When an engine is running, the piston actually floats and just brushes against the cylinder wall. It is the piston rings that contact the wall to make a gas seal. On the downward, intake stroke the oil keeps the friction low. Generally, a shorter skirt design is for short stroke engines and vs versa.
@@beachboardfan9544 There's no negatives to doing this, but some race series regulate you to the standard length conrods. See this link for an explanation of the benefits of a 6-inch rod - ruclips.net/video/Te7_TaiYzR4/видео.html

hello, what happens if I install a 1.772" compression piston to replace a 1.72" compression piston? THanks
Show us how your guys make your connecting rods?
Also hoping for that 2nd part of the crankshaft video series :D
Yes, sure. We have that on the plan, just gotta make it happen!
@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos yes, thank you!
Does having a shorter skirt on the piston cause more cylinder wear due to the piston likelihood to have increased 'sideway' play.

This is a terrific and informative video but I take issue with this man calling those digital calipers a Vernier scale.
I get pulled up on the same error too. Once you use a vernier caliper everything is a vernier caliper be it dial or digital.
These are for the 1275cc engine.
Hey guys here's a question for yuh, what's happening there are no 74mm pistons available?
For longevity we recommend a maximum of 73.5mm
Why so much crown height? Thought shorter crown height and subsequently lighter was better?
and that is exactly why MED have made the 6" conrod and corresponding pistons!
What are the negatives to a longer conrod and shorter crown? Physics after all, cant imagine you get something for nothing.
@@beachboardfan9544 I think the only negative is cost, hopefully MED will come along to answer your question.
Tony can you elaborate?

mixing mm and inches! hmmmm what year are we in ? 2019 please explain why I am confused
Welcome to the UK, where we fill up our cars in litres and measure economy in MPG.
Advantages of 6" rods?
Hi Cedric, see - ruclips.net/video/Te7_TaiYzR4/видео.html

@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos of couse. i kneow I had see this explination earlier.
Thank you, makes sense.
