Darius Rucker launches his country career with a visit to radio and interview with Bill West. He performs an acoustic song written for his daughter.
they say you can't do it, and look what happens...you blow them away. Prolly one of the most talented musicians that can just switch genres and make his music sound better and better
In all seriousness, this record is going to be huge. HUGE. I think the country world will open Mr. Rucker with open arms.
I heard this in the car a couple weeks ago and started bawling my eyes out. I have two daughters.. a 4 year old princess (and complete Mama's girl) and a newborn baby girl (who is a total Daddy's girl).... Time has flown by these last 4 years as I've watched my oldest daughter grow... And I remind my husband every day to enjoy the times we have with them because "it won't be like this for long."
his voice is out of this world. it radiates love.
I have a four month old daughter, and this song brings back memories and thought of the future. Actually makes my eyes water. GREAT song.
Heard this song on the radio when he being interviewed... This is the ONLY place I can find it!! Love it!
Country is a good genre for him. He always tells great stories and the best place to do so in music, I think is country.
That guy is an honest -down to earth-kinda guy, isnt he ?
And country,I think is just the right field of profession for him...
I really hope.......it will be like this FOR LONG !!
Thanks for posting!
Glen Mitchell is one of the best guitar players around!!! Darius ain't the only one rockin this song ya know..... Glen rocks too!!!!
I was channel surfing when I came upon Darius' video in which I just caught the hook of the song. I continued to listen to the song, and simply couldn't contain myself thinking about my son from the very day he was born: he's now 30! More importantly is how very true the lyrics are to this song for any caring parent. I was so moved I sent it to my brother-in-law who walked his oldest daughter down the isle. Great work, and keep it coming Dude!
Unreal. You'll never see this guy lip syncing. So nice to see a real, genuine act. Incredible voice.
Man this song is amazing. Its truly understandable for anyone to tear up over this song
I relate to this song perfectly right now... I have a 4 yr old daughter and an 18 month old daughter... really hits home.
I have always loved Darius Rucker, I think he is very talented and when I first heard he would be singing country music I was very excited. I hope to hear many more great songs from him
What a sweet voice-a true talent. Welcoming him to country music with open arms, for sure!
this is the second best song he has ever written...behind let her cry, but this is right there with it.
It's things like this, that
A: Make me proud to be a country fan.
And
B: makes me even more want to be a radio personality/DJ
i've never heard of him before but if this is usually what he does..man he is great!! i love this song soo much, its one of the song that touches your heart you know?
I just love his music when it is acoustic. he has such an incredible voice, and as someone who loves to sing, his voice is perfect for me to sing along with.
plus, he just seems like such a chill dude. I'd love to split a few beers with this guy
I couldn’t agree more! Do you have any videos of you singing? I’d love to hear you!
Everytime this song comes on, someone is chopping onions right next to me?! Just never fails, all the time! Hey! I have a bridge to Maui I want to sell you. If you bought the whole "onion incident" deal. That's a bargain bonus there! 😂🤣
absolutely superb. very nice song, great artist, wish I lived in the US so I could see him tour
Darius Rucker has too much talent, one of the best in country music!

Awesome song!
this song is bad ass!!!!!!
Just in case anyone doesn't know, the guitar player is Glen Mitchel. I'd also like to find the tabs, too. But just the one's Glen plays in this version.
i love the guitar its simple but awsome
HOOTIE ROCKS!!! (then, now...always)
just plain ole damn good!!!!!!
awesome!!!! I love his music, very talented!!!
this song gets to me every time.
Darius Rucker didn't go country, he was born to play country, and just dabbed a little in Rock and Roll
very nice thing going on there folks!
how about that - I'm a faulkner too. I agree - real surprise..it's a solid album.
this is sweet.
great song!!
How good is the guy on guitar!!!
Perfect!
This song is this generation's "Cats in the Cradle".
man, i gotta go to one of his concerts
i LOVE this song
You know, I don't understand why people can't just enjoy and not judge others. The fact that she is 17 has no difference in whether or not she is a mother who understands that time flies when you are watching your kids grow. If she were 30 would her eyes be more capable of seeing the difference? It is an amazing song, and coming from a 20 year old, happily married mother of two; my babies are getting so big. Call it cliche if you wish, but it became a "cliche" because it was true to so many...
Great song
just awesome darius you're damn good
Is it just me or does anyone else think this live version is much better than the album version?
Yes, beautiful song. Just happened to wonder after checking back to 14 text blocks on this site: Why no one said anything appreciative about the guitar player as well.(?)
@terriesales well, i think that rap and hip hop is a much better place to tell a story
Great singer Darius and great guitar player too.im trying to learn the words to this song im a medokra guitar player.
I love love love this man...I have a freakin tattoo to prove it, OMG. Love to you my D
you know my favorite music artist are the ones who sound 99.9% the same live than on CD the other.1% is the other instruments used
god ur voice is amazing. :}
i can relate to this one except it dont a week or 2 my daughter keep on crying for me for 8 months after she started school
Song starts at 1:50

Anthony, great Hendrix stuff. Yes, the tabs to this one. Tried to find them myself. Requested from a few guitar teachers. No one could figure it out. Its Glen Mitchel playing the guitar. On other videos with Darius, people seem to klick Glen to the side, wrongfullly. Let me know if you ever figure out. the tabs, let me know.
Glen is a friend of mine, as is his girlfriend SaraBeth Swagerty. They are 2 thirds of a band called Royal South now. Check them out.

the guitarist looks like a young version of the old guy in the movie "Up"
Best

1 cover ur mouth wit hand
2 make a wish into it
3 close ur hand[make it into a fist]
4 hold ur hand[the fist] to ur heart for 5 sec
5 send diz to 3 more videos
6 tomorrow best day of ur life
i really hated to see him go country but this is still a pretty good song :0)
2010
Where is he
People expand your vocabulary, then you will not have a need to curse.
Dads know
I'm posting a how to on the intro and I'll reply with it under video responses here.
I was thinking about buying it cuz I luv his voice but I heard the CD is bad from people at work. Are all the songs as corny as this one? I dont really like this song but luv some of the old Hootie stuff. I'm not a country fan- just Garth and Travis.
Obvious, at least - in the key of E. Right?
Can any parent listen to this with dry eyes?
brb, i need to go hold my daughter..
The fact that someone is a mother at 17 had nothing to do with you and you still put in your two cents, explain to me why my comment is any different. Being a mother at 17 does not make her stupid; it means that she made a bad choice. The fact that she takes care of her child is more than many 30 year olds can say. The age of a person does not determine their capability. FYI, I was married before my children, but I don't see how that is any of your business.
You are just a kid, you dont have some "all knowing knowledge" now that you have popped one out. Thats cool you like the song, but I think it is corny and cliche country music. He is awsome, but his old stuff is way better
You know, I like how you revive an old conversation that didnt involve you and throw in your two cents. The fact she is 17 and has a kid means she is stupid. Kids that age shouldnt be having sex anyway. How bout you- was it a shotgun wedding? She hated on me cuz she popped one out- my point was Darius Rucker is awesome but this song is so unoriginal and cheesey. A million country songs just like it. If anyone else sang it, it would be unlistenable
