that was such a pleasure to hear you sing, you can hit those high notes so easily and with clarity. you match the sentiment and ability of both 10cc and will to power's version. i would like to hear you stand up and belt the whole song out start to finish. keep up the good work!

Thanks so much! I'm really happy that you liked this. I was concerned when I first recorded a cover of this song considering how processed the original is. Those vocals! But I'm glad I went ahead and did it anyhow. thanks again.
This is a fantastic tutorial. One of the most thorough that I have ever seen. Love your vocals as well. Really nailed the vibe on that. Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely agree with "WidgetMJL". This was the best tutorial I've seen to date. I'm a regularly gigging solo acoustic musician, and I'm constantly coming to RUclips for inspiration when I want to add a song to my repertoire. Thank-you so much for posting this. I will be checking out your other videos. Great Job!!!
Damn, dude. I've watched a lot of guitar tutorials and hardly any of them can sing (which is irrelevant to the tutorial), but you've got some pipes. Great vocals. Oh, and thanks for the tutorial.
Hey Elliot, I stumbled upon this lesson and I'm glad that I did...I've been playing guitar for years but I never tried to play this song. I love it, it reminds me of when I was a kid, took me to happy place. Thank you so much
Thanks a lot for taking the time to show us your version of this beautiful song, Elliott .. one of my favorites .. and I really like your version.. I’m now a Subscriber… Tom W.
I would have to agree. Instead of the G# minor, I did that E with G# in the bass. At the time, I liked it better than G# minor but lately I don't. Thank you for watching and commenting.
A C6 G#m7 G#(+b13) C#m7 A C6 G#m7 G#(+b13) C#m7 A B7... it's because The C6 is an Am with a C bass (pinkie) stuck on. The G#b13 is not as difficult as it sounds and is a nice movable suspense chord. Barred 4th fret (4th) and then (from low E string upwards): E string (4th fret) A (6th) use your pinkie D (4th) G (5th) B (5th) E (4th) I know it sounds difficult but it isn't. Have a go and see what you think.
was flipping around looking for different fingering opinions on this song - thanks for putting this out there. Good stuff indeed. I was surprised to hear what a great voice you have; was not expecting that at all. Rock on!
Hey WallFish, I'm so glad you liked my humble video on this great song. Hope you have lots of luck with your own playing of it. And thanks for the kind comment.
Awesome tutorial! Really enjoyed the in depth explanation of the chord variations. Great voice, too. You really do this song justice, which is hard given how processed the original 10 cc version is.
You say the song's not really a guitar based song so how come you make it sound as if that's exactly what it is , that was absolute class mate , now saved in my favourites look forward to more of your excellent lessons , please do us all a favour and keep up the great work.
My apologies but I’ve only just come across you! Great tutorial as well as clear description of chords ‘up the neck’ and how they’re constructed. Thank you, I’ve now subscribed!
Thanks so much. I'm sorry as well because I really don't do much music these days now that I have kids. I'm focusing on 3d tutorials instead. Thanks again though.
Another great video! In a swiftly moving world, it's great that you take the time to do such a full video, rich in commentary, graphics and good humor! Ongoing thanks... from many of us! Brian
Great tutorial. I'm in my sixties and grew up with this music. I recently started playing guitar. You have excellent guitar skills and voicing. I have learned a lot from your lesson. Many thanks
Thanks so much for posting. This was the easiest tutorial to follow. I wish other people posting such videos would take a leaf out of your book to make things so easy to follow and learn!
Thanks. Loving your lessons. Found your site looking for a Can’t Fight The Feeling Lesson and enjoying loads of the stuff you have on there. Thanks again. 🎸
My approach to learn chord changes and hone my chord-melody skills is to try to figure out a tune on my own, before looking up other guitarists' interpretations and techniques posted online. Yours was very helpful, especially your open strings voicings on the intro chords. I play the Maj6 and min6 on the A chords, since they fit the melodic tones, as well as adding the #5 on the G#7 to add a jazzy feel, among a few other nuances. Thanks for sharing your voice and ears!
Thanks so much. There are so many tutorials for so many songs out there. Some good, some bad, and some fit me better that others. Had I not seen this, I probably would have never tried this song. But now I can entertain some friends with it and SURPRISE them. Gracias
Absolutely...in retrospect I should have referred to it that way instead of the A/B in bass...but the way I had explained the chord being based off an A major with B in the bass seemed to lend itself more to calling it A/B. But I probably should have mentioned the B11. Thanks a lot for your attention to detail.
Hello Mr.Zerobio ..... Bravissimo e Complimenti ...Lezione ...Semplice e Perfetta ...Bellissimi "Chords" con molto ..."Harmony" Thanks!!! greetings to Italy .Salvatore (Alassio)
I'd have to watch the video again to see if I actually said the song was in "A", I hope I didn't because the dominant key here is E. There is, of course, a G# in the E inversion I play in the verse and possibly I did a full-on G# bar chord as well, not sure. Your G (which does not HAVE to be in a song, even if it was in A), does show up in the chorus but likely I did Gmaj7. I don't recall a G at the end, did I do that? Let me check it out again.
Thanks Elliot. I have just watched the best tutorial I ever saw on youtube. I have no range to sing this, but I'll try anyway. If I get it, I'll make a video and post back to you. Thanks for the lesson. Paul
The great thing about playing guitar is we can all play it the way we like and feel it right? So many diffferent styles and ways to play a guitar whether it's techincally right or not. Great tutorial. you make a great teacher my buddy Elliot, you sure know your music and guitar. You're a maestro,I wish I could play like you! Maybe in a 100 years if I study hard enough. ;) I learned from this. Go get em my bro, show us Earthlings how it's done! and Neptunian in my case. lol ;) Great singing!
There is a video on youtube that documents how they made the song; pretty amazing given the technology of the time. Don't think it has ever been duplicated, but with digital technology, probably don't have to. Thanks again!

There is a mistake in that chord. I think I mention it in the description but can't remember. Also, many ppl prefer a G#m7 instead of that E I played with the G# in the bass. Thanks!
One of the best lessons I've seen on here, if not the best! Just bought an Eastwood electric acoustic, now if I could just sing as good as you life would be perfect and I'd probably get my girlfriend back with this little diddy!

Thank you! Yes, you are probably right, I don't need some of that info about the chords. It might be useful to some, possibly boring to others. But thanks, I'm glad you agree and appreciate it for what it is. As for singing...thanks also for your compliment, I really appreciate that. Wish I could say I had a coach but nope. Just sing all the time in lots of different environments. Oh I was a street musician for years, that helped. Good luck and come back again.
Yo, nice job. I'm always trying to figure out guitar parts for songs that don't really have a guitar part. Having taught myself by ear its not always easy. But I think your rendition here sounds a little better than what I had come up with. And of course, the key to this tune is good vocals, which you also have. Thanks for taking the time to post. Juste a little remark, i can't accord with G7#, but if i put my finguer on G string instead of D string, it sounds very good for me.
@faffytunes Yes, if you happen to be in that kind of situation, it sums it up quite nicely. Beautiful song, one of my favourites from the time period. Thanks for watching.
Sure thing. Yes I do although I recorded it quite a while ago. Please have a look in my "Covers" playlist, you should find it there. Hope you like it. thanks
I know what you mean. I had the same experience with my cover of "I guess that's why they call it the blues". It's tough sometimes to do a decent cover on guitar for a piano song (also with "mandy" by manilow). but we do what we can right? thank you very much for your comment, much appreciated.
Great video & advise. I think on one video I saw of them, one guitar/lead singer is playing a d7 in first position instead of a minor Amin, but it is possible the other guitar player is playing an Amin and with a D7 on other top, it basically sounds like an Amin 6. I have seen them, and it looks like they play different voicing's. In my opinion the G#7 transition at the begingig sounds better if played on the 7th fret kind of like the way you play a D7 again on first position on the first fret.
One of the best tutorial i ever seen:D, could you do another 10cc song? Dreadlock holiday would be nice since its a cool song but there isn't one good tab or lesson available... Rock on
Outstanding lesson. Thank you. A couple remarks. Where you do an E, try a (bar) G#m. It's easy to get from there to G#7, and it sounds okay. I've been tinkering with different forms of E too, like the C shape with the pinkie on 7th fret of A string. Your chord diagram for G#7 is off - but I think most peeps will figure that out. To get adept at the A/B bass to (open)(bar)B, I just worked at the two finger swap in one position, then worked on shift/swap at the same time.
zerobio!!! wonderful tutorial!!! as i watched it i started to play along the entire song easily. Years searching these chords!! thanks a lot!! What about the year of the cat?
Steely Dan is probably my favourite band, close be hi Ind Alan Parsons. Sadly I have never covered a steely Dan song, very hard to do in my opinion. But I do know that song.
the vamp is pretty close, but missing a diminished chord (flat 9) at the end of the intro leading into the first chord. with much of what he says he's basically talking about standard voice leading technique. minimal movement between the notes of chords. not physical movement, but tonal movement.
Great arrangement. Great voice. Great lesson. Awesome graphics. Thanks!
Cool! Thanks very much.

The A Major reminds me of that Steely Dan song any Major Dude . Have you ever done that song ? I think that it would be a good one for you.
Thanks. Let me know when you post a video of this with singing and playing. I'm sure we'd all benefit from that.
Yes that would sound good, perhaps even better than the E major with G# in the bass. Thanks for the suggestion.
nice job dude
