The Singer of Shanghai - Broughton High School, Edinburgh 31 January 2023

As part of the programme of events marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2023, Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre in partnership with Edinburgh Interfaith Association and students at Broughton High School, produced a rehearsed reading of The Singer of Shanghai. The play was written by Professor Kevin Ostoyich of Valparaiso University, Indiana and is based on interviews with living survivors of the hundreds of Jewish refugees who fled the Nazis in the 1930's and, at a time when Europe closed its borders, were given sanctuary by the people of Shanghai.
