I mean the movie itself wasn’t the greatest but the concept is wicked. Usually dragons are in a fantasy setting, so they usually fight armies of knights, magic, or even other dragons or monsters. It’s not often you see them face off against machine guns and missiles and stuff like that.
As much as I like this film, I think the initial fight against the dragons would’ve made for an even cooler movie. Come on, we all want to see a dragon take on an F-35.
While I do somewhat agree with it, that movie would be repetitive. It would make for an epic prequel, but they would need to show it from Quinn's point of view, and that could take a bit of work. It would turn into Pearl Harbor. (Not referencing the movie, but the actual event) peopke would take to the skies and be wiped out almost immediately. Those airplanes on the ground would be wiped out soon after for food. And people left would just throw whatever they had at the dragons though it would be useless. I understand that Van Zan and his crew learned how to take out dragons. They had to learn though. It probably took many men and many years for him to actually have a method of taking out dragons. Even then it could take the lives of atleast 3 men per dragon killed. All im saying is that it would not be much of a fight. At the beginnibg when a grown Quinn was narrating the destruction from the dragons he said they spread like wildfire. I see Quinn as the type to want to kill the dragons, and I imagine he did whatever he could to help within the first ten years. I have a theory that he used to try and kill dragons till he realized how many more lives were lost that way so he turned to survival. He kept those around him alive by staying hidden, and only leaving the security of their own castle to get necessities
That went way off track really fast. To sum up while the first fight back from this movie would be very interesting it would not take up much time. The movie would then need to show how the human race survived and coped. From this movie it's obvious that it was seemingly hopeless so people decided only to do what was needed to carry on their species

Certainly there are similarities to some scenes, particularly the giant eye looking at someone. Of course Ghidorah would have eaten this dragon for breakfast.

2:47 and onward is way too reminiscent of what people in the elevators and the lobby of WTC 1 experienced during 9/11 immediately after the first plane hit. It's absolutely nuts that this film only came out 9 months after 9/11, and scenes like this were not modified for sensitivity. It's one of my favorite movies from childhood, but I'm never going to feel the same way watching this movie now that I can see these parallels in this scene as well as many others. The script was written before 9/11, so all of the parallels are most likely coincidences, but it's still scary.

"Dragon" is a very nondescript term as Dragon is a word that has been used to refer to hundreds of unique mythical beasts across the world. From the noble serpentine mammalian of China to the Lion headed everything bodied Tarrasque Dragon and Wyvern are arbitrary terms. The truth is that what counts as a "Dragon" is not based on limb number but is based on whatever the hell the creator says. If Monster Hunter can call the Deviljho a Wyvern then Reign Of Fire can call its beasts Dragons. I chose to draw the line at Fire Breathing vs Venom personally but that's just me.
@@theredlindworm732 Since dragons don't actually exist and there's absolutely no evidence that they ever did you can call a dragon whatever you want. The rules of fiction are different.
thats exactly the point i'm trying to make. There is absolutely no strict definition as to what a Dragon is and thus if the author wants to call there two legged two two-winged beasts Dragons than thats alright.

I hate to spoil it I like the movie. But fire needs oxygen. So one would assume the dragons do. But they destroy all the plants that produce it. Which also means the ppl still alive don't have it.
Trees and other land-based plants only produce around 30% of Earth’s oxygen, with the rest being produced by algae in the ocean. Also, with most land-based life eradicated, global oxygen consumption would be much lower and this would likely offset any fall in production.
This movie was really underrated

I agree with the OP. There are so many movies out there who play after the big war where all the great battles are already over.
This movie came out in 2002. The F-35 didn't have it's first flight until 2006.

God I love the atmosphere of this movie. Nowadays it would have tons of jokes and terrible CGI effects.
That blast of fire when they ran for the elevator was pretty bad. But I agree, these days it would be much worse.

Wait how did the mom die ? Was she crushed by the dragon?
I wonder why the dragon didn't eat when Quinn instead it's spat him in the eyes
Well, considering he had just woken up after being asleep for several thousand years, I would think he was still feeling a little groggy.
It didn’t eat Quinn because these dragons don’t feed directly on their prey. They feed on ashes left behind after burning their target.
I never understood how his mum was killed. Does anyone actually know?
Ravenpawfan 161 guessing it inadvertently killed her with its claws scaling up the shaft. She was leaning on the side of the elevator, and it wouldn’t take much reach for her to have been accidentally impaled
Another possibility is that the cage was partially crushed by the dragon's passage (it looked that way), and she was crushed or impaled by it.
She must of got impaled by the claws
You can see claw marks on her face at the very end. I imagine she got hit when it reached up and crushed the elevator.
