People don’t realise how much influence Slimzee had in grime, he always had the best dubplates and exclusives, he got every tune before anyone else, this was in the days when people were still going music house to get a dub pressed for £35 😂 he was pushing the scene at events like sidewinder, and later Eskimo dance, mixing 8-bar, sub low, and eski tunes with dark garage, before it was “grime” all while he was scaling tower blocks putting up aerials for Rinse FM, and - I remember when DTI raided during a set while I was listening, heard the needle rip across the vinyls and people shouting then it was off for about a week 😮 big up bro wicked set

Big up the Godfather don dada Slimzee aka Slimfast the king maker. If he played or plays your tune you got recognition because of it and he made producers into stars overnight. Slim is one of a few DJs who can hold a mix proper with bear man on the mic! Big up the legends Riko and D Double on point.
I give Slimz props but he was never that good at holding a blend, same with Fonti. Real DJs know
@@xlr8887 That's not true! Fonti is an exceptional DJ but to say that about Slim is massively unfair. I guess you never heard him play Jungle or old school garage before grime. His early garage sets were amazing and that was way before the switch mix culture and trend that DJs used on the early grime circuit. DNB is generally harder to mix than all those genres combined and if you've mastered that you know.

@@TakeMeBackPirateRadio As a DJ who taught myself to mix at age 9/10 (now 41) with 1 direct drive deck and 2 stereo belt drive decks that I had to manually change tempo with my finger while using a microphone mixers faders.. trust me what I'm saying about Slim and Fonti is just fact. I'm not taking anything away from Slim and the effect he had on the scene. Having a ton of dubz and working in a record shop at the heart of it helped. Not taking anything away from Fonti and his creativity either, but the two of them have pulled some wobblers, especially on vinyl. Btw I learnt how to mix with a few Jungle, Bashment and Hip Hop vinyl by mixing those 3 genres together, so I find Jungle really easy to mix. Not trying to sound big headed sorry, just letting you know that I know what I'm talking about.

@mart3876 but it's 30 years of Rinse, no? We have two artists from circa 2000, shouldn't we get a couple from the 90s, a couple from the 2010s, who did definitive sets like YGG or 140Aks, and then a cople from this decade like Reek0 and Slew, along with DJs that were significant on Rinse in each period. So many grime fans seem stuck on Wiley and that peak '02 to '06 era. The genre's over 20 years old, let's represent all of it!
