Ron Riley was our link to the rock and roll world. Late at night we could pick it up in north Arkansas and some nights it would fade in and out and we would have to "fine tune" the radio to hear his show. He was our idol I guess and so funny and always had something crazy going on, little contests and such, One time he told about some guys linking rubber bands together for several blocks in downtown Chicago (trying to break a record?) We would be glued to the radio! Those were the days!
9 days prior to this was my 15th Birthday.
I probably heard this show as WLS was my mainstay.
Sweet sweet memories
These unscoped radio airchecks are windows to a happy time when DJs were real personalities. Love the ads too, including the one with Casey Stengel.
Still one of the best sources of rock with great dj's in the 60's. Love the old commercials!
50 years ago today.Sitting with my sister and brother in law in their car at the 41 drive in in Hammond Indiana that evening 50 years ago listening to WLS and hearing Art Roberts say The Cryan Shames were beginning their 4th straight week at no.1 before the movie started was a memory that I never forgot. Fast forward 49 years with the help of the reproduction of the WLS Silver Dollar Survey on the computer I was able to place that exact day. A chilling memory both sad and beautiful.
_Man_...."Ballad Of You And Me And Pooneil", "Heroes And Villains", "Cold Sweat"....this is an _outstanding_ musical time capsule.
The Neil Diamond Coke commercial at 9:30 is amazing! If that had been extended to a single, it would have been a hit.
A cool DJ. The 50's And 60's were the best years for Disc Jockey. Wolfman Jack. And a lot DJs who kept us entertain..We had good DJ in Cincinnati. Ron Riley had that quick TALK. Chicago is a fun city.. I have met some nice People from the Windy City.I got some tickets for the Cubs and Reds game at River Front Stadium my friend and I we were sitting in left field there Cubbie fans sitting back of us. It was hot that day the sun was burning my friend. Hey let's go and stand in the shade. Kerry Wood was Pitching for the Cubs in his Rookie year. He had a sinking pitch a good fast ball. I turn around there was a young Cub fan behind me. He was sitting behind us. I said are you following us, he said the year Harry Carey. The Ball Parks all around the Country at the 7 inning stretch. In honoring Harry Carey they put Harry on the Jumbo Strom singing take me out to the ballgame the 7 inning stretch. The they put Harry on the screen alright everybody a 1 A 2 and 3 take me out ballgame got People to really sing it loud for Harry Holy Cow. That kid that follow us I said sing I got him good root root for the Cubbies if they win it a shame for it 123 strikes your out. Haray go Cubbies. The Cubs Won Cubbie Won Cubbie won HOLY COW the Cubs won the 2016 World Series I been Saying through the years I'm as loyal are to the Cubs they need World Champion Team for the north side fans it was great to See the Cubs win the World Series. The People here in Cincinnati was rooting for the Cubs come on guys win the thing you owe it to your great fans. After 108 years the Cub did it here and this one for Harry.
August of 1967 was when my family got its first dog, and I would have been starting fifth grade in a couple of weeks. WLS or WCFL would have been on in the background that entire summer. I've probably even heard everything on this recording before, but I just don't remember. Those were the great days of radio in Chicagoland and around the country. Radio nowadays pales in comparison.
muted by RUclips? I'm sure it was great. Ron Riley sound was sublime

There is still no sound.
Muted by RUclips. God knows who could profit from a 55-year-old radio program segment?
No sound.
WHY is there NO sound??
Copyright police. Most likely a record company who owns the rights to a song had it struck down.
Why can’t I hear it?
Copyright violation. License holders made RUclips remove the audio
