
No one visits Quarry Lake? Haha, it is suuuuper popular spot, especially in summer, half of Calgary comes and have BBQ out there. It is probably the most popular spot outside the downtown.
@@simoncennalsyes, I get it we are talking photography. You were talking parking too… actually crowds were the reason to establish paid parking at the Quarry lake. It is just the nature of the beast, hopefully this place will never been as popular as Moraine Lake. Most photographers coming to the Rockies for a few days and they are on a tight schedules to photograph dozens other spots in Banff and further. And at the Quarry Lake we just walk our dogs 😀
I would like to appreciate your effort on showcasing the beauty of Rocky mountain. I had purchased your ebook before I went to Banff this year and that helped me a lot on finding out all the spots. One question, when should I plan for Banff if want to capture the autumn color? I can spend a week may be next year but not sure which week should be best for watching the autumn color? Thank you 🙂
Hey! So glad it helped you out! Fall is a tough one in the Rockies as it's so short. Normally around mid to the end of September is the best time to aim for. Could be a week earlier if it's been a little colder.
We stayed in Canmore 7 years ago being from down under (Adelaide Hills) the scenery was stunning. Just wondering what lenses you were using? I use a canon EOS R and canon lenses but would like to better understand landscapes. Thnx for the video posts. Cheers Geoff from down under
It's hard to describe just how increasingly busy Canmore is these days & with the rampant unchecked development, especially the sickening spread of AirBNBs (see the new development on 10th - long term locals kicked out by Basecamp) - still I agree that Quarry Lake (while usually heaving with people & weddings in the summer) is a nice if not undiscovered spot

shot at 6:15 is absolutely stunning
I'm 3 hours out. Definitely going to have to make the road trip to get some spectacular photos. Thanks for sharing such a gem of a lake! ❤📸👌🏻
You might get lucky and get some open water still. I know the snow and cold has been slow to arrive this year!
Nice Video And WoW Shots …Adam Gibbs and Gavin aka Fototripper Were there a few years back and took some Awesome Shots …

Great photos and yes I have been out a few times and it is a great spot.
I forget how good a spot it is and am always surprised when I visit!
Your video is absolutely mesmerizing! The landscapes are captured so beautifully. Thanks for sharing these amazing views! 👍91
this is my go to spot for early morning sunrise captures. you also get to see a ton of wildlife early morning,
enjoyable video simon 👌🏻 nice to see the lake in fall
Thanks for watching

Great video buddy! The cost of parking is insane.
Thanks man, yeah it is a bit of a shame. Not sure it stops the crowds as people park elsewhere but it makes money!
I like this video. Canmore a find

The fall colours are amazing in Canmore and I did find a sneaky place to park for sunrise and sunset without parking in the end!

@@Rockyframes we're talking photography here. Compared to the likes of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake it's peaceful and quiet at sunrise and sunset.

Hey Geoff, I mainly use a Canon 16 to 35 F4 L lens and the Canon 70 to 200 F4 L lens. Both very sharp lenses!
@@simoncennals thnx for that. I’ve just invested in an RF 14-35 F4 to add to my portfolio of lenses. Cheers
Did you catch the Northern lIght 2 days ago? 10-11-2024. I came on this same spot.. We stay in ABnB 4 mins away
Unfortunately I was away at work in Northern BC! Did you get some shots at the lake?
Sheer Paradise

Not a fan of air BNB! Has ruined s small mountain towns in the past. Quarry lake at sunrise is still pretty peaceful!
I went there yesterday morning for a sunrise photo but unfortunately, it was cloudy and most trees around the lake have no leaves anymore😂
Oh no! Fall is such a short window!
