    What a good boy, he stays so nice while she trims him. My Bichon won't sit still, she is always trying to run away. Thanks for the helpful video.

      Dash is such a good boy💗 when he was a baby he would move around a lot and was very naughty, lol 😆
      But I kept training him to the grooming process and now he is a dream to groom😍😍😍

    Amazing dog and soooo well behaved. I absolutely love his coat. My 15 month bichon will never stay still for a few seconds even on a grooming table with leads that I have at home. However, she has been going to professional groomers every 2 weeks since aged 4 months. I hope as she ages she will eventually stay still for me 🤞

      Hi Mel, my bichon is now 2.5 years old, and I am now able to comb her through thoroughly. She still wriggles like a snake, though, but with patience, I get the job done.😂😂. She still sees her professional groomers every 2 weeks.

    I’m usually nervous to watch grooming videos because it gives me stress and panic attack triggers after I see how rough those dogs are being handled and choked with a rope. Thank you for not using that terrible choking leash on this baby.

      Thank you 🙏🏻 this is my Bichon Dash and he is a very good boy to groom💕 as I groomer I will pop a grooming loop around the dogs neck area as most dog’s are used of a collar and lead so they feel comfortable with it and it helps them feel secure and calm. And prevent the pooch from jumping off the table🌸

    I have a question on the ears specifically. Should I be blending the outside of the ears into the head ? They are so thick and tend to be a different texture, so they often still stand out. I feel they do need blending, but I don't want to hack up her ears. I reference your video most often as I navigate learning at home. It's helped so much!

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials  Год назад +1

      Hi Stephanie, ears are the hardest part to navigate on a Bichon. I normally begin to blend the ears into the head and then move the ears forward with my hand or get the dog’s attention (so the ears naturally move forward) and see how the ears are sitting, then if I need to take more off I will comb out the hair and blend the ears again and repeat until I am happy(which I am never satisfied with the ears cause they are so hard , lol 😆) it’s better to leave more hair on the ears and the cheeks to keep the head balanced and the head to stay in a round shape. Let me know how you go with it✂️✂️✂️

    Suggest feeding the Bichon spring water only not tap. It keeps the staining down to a bare minimum.

    I'm wondering is it true that some Bichons may not have the thickness to create this? Also, how much growth is necessary?

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials  2 года назад +1

      Yes, as your Bichon gets older their coat can become thin. If their coat is thin, you would scissor the coat a little shorter so it stands up✂️

    Love your videos! Could I ask a piece of advice to maintain the hair on the the top of the head straight and not falling on two sides (I dry the hair using my hand drier a slicker, maybe I should change the conditioner or else)?

    How do I blend the head into the crest behind the ears thank you Mel

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials  2 года назад

      I try to blend small amount at a time, as well as combing the coat all the time. The head should be a circle from the side , so be careful not to take the coat to short behind the ears, I hope this helped:)

    thank you please can you explain how to sissor the crest im confused how far back it should go

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your question. Depending on the length of the trim, generally before the wither, if you are clipping the body short you can take the crest shorter. If you are scissoring a show dog, I like to bring it back to the wither, so the crest ends inline with the hair on the back of the front leg. If you have a Bichon with a long back you can leave more crest to help shorten the length of back. I hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you need more help✂️✂️✂️

I don’t normally touch or trim my girls tails however one of my little ladies has a beautiful extra long thick tail whilst her sister has a whispy uneven short tail! Hello Melanie,
    I really enjoy your bichon grooming videos.
    I have a Bichon Frise’ that’s five years old. I have trouble getting his hair to stand up in the top of his head.
    It seems to be straighter on the top of his head.
    The hair just collapses on top.
    Do you have any strategies for making the hair stand up on top?

      hi Gaynell, My apologies for not seeing your question sooner. You could try trimming small amounts off the top the head every week and it may thicken up.
