The singer has said it was not meant to be taken as literal contemplation of suicide. It's supposed to be about that moment in your life where you have reached make-or-break. All of the bad choices you have made in the past have came back to you and now you are "under the gun", so to speak, to either pull it all back together or lose everything.
Shinedown lead singer Brent Smith explains it...45 is not about a gun. It's a metaphor for the world. I see it as a declaration that life is sometimes overwhelming. He also shared a story behind it, and it's very moving. It's part of a concert that's on RUclips, possibly in Kansas City.... And I seem to remember the video was about ten minutes long. It's worth the search. Great reaction, and I'm glad you've been introduced to Shinedown
aww you did the video version lol if you did the live from kansas city version, he tells the story of this song and contrary to belief, this song isnt about a gun
life in general getting to him, and added to relationship issues,.... staring down the barrel of a 45= suicide is looking good at this point, being considered, yet that path is not taken.
It's not about suicide or even a gun. Check out more shinedown. Monsters, Sound of madness, Breaking Inside, I'll follow you. They have so many great songs.
I’d like to start off with congrats on the growth. If you’re looking for another Shinedown song a personal favorite is burning bright or if you want something different Asking Alexandria-alone in a room the acoustic version.
I came across Shinedown a few years ago and MAN do I love their sound! You've already done of my favorites of theirs, but here's a few more: "I'll Follow You", "Diamond Eyes" and my absolute fav of theirs, "I Dare You". (But seriously, I haven't heard a bad song by them, so just listen to anything of theirs!)
Nah you got it. YOU GOT IT. You were able to feel the music and make it into something that you could understand. And you were spot on. That's exactly the feeling I got as well.
Beyond the Sun isn't their song. The band was from Jacksonville Florida and they got signed and the same night the lead singer died in a car accident. So Brent finished the song because it wasn't finished. The issue was who ever was behind the album never gave credit to the other band. Brent made it right with the family. Yes Call Me definitely could have been a single but so many songs were singles off of SOM.
The reason why he writes about swimming through the ashes of another life his His mom and his father were very religious and he wasn't and his father took him out and took it out on him with abusive behavior They want him to go one way he chose to go another way then got addicted to drugs and then didn't know how to break away from them and then that's why he was staring down the barrel of a 45 I think what changed his life with on his daughter was born because his music completely changed and he turned his life around
First his father wasn't abusive to him. He is a good & so is his mother. They were hard on him but not abusive. His son's birth saved his life he got off drugs for him. He never had a daughter.
Have you thought of the possibility that the line "starring down the barrel of a 45" could be a metaphor for being forced to be something that you're not.
When I say this isn’t as Shinedown, this is because of how early this band was evolving - Brent smith and Barry Kerch are the only original members - nowadays, you can tell it was Shinedown whereas you might not have been able to as easily
Brent writes in metaphors a lot and it’s really interesting to google his meanings of the songs .
Really I never knew that thats interesting
I love this song. Another one by them that I love is Sound of Madness.
And devour and simple man and enemies and bully and cut the cord and...well pretty much anything Brent smith sings.
Listen to the album Amayrills
Yes!!! 🙌🏻
The crow and the butterfly ...❤

I actually have a tattoo of “Staring down the barrel of a .45” but the S is Shinedown’s signature S 👌🏻🤘🏻
life in general getting to him, and added to relationship issues,.... staring down the barrel of a 45= suicide is looking good at this point, being considered, yet that path is not taken.
Well said 👍

GLORY TO THE BRAVE- HAMMERFALL
Letting go of his old self to move on and grow as a man and saying goodbye. Growing as a person and artist.
The son is in the box sealed up tight, meant for the son, no one else.

Doc you should listen to Shinedown - call me that's a damn good song
Monsters & Devil must do the videos. My favorite Diamond Eyes live. These are harder rock. 💥All there songs are deep & videos follow the story.
