This is a prequel to Alien. before Alien existed, this is where it was supposed to have all started.

That birthing scene will forever be one of the most traumatic moments for me and daym Noomi Rapace played the f out of the scene masterfully

I feel that sentiment!! One of the greatest sci fi horror stories ever in my eyes. The most scary and messed up origin of life story EVER, and this movie has SO MUCH SHOCK VALUE as well as being very rewatchable.
(Love how it feels so different from alien/aliens but so connected)

If they would have done a better job depicting or showing us the different factions (military vs scientific vs religious) of The Engineers, I think this would have worked better. First time I saw this in the theater, I struggled with the "Why did they create life on Earth only to turn and try and kill us all" idea. But I'm slow like that. Haha. I just didn't think about how us Humans have different ideologies, methods and ideas, why shouldn't an alien race? I still enjoy the movie, but I think it falls short on showcasing motivation. Both human and alien at times
    :)

Agreeing with both of you. Scott, I can only assume, tried to portray the cosmic horror trope with how humanity is just a failed biology project to the Engineers (or at least those stationed on LV-223), but (ironically?) failed to execute it well enough.

great reaction! if you’re a fan of giger’s xenomorph aesthetic you should definitely check out species (1995). it’s not directly related to the alien universe but he designed the creature in that film as well.

Me and my wife saw this theatrically and left with 100 questions but the one that has been bugging us for years is, where is the ladder? There is a scene where Michael Fassbender is on a ladder activating a hologram and 20 seconds later it’s gone. Where the hell did that ladder go?😂

The Alien vs Predator films are not canon to either film series and they’re apart of their own timeline.

I knew it!! (Well, I suspected it, at least.) I knew you would post this on _my_ actual birthday, haha! Thanks for the present, Ryan! I would have watched it and written a comment sooner but had to water my garden first, ha.
Your reaction was top notch, Ryan. Recognizing both the good and less well-made elements of the film. I agree it lacks in some areas like the a clear(er?) story and character motivation, but having seen it in cinema back then, with all those amazing visuals and creature designs, _Prometheus_ will always be a special treat for me. The character of David alone is so fascinating, especially with Fassbender's marvelous performance about his unclear (a)morality or apparent imitation of T.E. Lawrence. And Noomi Rapace likewise makes dr. Shaw an interesting character.
Tbh, _Prometheus_ reminds me a little of _Alien3_ , which just like I mentioned also left me dissatisfied at first, but then learning about its unclear production, made me understand (if not appreciate) some things more. Like how originally it wasn't even supposed connected to the franchise and then slowly coming back to it. Oddly enough, some of the deleted scenes actually make the film more directly connected to other _Alien_ films; for example, after the exposure to that black goo, Fifield actually becomes more xenomorph-like, you can watch it here ( ruclips.net/video/lRp2c_vvy4Y/видео.htmlsi=V71ZnxaRxcTQzkKt ). And if you squint and rationalize some of it, you can try to infer some character actions to be more, eh, sensible, maybe: like, the idea of Vickers' character deliberately choosing lousy scientists to accompany the mission explains unprofessional behavior of both Fifield and Millburn. But it ain't explicitly said in the film, so it is up to the viewer to fill in the blanks.
Anyway, highlights! Best jumpscare: eh, maybe the Trilobite's (the thing Shaw removes from her body) tentacle hitting the door? Best line: too many to count again, but I burst out laughing when you said, "Rip out your eyeball!" so casually, haha. Also, you looked sooo disgusted during the surgery scene (Those 2090s painkillers must be something!), similar to how I remembered it in the cinema. And just regarding the symbolism of the (First) Engineer, he was indeed sacrificing himself to instill life on the then young planet Earth, invoking how the mythical character Prometheus stole fire from Olympus to uplift humanity.
Finally, like you said, _Alien: Covenant_ is next so you will get answers to _some_ of your questions, but I might add: be careful for what you wish for, hehe. Sorry for the wall of text and again thank you for such a great reaction!

Firstly, Happy Birthday! Hope you are having a great day! Fassbender did an incredible job in this! But this movie did look amazing!! The graphics were great! Ohh interesting, I didnt realise it wasn't originally connected!! I will have to check out the deleted scenes when I get a chance!! I love the idea of sub standard scientists being chosen by Vickers!!! Totally tracks with the story line! The surgery scene was very intense haha, great scene!! Next up Covenant! Let's see how it goes haha!! Thanks for taking the time for this great comment!

If I remember correctly there somehow their all related the Wayland's I don't know all the details, but this is supposed to be the beginning of all of the movies. I wish you were watching other version you'd get the delated scene, or the director's cut they call it, and they show a lot more details to what happen to everyone before the humans found this place.
