I have been wear contacts for 20 years. I have always worn them to the pool and beach. Never had a issue. I just always make sure I close my eyes. I would pack extra pair just incase they pop out while you are out and about.

When I go swimming I always wear my contacts, plus goggles for when I go under water. When I surface, I just take them off and make sure I close my eyes if someone splashes.
I do use one day contacts which I throw away after swimming. That way any bacteria aren't in your eye for long and it doesn't matter that there's bacteria or dirt in you eyes for a couple of hours. Have done it for years and my eyes are healthy as ever.
I just wear goggles to prevent the contacts from swimming off 😝

I'm super blind and I ALWAYS wear contacts when swimming! I use monthly contacts, and as long as I clean them after being in the water (and also, not open my eyes under the surface), it's absolutely fine. I've been doing this for about 12 years or however long I've had contacts for 😂 Don't stress, you'll be fine 😘

You're just dodging bullets, there are various parasites/bacteria/microorganisms that can cause severe pain and blindness in hours. Contacts act as sponges and trap them on your cornea long enough for them to adhere and permanently damage your eye.

Some tips for dealing with ulcers in case you haven't tried them. Dissolve salt in some warm water and use it to bathe your mouth a few times a day, helps to heal it faster. And when you need some instant numbing, Bonjela helps. It stings like hell when you put it on, but will numb the area for long enough to eat a meal. The "Sugar cookie" is basically honeycomb. Home made honeycomb is nice :)

I had an old roommate with bad mouth ulcers. She tried milk of magnesia (it’s probably called something else in the UK) but it’s originally for constipation but instead of ingesting it you swish it in your mouth and hold it in there for a bit and then spit it out. She said it really helped her.

    • @lojaned

Idk who told you that you can't wear contacts in the water, but they're crazy, unless contacts in the UK are completely different. I've worn contacts for over 20 years now, have never even lost one in the water, but I always carry extras when I travel anyway

  • @tulipsandlavender

I would recommend getting some daily disposable contact lenses. This way you can change them frequently and without too much fuss. Also not too much of a problem in case you lose them. I wouldn't risk wearing other contacts in sea or pool water. Another alternative would be to have some fairly cheap sunglasses with your prescription made. They might look nicer with a beach outfit than normal glasses :) Both of these options take some preparation time though (going to the opticians and waiting for your order to arrive etc.) so I would take care of it sooner rather than later. xx

  • @claritey
    @claritey 2 года назад +4

Regarding mouth ulcers. I used to get them frequently until I figured out what was causing them. In like 98% of toothpaste brands available one of the main ingredients is Sodium Laurel Sulfate, it's a sudsing agent but it's also an irritant to mucous membranes like the inside of your mouth. Once I switched to a brand that didn't contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate (I like Sensodyne Pronamel) the ulcers cleared right up. I haven't had one in over 20 years.
Also about the contacts. I used to be an ophthalmic tech. You can go swimming with them but if you are worried about losing one I suggest switching to daily disposable contacts. They cost the same as longer lasting contacts but are much better for your eye health and if you lose one no big deal, just put in a new one. You can wear the same ones for a couple days in a row if you need to, "daily" isn't a hard and fast rule. Just make sure to soak them in contact solution at night to clean them.

I wear boche and lamb purevision HD lenses and you wear them for 30 days without taking them out. You can swim, shower and sleep in them. I’ve worn them for swimming and were fine. They are super thin though so you can’t handle them too much as they will just tear so you have to be committed to sleep in them. I’ve been wearing them for 18 years and never had any problems but I know sleeping in contacts scares some people.

Lawd have mercy. I love you Jazz. I wear glasses and contacts. I wear my contacts the most, wearing my glasses usually at night or if I'm lounging. However, wearing your contacts in the water isn't bad. If you want to while you swim wear goggles. I wear mine taking a shower, washing my face, swimming in any body of water, etc. Just take an extra pair or 2 with you. It won't be that bad. When I swim with my contacts in and need to open my eyes to see where I'm going I open them by squinting ever so slightly. It is just enough to see where I am, know which way to go and close them back until I need to do it again. It's really not that bad. Don't believe try it in the bath tub. 😁 Love you and hope you all have fun on holiday

Regarding glasses; I always have a spare pair of glasses to wear swimming or rollercoasters etc in case I loose them. Or wear them but connect them to some string (like the little old ladies) but only connect one end then connect the other to the costumes. So if they do fall off you won’t lose them.
Regarding ulcers; I suffer from them severely, even go to hospital every 3 months. I suggest something called “ambesol liquid” it’s basically an anaesthetic you can buy over the counter. I use it to put on my ulcers when I’m eating so it’s not painful or if I had meetings etc so I could talk without pain. Otherwise, rinse mouth with salt water for 2 minutes twice a day and do it everyday and then for 3 days after to ensure the infection is completely gone.
    Hope they help x

Aren't there lots of inventions to attach to your glasses and around the back of your head and/or possibly around your ears?
Like those things that basically turn your glasses into like a necklace if they fall off your face?
You can get them online or at your glasses shop. Like a strap, for your glasses, but something online maybe someone's invented straps to your ears I guessing?

For the last 5 years I wear night lenses! It's freaking awesome! You'll have to check if they can go with your prescription. But its so awesome to wear them at night when you sleep and see clearly during the day without lenses. They are hard lenses and you'll have to get used to that but otherwise no issues. It will hopefully help you on your holiday and maybe afterwards too. Hope this helped! ♥️♥️

I've always worn my contacts in water (I don't usually get my face wet if I can help it), I just clean them well afterwards. I've tried overnight contacts in the past, they are fine but you will need eye drops as they dry out.

Wear daily lenses and throw them away after you've finished in the water (ie don't keep them in for the remainder of the day). Due to my high prescription this was what the optician advised me to do.

I used to have chronic canker sores until I started using sulfate free toothpaste. Now I almost NEVER have that problem!

I’ve worn contacts for the last like 15 years and I’ve never heard of not wearing them in the water. I have the daily lenses so I put in a new pair every day. That may be an option, to put in a new pair after being in the water, but def not necessary! (I don’t ever open my eyes under water though!!)

I’m always chomping down on the inside of my mouth, I put bicarbonate of soda on them, it stings but dries them out super quick

Could try wearing normal glasses and attaching the back together and tighten them to your head so you don't lose them if that makes sense x

You can buy straps for your glasses/sunglasses and they’re fantastic. It’s what I always use and the only time I lost a pair of glasses was when I neglected to bring it because it was a spontaneous beach adventure. The one I have is made of wetsuit material so when it gets wet it clings tighter and holds better! Plus it dries super fast when you’re done.

My mom wore her contacts to a beach when she was a teen, got sand under her lens, and hasn't been able to see properly since. I know that's like worst case scenario but still, I wouldn't suggest wearing any type of contacts to the beach. Your best bet is probably just goggles or get a glasses chain and secure it to your bathing suit strap or something.

Love Grey's Anatomy! Also love your channel! I wear my contacts when going in the water every time. I'm so blind I can't put on mascara on without them, so they are very necessary! I would rather lose a pair of contacts to the water than my glasses.

I’ve worn overnight lenses for years. Also lenses where you wear them for 5-6 days and then let your eyes rest one day. Also worn while swimming. Just don’t open your eyes😂

I wear my contacts in water all the time! Don't worry about it! I'm super blind without glasses or contacts, like can't see from 6 inches in front of my face. It's okay to wear your contacts just bring extras!

I just wear my contacts when swimming. Non prescription goggles if I'm going under water. I wear month longs and I just take an extra pair just in case.
I usually time it out so that I can throw them away at the end of the vacation. So I wear my glasses for the time leading up to the vacation (same amount of days I'll be gone on vacation)

You could get a chain to connect to your glasses. People use them on reading glasses.
