Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the family/estate of Bob Ross who've made these episodes available to us for free. I can't imagine a more fitting tribute to the legacy of a man who really did just want to teach the whole world to be able to paint and express themselves. Bob Ross is in a class of incredibly special and unique people PBS gave to the world (along with Fred Rogers and Levar Burton) in an almost mythical time, the likes of which the world may never get again (certainly not in our lifetimes).
I'm pleased to see so many positive comments here about Bob Ross. I was a Bob Ross Certified Instructor for 20 years, and I taught thousands of people to paint with his technique. Bob Ross gave a wonderful gift to the world by encouraging people to do something they never thought they could do. As an instructor, it was gratifying to see so many of my students thrilled with their paintings. There are few people in the world who could motivate others the way that Bob Ross did. RIP, Bob.
I boght a Quest 2 a few months ago. I downloaded ''Painting VR'', so i can paint just like Bob does in every episode. I didn't know what to do. Then i remembered about him and now every day after work i turn on my VR and start painting or at least, try to finish my first one. I always painted some stuff on PC, but using my hands is something very different.
I am a painter too, but I started only 10 months ago. I tried doing this painting and the path looks like a ladder, going straight up. Do you happen to have any tips as to how I could flatten it a little? Please let me know. Any help you can give me would be immensely appreciated. Enjoyed watching Bill Alexander in the late 70's, 80's, mesmorized by the beauty created in 30 minutes, now for the first time , seeing Bob Ross's, ' A walk in the woods' ! What a treat! The fact that I still watch his episodes in 2024, is a testament to his charisma while capturing the beauty that can be found in nature and within our hearts!
That’s what I thought too, until I met one guy. He hates Bob Ross, he’s probably just saying that but he truly seems to hate him sometimes. He just says he’s “overrated” and I can’t seem to convince him that bobs a good person
Mouse Arts I think that highlights an issue with his feelings of himself. Often in my darkest hours I tended to resent the truly good people of the world. When I was bitter and wasting my days with my multiple bad habits I would find myself projecting my insecurities, my fears, my pain etc. onto those who were in reality simply better, more responsible people. I know many others have this habit too. Thankfully I no longer have this resentment even when my depression comes and goes. Next time he says something like that, ask him if everything is ok
I have always loved Watching his shows. He taught and painted with love and passion of Christ. He was humble in his ways and of the beauty from within. Great in his way.
It's times like these that I'm truly thankful for RUclips, and the timeless privilege of this generation and all generations to follow, that nothing has to be lost to time, so long as it remains on the internet. I could never say this. 30 seconds is about all I can take. People with such extremely low key speaking and so calm of a personality are masking something and odds are, his afro was hiding a few things too
Bill Alexander loved to say that Bob never gave him credit for teaching him this painting method, but here we see proof positive that allegation is not true at all...5:19 into the very first episode, he clearly gives Bill full credit & acknowledgement...Bill must not have watched the show...I think I'm gonna get my paints back out & start with this episode & start working through the whole series...just see how far I can get...
"You can do it, I know you can" "Let your heart be your guide" "and the time you sit around worrying about it and trying to plan out a painting, you could've completed a painting, let it happen" ... Yes, I cried and I don't know how else to express my thankfulness
Mister Ross, I hope you are still painting those beautiful pictures in the afterlife. In the meantime, I'm right now suffering of a strong depression / anxiety. I want you to know that you help me every night to calm down and find some sleep. So you see, you are still bringing joy to this broken world. God bless your beautiful soul.
@mandragoramia, you wrote such a beautiful message. Walking right beside you, Bob is a wonderful calming person. Hope this is finding you feeling better ( I also have suffered from mental illness ) Thinking of you
"The next 13 weeks....and 11 years". Thank God it stuck around and people gravitated towards Bob. No matter how bad your day, I don't think you could watch a half hour program and come out feeling sad or mad like you could if you watched the joy of painting.
What I always admired about Bob Ross, is, that he truly wanted to teach and help people how to paint 🎨 and wasn't all stuck up like some people could be.He also taught with kindness.
Retiring from a one career, I watched Bill Alexander and then Bob Ross for a year or so and decided to "try it". What a surprise. Bob is 100% correct. "Anyone can paint". Added to that, "We dont make mistakes. We have 'Happy Accidents'". Using these techniques I began to actually sell my work and today I am a professional artist, thanks entirely to Bill Alexander and Bob Ross.
David Stanley he sounds like a really awesome guy, really relaxing and nice. I learned about him from a friend who said her mom made her and her sister watch Bob Ross to make them calm down so I looked him up and here I am!
David Stanley - That is so true in what you said. I can draw almost anything on paper with a pincel, but paintings like he does, it's a bit different and a little harder. But I realized that the more I paint, the better I became. So I am a little better than before.
@@CaptainDrewBlood Well, the first time he used the phrase on his show at least. There are thousands of happy little trees and happy little bushes etc in his something like 400 episodes.
This painting will forever mean something to me. I was 6 years old and it came on the day after my dads funeral. I was home from school due to grief and also a horrible sickness. We only got three channels. One was public television. It’s been 38 years and I still vividly remember this episode.
I watched Joy for decades on PBS; today (2-17-22) was the first time I ever saw this very first episode, on RUclips. Back to the very basics... It makes me really want to attempt painting, tho' I've spent my entire life with no artistic ability. Frustrating, when I've always had an artistic soul. I work with color and designs in quilting. It's satisfying, but it's not a Walk in the Woods! 😺
I have ADHD and I used to tell myself that I can never sit through long videos. Bob Ross was different. Thank you to my mother for putting me on this show
I absolutely love how this series progresses - not only in sound and video quality (you can even hear voices and cars!) but also in his demeanor. Sometimes he looks offscreen like he’a reading something; he doesn’t stutter, but he hesitates and acts professionally. His technique with the brush is even robotic and not as refined as it is later on. You can hear sometimes his emotions get through that rigid wall that is his first time broadcasting himself. It really is beautiful how he turned from this awkward man to the quirky, graceful man we got to see. Rest in peace, Bob Ross, and thank you for everything you ever did for us.
i think he was looking offscreen because he thought the other camera was the one recording him at that time, but other than that you’re very correct. also i’d like to add the camerawork really improved-they didn’t show him picking the colors when it’s very important for beginners to know their colors. he was a great man afterall.
He had a reference painting for every episode. He painted 3 paintings for every episode. The reference, the one on the show and I believe one to donate to PBS
@@DinoUncle15 So, he painted 3 paintings per episode, 13 episodes per season for 31 seasons. By quarantine math, that's 1,209 paintings. You have just given me a new appreciation of this wonderful man's hard work and generosity.

So freaking true. I love to listening to episodes while I float off to sleep. But I always seem to watch the whole episode instead of picking one and laying the phone down. Its captivating as hell!!
That background noise, hahahahaha poor Bob and that beard and glasses! Never knew it was like this in the beginning... you can hear he's nervous, he really grew so much and built a empire
The definition of kindness and just simple humanity is bob ross and Fred rogers. Somewhere they are both together creating the most even toned relaxing conversation ever heard. Rest in peace you amazing human beings.
You know, the funny thing is that there are people out there who make fun of people like Fred Rogers and Bob Ross. But really, we could use more people like them in the world right now...
When my sister and I were fighting, my father used to put Bob Ross on the TV. We were mesmerized by his paintings and calmed down by his voice 😊 Great memories
Ok. It may sound stupid, but the episode made me tear up. Here is an excellent teacher for you! So much kindness and friendliness! As students we all want to hear that we can do it. As adults we still need this someone who'll tell us it is possible. I heard about Bob Ross many times but avoided his show thinking it was boring. I was so wrong! He can teach you so much more than painting.
I like to think that Bob Ross is like Mister Rogers for adults. In a world where it feels like everything is against you, he makes you feel like you belong and have purpose and that you can do the thing.
This is how my daddy learned to paint and when I was born he painted an entire canvas of mountains and happy little trees with a beautiful lake! He put it right by my crib! Thanks Bob Ross😊💛
Actually im watching this at my first time and i also think there is no better clips to watch before sleeping. it's 1:42 now and im going to sleep. Same opinion high five!
NO BOB! DON'T WRECK THE TREES WITH A TRAIL! ooohhhh... NO BOB! DON"T WRECK THE TRAIL WITH A POND! ooohhhh...NO IT DOSN'T NEED STICKS! ooohhhh...... Yea it needed all that. Thanks Bob.
If painting teaches you nothing else, it will teach you to look at nature with different eyes, it will teach you to see things that had been there all your life that you've never notice. And if it does nothing else but make you enjoy nature its worth a while, so look around, look at what we have, beauty is everywhere, you only have to look to see it. -Bob Ross
Yeah, I was outside today looking at an overcast sky and all the rolling grey clouds and the stark contrast between the light areas and the dark areas. I then imagined how I would paint them. I had never looked at clouds quite like that before.
He painted to show that you can make beautiful things- from anything, including mistakes. Try listening to him, and think of your life as the painting, use the painting as a metaphor for your life, and Bob Ross will blow your mind on so many levels. Nothing has to be a mistake, there’s always something beautiful life has to offer if you just…let it happen and follow your heart. Bob Ross always has me bawling 😭
i actually painted off of one of his paintings, and i was really proud of myself. thank you Bob Ross for teaching us how to paint, and thank you Lord for blessing us with this wonderful man. RIP Bob Ross

Yeah, too bad that guy got jealous of Bobs succes and even went to court to claim this kind of painting as his own. I guess praise isnt enough for some people. Shame tho.
Bill Alexander turned out to be a shameful ass, who was extremely envious of Bob's success, even disowning him, and said that Bob "betrayed" him. Bill went on to claim that he "invented wet-on-wet", despite the fact that it'd been in regular use since about the early-mid 1500s...
@Emanuel Ismerio no, I wanted it to say in the paint. That's why I typed it like that. Thanks for trying to be a grammar Nazi on RUclips land. Tool bag
I remember watching this guy on PBS when I was growing up, the guy is so mellow and calm that it still relaxes me, hard to believe he was a drill sergeant in the air Force for 20 years and was known as "ball buster Bob"
I just did and it's true. He would yell at people all the time because he had to do it. Apparently he enjoyed his time as a member of the Air Force but the yelling was something he was never overly happy to do so the day he decided to leave the US air force he just made that promises to himself and he sticked to it for the rest of his life.

How far did ya get?
I want to see what you’ve done!
I've always thought that Bill got jealous of Bob making this painting technic so iconic and becoming more popular than he ever could
@@airilightmoon5922Ironically, Rembrandt made this technique popular. Not Alexander. 🤔
When Bob got really successful, he stopped giving credit to Alexander.

This is actually what I watch to calm myself down if I’m angry or sad...

That's awesome

Did you paint it? I would've been VHSing each weeks episode so I could pause and try to paint along until next weeks show.
Wow
Wow my dear lady thank you for sharing such an personal moment of your life. God bless you and may your dad be in God's arms forever more...

Kenneth Zheng very wise words my friends
Truer words have never been spoken
i think he was looking offscreen because he thought the other camera was the one recording him at that time, but other than that you’re very correct. also i’d like to add the camerawork really improved-they didn’t show him picking the colors when it’s very important for beginners to know their colors.
he was a great man afterall.

Try listening to him, and think of your life as the painting, use the painting as a metaphor for your life, and Bob Ross will blow your mind on so many levels.

yes, read his wikipedia
I just did and it's true. He would yell at people all the time because he had to do it. Apparently he enjoyed his time as a member of the Air Force but the yelling was something he was never overly happy to do so the day he decided to leave the US air force he just made that promises to himself and he sticked to it for the rest of his life.
