Great video and content, learning a lot watching, it’s difficult from the bank, just got waders for this fall so hoping that gives a smaller advantage.
I think American river salmon have such a short run they decide to turn dark on thier own rather than turn dark when they are worn down. Seen several dark fish that are still thick and meat is still firm and orange/pink. Seen dark worn down ones as well. Fresher fish can be dark in American without being gross yet.
July-mid September is the time to try for the chromers in the american. Even if they have a little bit of color they're still fine for the grill. I hate it when people by nimbus keep the snagged spawning females just for eggs. If you can't eat the fish, let it reproduce. Under the hazel bridge was a great spot for blue fox and flying c spinners until they closed the whole basin down, wished they could've just closed the snagger's corner and areas immediately at the dam. The deep slots are harder to floss/snag and lures are the way to go(which also helps avoid the exhausted fish whom are not interested. The smaller steelhead strains can often be caught like a trout with worms, salmon eggs or spinners. Those big eel river fish never give a crap what I throw at them. Again,in shallow riffles people are flossing them.
