I just saw Todd in concert a few months ago, and at age 76 he still jumps around like that, shreds on guitar, and sounds great! I love 'The Seven Rays'; it's very proggy and I love the instrumentals.
Roger Powell on Keyboards. The guy made the best synth album ever with Air Pocket. For the longest time I felt that it Todd that got me started on my own forays in music, but in retrospect it was Roger’s harmonic sensibilities.
The rack you see behind him is Roger’s dual Moog System 55 rig. It was bigger than Keith Emerson’s big Moog modular. Touring with old Moogs was always a challenge. Roger had Bob Moog build him a custom 2-Manual controller which was stolen and Roger found it for sale on EBay 20 years later. Roger bought it back and donated it to the Bob Moog museum. Sadly, both racks of system 55s were destroyed in a warehouse fire. 😔
Cool to see a younger generation of people find Todd and appreciate it do you want to hear the quintessential version check out another live I believe the double my king was for recording . One mic was feeding the PA system . The other Mike was going to a multitrack recorder. Cool to see you sincerely grooving on this music. I can tell you're a real music lover in a cool guy keyboardist Rodger Powell is a prodigy of Robert Moog. His programming and his plane are sublime , he also created garageband for Apple. And lots of other cool things
Next Todd: Please do his 1st Utopia album by the same name, and start with "Utopia" = (the entire side 1) and "The Ikon" on side 2. Actually the entire album deserves your insightful review.
Double mic: Creates a Right and Left "stereo" sound effect at the venue. Todd used stereo effects to move sounds from side to side. For example, during a live performance of his song Zen Archer, he created the sound of an arrow being shot across the stage as Todd dodged it. You can also hear it on the album with headphones. I know you're going to enjoy the album Utopia! With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)
Check out Utopia Theme; amazing live track, great fusion/prog jam, love it
I believe that is Luther Vandross on the backing vocals.
It sure is!
Listened to Utopia back in the day and could never get enough. Todd later on engineered his own album. Look it up.☺️ love Todd
Checked out Utopia in club in Spring, 1978, supporting the album “Oops! Wrong Planet”. It was a great show,
Roger Powell on keyboards
Two mics, a technique used to cancel background noise (drums, band).
Roger Powell is the keuboard player who played with Bowie
Roger Powell played keyboards for Utopia.
Todd Rundgren is a god! Check out the Wizard a True Star LP.
The Utopia Theme is a really good tune from their 1st. Utopia did not get the recognition they deserve.
Todd is unsurpassed.
A better "live" version of The Seven Rays is on the "Another Live" lp where Roger Powell (keyboards) turns in a fiery synth solo. Much better than this England tour version.
