    The most insane thing about the Beastie boys is that all of the samples they used to create the loops were done on tape, as electronic samplers had yet to be invented. What that means is that for each sample a physical piece of reel-to-reel or cassette tape were cut and spliced together to create the loops (repeated sounds).
    And the Beastie boys book they describe a time where they had a huge tape loop strewn across an entire apartment.

    • @Gekokujo76
      @Gekokujo76 2 года назад +9

      It was during the Wild West of hip hop where the technology existed to do such things, and the laws werent there to punish you. NONE of these samples were cleared and it wasnt long before Vanilla Ice had to PLAY DUMB about his Queen sample. Most people (white, black, old, young, etc) think Vanilla was stupid and didnt know it was the sample for Queens. Real heads knew what was happening. You couldnt make an album like Beastie Boys Pauls Boutigue today. Hell, you couldnt make it five years after they made it! Shake Your Rump AH!

Do any song from this album and it’s 🔥. Try Hey Ladies, Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun, Egg Man, High Plains Drifter, etc. A solid party album that I partied to plenty back in the day. The album "Paul's Boutique" was one of the best albums of the late 80's sampling era of Hip Hop, before the laws changed to make it prohibitively expensive to have lots of samples on an album. "Paul's Boutique" shut a lot of ill informed naysayers up when it came out, but a lot of deep cut Hip Hop fans (like myself) who knew the Beastie boys music from BEFORE their previous and huge selling album from 1987, ("Licence To ILL"), know how good they were (and are) Respect due.🙏

    I loved the whole journey of the Beastie Boys career. I'm jealous that you guys get to hear this stuff for the first time- you looked like you were having fun! If you like the vibe of this, "Hey Ladies" is a really fun single.

    Before this song/album came out there was a rumor that Mike D had died, that's why he starts his verse by saying "I'm Mike D and 'm back from the dead"

    My dad bought me my first scratcher . I wasn't a professional but I was pretty good at the record player. I did this song and I also a few years before I got that I got my first break dance cardboard. Oh yup yup I could break it down.

    So much sampling on this and every song from the "Paul's Boutique" record. I read something well over 10 years ago that said that with modern copyright (at that time, which didn't exist in 87/88 when this record was made) that this record would have cost $10 mil or more to produce.

    Some other Beastie Boys songs that would make great reacts include Paul Revere (lyrics version), Slow & Low, Sure Shot, 3 MC’s & 1 DJ, Pass The Mic, Get It Together, Alive.

    That "weird sound' (the deep bass) is a synthesizer. I'm not 100% sure, but something about the "quack" of the sound makes me suspect that it's a Roland TB-303. A classic bass synthesizer, very popular in techno.
    Electronic music uses synthesizers far far more than guitars.

    Man, this record. Overlooked at the time, people just wanted more "Fight For Your Right." Then it broke the world once people clued in to what it was.
