I mean. People call men dicks all the time for being assertive. It’s about how you are assertive that allows you to walk away with a clean reputation. I only know a handful of people who do it well. I’m not one of them. I always come off like an asshole when I’m trying to get what my firm needs. I hired a woman to do this job for me. She does it with such grace you never know she’s taking you for all your worth, hell, some people thank her afterwards. It’s like magic to me.
@@jackroyaltea5034 A low level complaint that a man makes might take no notice, while the exact same words in the same tone from a woman get us called all kinds of terrible things. I think the difference is in the apology. If it's really just banter and you didn't mean it, your apology will reflect regret and show you understand who such words might hurt and how. If your apology justifies your words and minimizes their impact, then that betrays the mindset of a person that uses comedy to express thoughts that are damaging to other people yet refuses to improve.
But why do we accept this kind of toxic crap, ‘as a joke’. At the end of the day its not funny its just things immature people spout and then try to deflect as ‘just a joke’. We need to do better as a society and stop allowing any sort of ‘jokes/banter’ of this nature to continue.
@@lijohnyoutube101 You just declared dark comedy pretty much illegal. By this standard we soon have half the medical community and 9/10 of the military jailed.

Liam Neeson got into acting primarily due to being fired from his teaching job for knocking out a pupil, so he's got a history of flipping tables & losing his sh't in general.

If you said it a decade ago and feel bad for it, Or simply try to speak a fact that offends people , and get attacked by the masses and lose your job or ability to exist normally, it is "cancellation". If you said it yesterday and it is an opinion, not a fact, AND you stand by it, and are getting the same flak... it is a "consequence". Both exist and both Tribes are claiming that one is the other and vise versa.
well said. the term "cancelled" has run so far away from its actual meaning, and it's become little more than a buzzword people can use to brush of genuine criticism and deserved backlash. besides, most of the people who cry about being cancelled still have healthy fanbases, continue to find success in their careers, and remain wealthy and powerful to this day... so have they truly been cancelled? no! these people had a bad few weeks, but still came out the other side, yet still complain about it and call it "cancel culture" like it's a dumb fad they didn't deserve. just look at the Paul brothers, both confirmed grifters, both with a myriad of controversies following them around at every turn, yet they're still popular, making oodles of money, and seeing no true consequences for their actions, either criminally or socially. all attempts to "cancel" them have failed, and they continue to display no remorse for their behavior and treatment of others. it's just... it's nuts!
His explanation made it kinda suspect. Like, a dark skinned dude had assaulted his sister. Of COURSE he went out looking for a dude that fit that very basic description in order to exact some revenge. It wouldn't matter what the description was, he was gonna take it and roll with it.
If we can't allow people to make mistakes and learn from them, what's even the point of worrying about people calling you out? Once you're wrong, you're just wrong forever, as if people don't go through transformation and change all their lives. The man made a mistake, realized his flaw, and worked to change himself for the better.
No one will ever admit something like that (even if these thoughts are of the past now and they regret them) thanks to what they did to Liam. He should have been praised for his opening up about how he USED TO feel and how he got over those feelings.
Its perfextly normal to feel that in the moment. Maybe even to go out that first time right after hearing about it. But to do it forcweeks on end? That is not normal or ok. And of cpurse it is misplaced to just want to hurt someone rather they did it out not as well. Again, in the heat of the moment having those thoughts is something anyone would do. But after having time to calm down and rationally consider it. And you still keep going out looking for any person of a specific race to hurt even though you know they will be innocent? That is inexcuasable. Its good he seems to have changed. But something was clearly wrong with him.
I think the two presenters definitely believed what they were saying at least a little bit because they were saying it when they were upset with her for making what they thought was a bad call. People don’t generally banter like that if they are actually frustrated with someone. Sports people really care about calls, and it is a pretty common thing for people to bitch about female referees

I definitely agree that people can change, but they have to WANT to change. They have to be able to look at what they've said or done and understand why it was wrong. I feel like too many people simply dig in their heels and choose to die as bastards. Not MOST people, but too many.
Glad you said what you did about how there always needs to be a path to redemption. One of my old coworkers had a beautiful tattoo of an American eagle and the flag. It was a cover up. Imagine all the stupid stuff you wrote online 10, maybe 20 years ago. While drunk or high at 2am. Now if you're famous people will spend extraordinary effort to track down everything even slightly controversial that you've ever said. And remember, on the Internet people think you can never, ever change your mind on a subject. Even decades later.
I think it depends on how one handles that. If you’re deflecting or double-downing on the comment, then it comes across as something you still believe. If you recognize that that wasn’t appropriate and what was wrong about your beliefs, then people will be more inclined to believe you. That being said, one has to be VERY careful in how they convey that message. Liam Neeson could have gotten his point across by just talking about looking for someone fitting the description of his friend’s attacker.

@@BrettShadow Not really. If you try to negotiate, then employers will just hire someone who won't. There's a difference between being "legally allowed" to negotiate vs. having the "right" to negotiate.
@@BrettShadow the quotation marks around OP's word "not" suggest that what is meant is these people are unable to meaningfully negotiate pay, even if they have the right and ability to do so. they are considered replaceable and therefore their employers can simply dump them and hire someone else willing to work for the lower salary. There is only one Stace Dash, and if an employer wants HER for a job, she has the leverage to negotiate her pay. therefore, while everyone is technically allowed to negotiate pay, they might not be able to because it could jeopardize their job, and instead of earning a raise they might straight up lose their job. when your options are "keep a steady but low paying job" or "ask for higher pay and subsequently lose that income completely", i think i know what most people are going to pick. there's only one [insert influential celebrity here], there are a million shmucks like you and i out there. get the picture?

To be fair, when women are more assertive, people have a tendency to call them bitches and other pejoratives.
I was thinking this. An assertive woman is often seen as a nagging bitch, a spoiled princess, or high maintenance
There’s different ways of being assertive, there’s being a bitch for women and the male form of that would be being a dick.
I dont differentiate between men and women in that regard. I would even say thay some men can more bitchy and only got their position by sucking ****.

What?????
well said. the term "cancelled" has run so far away from its actual meaning, and it's become little more than a buzzword people can use to brush of genuine criticism and deserved backlash. besides, most of the people who cry about being cancelled still have healthy fanbases, continue to find success in their careers, and remain wealthy and powerful to this day... so have they truly been cancelled? no! these people had a bad few weeks, but still came out the other side, yet still complain about it and call it "cancel culture" like it's a dumb fad they didn't deserve.
just look at the Paul brothers, both confirmed grifters, both with a myriad of controversies following them around at every turn, yet they're still popular, making oodles of money, and seeing no true consequences for their actions, either criminally or socially. all attempts to "cancel" them have failed, and they continue to display no remorse for their behavior and treatment of others. it's just... it's nuts!

I think if Liam Neeson still felt the same thoughts now he wouldn't have admitted it. An eye for an eye is a human reaction as old as time.
People should take it easy on Neeson. He was born in Northern Ireland in 1952. He easily could have ended up blowing up shops and bars.
1. Keeping legitimate trans women out of women's spaces does not protect biological women because there is nothing to be protected against. It HARMS the trans women by putting them in danger by forcing them into men's spaces. Perverts like the cross-dressing murderer in Rowling's adult novels do not need the permission of bathroom laws to enter the spaces their target victims are in. They're going in anyway.
2. Working against care for trans youth is doing harm. Nobody is giving hormone replacement therapy to children who don't medically need it. Nobody is performing top or bottom surgery on minors who aren't in need to reconstruction for non-trans related reasons. None of this scary rushing babies into life-altering surgeries stuff is happening. What they're doing for trans youth is hitting pause on puberty, which we do for cis kids with precocious puberty all the time quite safely, so that they can go through the puberty that's right for them and need to make fewer surgical changes when they're adults who have been living as their self-identified gender for years.

I'd met Jayne when she was Wayne after a gig, he was a super nice chatty bloke. I got talking to Jayne after a gig in Liverpool the following year and was trying to get my head around the whole transsexual thing but Jayne put it in simple terms, she said "imagine having size nine feet but having to wear size seven shoes all day, no matter what you do those shoes don't fit and it hurts, well right now my shoes finally fit". in it's own way it was quite a profound moment and It's something that has stuck with me over the years. Ryan Lochte's last name is pronounced like "lock-tee."
I had a friend and coworker named Tim around 2008-2012ish who was very fit and quite good-looking. One day, he was grumbling about his girlfriend letting an old friend (guy) stay at her place while he was in town (Gainesville, FL).
I told him that he had nothing to worry about, as he looked like a young, blonde Mel Gibson, a running joke among our crew.
It was then that he asked me if I knew who Ryan Lochte was (I only knew of Michael Phelps, but Tim explained). We (myself and the other guys in the crew) were like "although you're a catch, we didn't realize that 'friend' was literally an Olympic athlete."
I apologize, but I don't remember what happened of that situation. I do know their relationship didn't last much longer, which was a shame, because she made the best quesadillas whenever we were nearby during lunch.
Watching you makes me feel so much better about being completely out of touch with popular* culture and ... well, everything.
(* If it were indeed "popular", I'd have bloody heard of it, wouldn't I?)
Simon is the only popular culture we need
@@CrisMind My oath! I s'pose it does keep me informed, just filtered through a mind that seems to work similarly to many others; exercising a modicum of common sense. So, I find out what something is, and why it's not worth knowing about. Simon does do a lot of the hard work for us when it comes to navigating the inordinate amount of human excreta littering this world under the guise of "popular culture".
Anyway, I gotta get back under the rock - there's no wifi reception under there.
J.K. Rowling is only 57. She's not some old lady who grew up in the 1930's.
thank you for this. the "it was a different time" type argument and similar references to the past being "the worst", as Simon often says, really drives me up the wall. trans people have always existed, it's not like this is some new world thing she's experiencing for the first time as an elderly crone who's too stubborn to change and too set in her ways. there are plenty of trans people who are HER AGE, or even older! and plenty of people her age who are at least tolerant enough to say "live and let live", or even fully allying themselves with queer people and actively participating in efforts to aid them. it's well past time to excuse ignorance and indeed full blown bigotry with "oh she's a product of her time". she has enormous power and influence she could be using for the greater good, she lives in the modern age where information is instantly at her fingertips, she absolutely able to speak with trans people and open her mind to experiences which are unlike her own, but she's very much choosing not to do any of things things. CHOOSING to harm those people, some of whom were once her adoring readers and fans - many in fact! it's despicable, dare i say evil, and there's no justifying it. both of my grandmothers were fully supportive of myself and my trans brother right from the moment they learned about such concepts, one going so far as to declare that my brother was her "favorite grandson". so if an 80yo woman who grew up far removed from queer culture can still wrap her mind around the concept and embrace it lovingly, what excuse does Rowling have, when she has more access to queer culture than any of our forbearers could even dream of?
Fun fact Taken was inspired from real life stories of the life of Liam Neeson, but everything happens in Belfast
I love how on at least two separate occasions here he says "The only ____ I know is... oh, I can't remember the name."
Men can not menstruate. That shouldn't be controversial.
Trans Healthcare..... While in theory doctors are supposed to do their due diligence before suggesting invasive solutions to gender disphoria or prescribing drugs, in practice this is often not what actually happens. Just listen to one of the many formerly Trans people who are speaking out against the medical and pharmaceutical industrys. Don't listen to me or anyone else listen to the people who went through it and can share their first hand experiences. It turns out when there are millions of dollars to be made morally questionable things tend to start taking place no matter the industry.
Also Ambien sucks! Mps on an army base found me in a tree at 3am. I told them i was a koala going to sleep. They said get down.. i let go and fell out of tree. They took me to er. I wasnt hurt, but my hubby got a copy of the police report for memory sake.🤦🏻♀️
I was MP, this woulda been a fun call 😂, a call I did have though, I apprehended a reborn vampire…. Or at least that’s what she thought she was 😂🤣😂

Simon, people were worried cuz Romney is Mormon.
And a complete fake. He’s proven he’s just a typical garbage politician.
You're thinking of the Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps.
The irony of Simon talking about celebrity stupidity is just too delicious.
as a person of color, I wholeheartedly understand Liam Neeson's rage at the time and later regret looking back.
it's kinda a human reaction, and when the rage subsides, we regret not being more than simply human.
🤷♂
plus he made up for it in his appearance in Atlanta
Don’t call yourself that
@@targetdemographic1257 thing is labels really don't matter, so I will call myself whichever form seems appropriate or funny or advantageous at the time as the situation merits.
the point it that it is a human reaction even if it is not an aspirational one.
I gotta be honest, often when i make a point in an argument I legit think to myself "AM I RIGHT PETER"
and that's making my day better. Don't judge.
I love it how at first Simon is like "nooo I said the words!!" then a raft of ducks just made themselves known throughout the video
I'm so glad every time I hear Simon say he has no idea who someone is. Makes me feel a bit less out of touch, since I didn't know most of these people either.
This is the first time I’ve actively disliked Simon.
I have a friend who is transitioning into a man and even he thinks the way trans people are acting is ridiculous. I wish people could remember that you don’t have to agree with everything someone says and still have respect for them.
I have a friend who is black who....
I have a friend who is gay who....
Please stop speaking for your "friend" that none of us know even exists. Speak for yourself, or stfu. Seriously, I don't believe you. No one does. And no one cares what your invisible, made up "friend" thinks, even if such a person existed and told you that, how the f would we know they meant it, and weren't just polishing your apple? Eh? Speak. For. Yourself. Trans people can speak for themselves.
the fact i thought the Liam Neeson story was going to be a different one says it all (i thought it was going to be when he said women shouldn’t get paid fairly if it meant he got less money)
@im not your friend buddy please let the women out of your basement, they don't deserve what you're doing to them
@@auntbee6993 i insta-reported/blocked. looked like a fake account anyway
@@onemorechris they could not have been American; hardly anyone gets paid maternal leave!
"If you told me, I'd know immediately" Bravo Simon, Bravo
Was I weird in not being upset with Liam Neeson? He was telling a story about something ignorant he said/did decades ago that he's not proud of.
My wife today was looking at motorbike helmets and was looking at a pink accented one. She cracked the shits because the ones in those colours are always a small size. I said "because women's heads are smaller, they don't need as much space for their little brains". She got I was messing about. I'd be cancelled if I was famous and recording it though
Hey Simon, could you do a video on Bernie eckleston the old F1 boss who's now on trial?
Isn't that the guy who said he would take a bullet for Vladimir Putin?
It would be the perfect time since F1 starts soon and that nob is probably going to jail.
I thought he died . His daughter is the most entitled, rude, C word I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.
Did anyone actually take what Rowling said to mean only people who menstruate are women? Only women menstruate was what she clearly said.
There’s no difference in those two statements. Not everyone who menstruates identifies as a woman and not every woman menstruates (even the cis-gendered ones). She was mocking the use of an inclusive term.
Also, the thing she was mocking was actually using the term because pre-menarch girls and post-menopausal women are NOT people who menstruate. It was specifically about people who menstruate.
@@esteemedmortal5917 "Not everyone who menstruates identifies as a woman". Identifying as something has nothing to do with what one actually is. There are people who identify as aliens, elves, animals, and amputees.
@@ThreadBomb gender and sex are not the same thing. Even looking at sex, it’s not as simple as XY or XX.
Even if she might not have been explicit in that tweet, she has more recently decided the being a terf is the hill she wants to die on quite conclusively. And I have a suspicion that this controversy could still haunt the franchise for a long time because she just keeps escalating the issue. I feel like she's already reached the "Lovecraft was a racist" level of notoriety.
JK Rowling is worth BILLIONS…with a “B”. If she got cancelled tomorrow and never earned another dime, she’d still be able to heat her mansion with nothing but piles of cash for the rest of her life and stay warm until she passes through track 15 1/2 to the other side.
Mansions, plural. She can heat all her mansions with piles of cash from now until forever, amen.🙏💜
And because of that, we should be giving her MORE money?
