i done a test bonnet with just dry metal flakes in multiple colors straight over bear metal using clear as a base for the flakes to stick too , The bonnet been outside for 7 years now and no sign of ever coming off .. I love your work as well keep it up the truck looks Awesome
Awesome! Couple questions as I'm interested in trying to stuff similar. Obviously there's no primer/bondo to get it perfectly smooth. If there's tiny low spots how do you get them perfectly smooth?
Hi, Glad you liked the video, actually the truck hood had a bunch of small dents in it , I laid out the flame pattern to go around them and filled them in after I did the flame work, but if you can’t do that I would work the metal as best you can to get it as straight as possible, if your doing the grind method and going to Candy over it the clear coats will fill in very small imperfections in the metal and after wet sanding they should hardly be noticeable, Hope this Helps, Thanks for watching
I think it would look kick A$$, taking parts of OG grind pattern, and airbrushing slight skullz etc.. whatever u feel onto first, kinda like “hidden eggs”, something to grasp a keen eye, great job
They make all kinds of stencils for airbrushing, skulls are one of my favorite, but painting a door panel with paint could rub off , if it was hit enough times with an elbow , what about having something embroidered on a piece of vinyl and then attaching to your door panel?
@EYEBALLJOHNsKUSTOMKORNER ah yes the car is all in fiberglass. I'm about yo spray jambs this week with 2k then the green metalic base. Then I wanted to do the airbrush then clear it all.
That looks awesome man I have a question do you have to use any kind of conditioner on the bear metal to prevent rust Or just spray adhesion promoter and then you're clear
No metal prep, that will change the color of the metal, I just wiped the metal down with lint free cloth and used the adhesion promoter then clear coat, I know a lot of people are worried about the metal rusting, I did get some small spots of rust come back but the truck was outside for 5 years on the East coast so not too bad, I would do it again, Lol
@@EYEBALLJOHNsKUSTOMKORNER Yeah that's what I thought about the metal prep it will change colors of the metal Your truck turned out awesome and the black and red just pops
Your right, I thought the same thing, but it worked truthfully not 100% sure that the adhesion promoter was needed or not, but the clear coat is just paint with no pigment, so you are coating the metal and sealing it, I did this paint job 4 years ago and the truck has been outside all that time and two small spots of rust the size of a pencil eraser showed up under the flames on the front but didn’t lift up just discolored the paint so I would say it works, Thanks for your interest in this video
Beautiful truck man. Wouldn't it be easier to just candy the hole hood, mask the positive flames and spray the black? It would save you from the painstaking reverse masking..
AFTER YOU PUT THE CANDY COLOR ON WHY DID'NT YOU JUST COVER THE FLAMES THEN AFTER YOU PUT THE BLACK ON PULLED OFF THE TAPE ON THE FLAMES AND CLEARED EVERYTHING AT ONCE, I REALLY LIKE YOUR IDEA AND I CANT WAIT TO TRY IT MYSELF, I'M AN PROFESSIONAL BODY AND PAINTER. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOUR WORK AND IDEA'S THANK YOU AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!! DJ
I wanted to protect the Candy paint just in case, didn’t want to take a chance of damaging the finish cause if something happened to the Candy it is a pain in the Butt to blend Candy paint, so I figured just clear coat it , Glad you liked the video stay tuned more Kool Stuff coming up
Use any urethane clear you like using, really dosen't matter, I started using HB clear, it's half the price of other clears and it sprays nice and wet sands Beautiful
At that time all I had was single stage black and I wanted the finish as smooth as possible, if it was base coat black then of course you wouldn't sand just spray clear over it
I noticed this is your inly video" so-far". I hope you do a lot more. You know this technique will get copied. LOL. But I'll bet only half to a third will look as good as yours. Congrats on finding something fresh and new for the HOTROD WORLD, Good Luck
Thanks, Glad you likes the video, I will be making more videos should be a New one this week on Fiberglass repair, Hopefully one of Many more to come, Thanks
Someone should make a metal Corvette, Lol, but you could most likely get the same effect using gold or silver leaf and making a pattern in it, Thanks for watching, John
I love to criticise other people’s work ……. However in concept and in ability this is amazing…….I would love to try this technique for myself if that’s ok
Spectacular work. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Glad you liked it, more videos coming next week
That looks brilliant! What an amazing way to add depth to the flames.

VERY COOL paint job!!!

For a beginner what rat rod 4" tattoo can I paint on my c3 vette inside door panels.. one that would be the easiest? Like with stencils etc?
Like rat fink or eyeball

The adhesion promoter and clear base won't fail?
I love the end result just kinda confused why's my brain telling me that this shouldn't work
