It being unscripted doesnt mean the aired scene was the first time they did it. Most likely, when Steven first did it, they probably broke out laughing. But it was so good, they changed the scene on the fly and did a few more takes, hence it being "unscripted".

However for this scene in particular it's possible that it was the first take based on Paul's reaction

I’ve never had a television series effect me on such a profound level and I have no idea why. Toby was one of our favorites without question. As strange as it is to say, I’ve never watched the two final episodes until last night. For some reason it was a cast I couldn’t bear to see go, so I for years I put off the inevitable farewell. It was truly one of the best finales I’ve ever seen but I was gutted at the end. When Andy said, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them”, I wept out loud and for the life of me I don’t know why. How right he was.
the last sentence really got me, "the insistence on maintaining the documentary style created a level of reality that makes the show more timeless than others" that's what made me fall in love with the office in the first place, the camera work zooming in and out on the character so awkwardly, static sound in the background, making the show more relatable and spontaneous.
I love you Toby, you are the most patient and caring character that has ever lived! I always felt sympathy for you when Michael dissed you. You are a true role model.
GamingTaylor that style kept me from watching this show for 15 years. IMO it's the actors who make this show relatable. The show crew isn't about young hot men and women. There are at least 4-6 people overweight which you don't see on other shows where ugly old women are portrayed buy young and hot peiple which is not realistic. Even Pam who is hot girl of the show is realistically hot, not Angelina Jolie level hot

my fav toby scene is when they're all locked up in the building, he tells a joke, everybody laughs, suddenly he's confortable enough to lay his right hand on pam's leg, then everybody just stop laughing, looking how awkward that was and he says "i guess ill just jump over the fence" and there he goes.
Paul is so immersed in the show that he is still in character, 7 years after the airing of the last episode. This is what it means to be a method actor. Simply amazing.
Aside from all the Toby comments, I think he helped bring us one of the greatest TV Show of all times. Plus, the guy's mind is so creative, he wrote the episodes so good while acting on it as a legitimate character.

my fav toby scene is when they're all locked up in the building, he tells a joke, everybody laughs, suddenly he's confortable enough to lay his right hand on pam's leg, then everybody just stop laughing, looking how awkward that was and he says "i guess ill just jump over the fence" and there he goes.

Paul is so immersed in the show that he is still in character, 7 years after the airing of the last episode. This is what it means to be a method actor. Simply amazing.

Aside from all the Toby comments, I think he helped bring us one of the greatest TV Show of all times. Plus, the guy's mind is so creative, he wrote the episodes so good while acting on it as a legitimate character.
Just finished watching the show less than 30 minutes ago, and I still want to see more of these people
