    Dick Dufour's name appears on the AIDS quilt (I believe he is the same man who appears here alongside his brother). He passed away on November 3rd 1989, exactly 7 months after this was broadcast. May he rest in peace and serve as a reminder of the devastating effects this epidemic had - and still continues to have - on our community throughout the United States and the world.

      My brother is an alcoholic. I love my brother, but I hate alcohol and alcohol abuse. Disagreeing with the actions of another person is not hatred. This is a fallen world, which is full of fallen people. We need to acknowledge that fact. You cannot solve a problem until you admit that the problem exists. You choose to be redeemed to God or you choose continue to exist in a fallen state. The choice is yours. Sexuality means nothing in the grander scope of things.

    They usually evaded the topic but if it was unavoidable they'd say "THAT way" instead.
    The world was more widespread when I was young: no internet, no cell phones, no cable TV. To say gays "choose" or "learn" to be gay from their environment seems outlandish to me. What environment do Christians imagine gays were exposed to, growing up in myriad communities around the world where no one even knows a gay person?
    I know the environment most gays grew up in: Bible-believing, church-attending, loving homes headed by a mom and dad who sent their kids to Christian schools and colleges.

      @@thebitchisback8910 you know your own business (and he knows his) but the typical experience and observation of others suggests it’s very likely he’s also gay but gets to feel superior to you by hating “your sin”. Living in the closet (deliberately choosing to either stay in the closet after becoming aware one is in it or going into it for the acceptance of those who object that one is not) is the manufacturing of a false self consistent with covert narcissism (and narcissists do live vicariously as well as thrive on the disappointments/pain of others and resent their happiness/success- but they don’t have an internal stable core self identity so what they perceive as another’s well-being is a composite of the standard claimed by others around them). I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know what I’m talking about with respect to you or your family just please for your own sake watch your back especially with regard to shared resources/property/inheritance.
      I was 46 when I got the surprise of my life and I’m not nearly as alone as I would have thought from such a thing I’d have considered unheard-of. I mean I should’ve known because the signs were there from the time I was outed at 15 and my father cried in bed for three days and never treated me the same. He didn’t cry because I told him it was true, he cried because I didn’t lie to him when he asked me. He would’ve loved a secret like that to drag me around by, but I didn’t realize any of that at the time despite that big 3-D color sign.
      If I had been in your position hearing me say this I absolutely would’ve told you “you don’t know what you’re talking about my brother is not showing me any sign”.... so I don’t expect you to react any differently but it would have been a benefit to me to have this information to keep in mind and hopefully it will be to you as well. • @Zarathustran
      @Zarathustran 3 года назад

      Yes that’s exactly what he was describing. 😐 I think there’s strong indication of who is born and who has acquired a compensatory maladaptation at the expense of a developmental halt in the largely differing average experiences of transsexuals and gays. I didn’t begin realizing I definitely was gay and trying to pray it away until I was about 12 years old and from what I’ve heard and observed the onset of puberty is when all people first become aware of our own sexuality in a real and practical way. I do remember when I was 5 or younger (because of where we lived) wondering why I liked checking out the teenage boy across the street and realizing I better not ask though and should just wonder instead.
      Transsexuals most frequently becoming aware of feeling their plumbing doesn’t match their gender much younger I believe are acting out the evidence of traumatic neglect or even abuse of which they’ve blocked memories. Parents like theirs (also like mine) don’t consider their own behavior may be causative or problematic of anything because they see anything they can point out in the child as a problem the CHILD IS CAUSING for them… So if there are surgeons who don’t know any better willing to make a buck giving patients what they present wanting rather than risking losing patients by counseling them to consider transgenderism is a chromosomal impossibility except in cases of extreme hermaphroditism (the exception whose rarity proves the rule) and that detransitioning wouldn’t exist if everybody was happy after having their junk filleted and incinerated with the surgical biohazard waste before agreeing to unconscionably mutilate them THEN OF COURSE PARENTS WITH NO CONSCIENCE SEE “FIXING” THE CHILD AS THE RESOLUTION.
      Gender is one of the first things we learn about ourselves so this indicates very early trauma and if there’s anything I know about uncertainty it’s that when that’s all we have there’s nothing we want more than certainty, and the disordered (gender identity disorder being acquired in the same developmental era as other personality/identity disorders) among us dissociate to the degree of manufacturing their own delusion of certainty or false identity.
      The guest who pointed out that natural selection would have selected against homosexuality used a logical fallacy to prove a valid point. It’s epigenetically selected for in utero (by a stress hormone mediated immune response) but at the time that was not part of science’s understanding of genetics. Either way we don’t reproduce direct carbon copies of ourselves, otherwise our children would be our twins (or hybrids I guess with their other parent). What this means is that all embryos have the potential to be born gay. The average is every fourth male to inhabit any particular maternal uterus, and this includes miscarriages the vast majority of which amazingly do go unnoticed believe it or not. I think it’s fucked up as hell that there’s no data on girls (and twins/multiples) if for no other reason than it would be useful to confirm the mechanism and verify or explain deviations from the every fourth male pattern. I don’t think there’s any reason to expect it would be different even if there is a hormonally different mechanism for selection because we can already see that the outcome isn’t different but it should be studied to confirm it’s arrived at via the same route.

    I had two boys as a single mother, both were allowed to have Barbies, their best friends were usually girls for a long time, they had dolls, wore pink when they wanted to, bought and played with make-up, grew their hair long, and neither is Gay. Both are married and one is a dad, a wonderful Dad.
    What they were missing in this old clip is that sexuality is in the BRAIN. Your genitals don't make you who you are. That is why in the 1950s, when kids were born with both sets of genitals, the parents and the doctors chose one, they often chose WRONG and got rid of the wrong parts. Genitals don't determine sexuality or which gender your brain is. People can be born with the wrong body. Just like they can be born with four legs, or an extra finger or all kinds of things, so let them figure out who they are. Thing is, they KNOW who they are from the time they can show and verbalize it.

    It's not a stretch to believe that men who act effeminate have some chemical/chromosomal difference that makes them gay. I do not recall ever "choosing" to be straight. The chemical makeup of the brain controls everything. People get in serious accidents and become violent, their personality changes, etc - Add a chemical like alcohol and it changes your perception - people you are not usually attracted to become attractive - not meant to be funny or make fun, but, for some, fat women become attractive. With all the intricacies of the brain, it is completely possible that an abnormality of the production of certain chemicals or a chromosome abnormality determine your sexual preference. Regardless of the cause, it still isn't a choice and people shouldn't be hated, shunned, etc. because of it.
    Also, when I say abnormality, I do not mean it's a mental illness, or there is something wrong with these people in that sense, I simply mean that it is a condition that doesn't happen as frequently as the alternative. People with blue green eyes don't happen as often, but it doesn't mean they're defective, lol.

      This show was groundbreaking. Shows like Donahue were the first to discuss being gay, and the first to humanize gay people and try to understand them.

    When I was younger I frowned upon homosexuals. Then one day I totally realized that if two adult men find true love in each others rectums it's none of my business, and has absolutely nothing to do with me at all.

    The host of this show seems to be the only one who is down to earth tbh.
