  • Episode 486. Benromach is killing it lately. Price is good, and many are non-chill filtered and natural colour. Yes .... some are clearly not and please head over to Ralfy for why that is important. Here, I sip their 10 year old and a Contrast release, Cara Gold. I ejoy both and suggest these are some of the best Speyside releases for the price. Thoughts? #benromach #scotch #whiskyneighbour

The 10 is a great place to start. Nice bonus whisky as well. Cheers my friend.

Chill filtered or Non Chill Filtered, as long as the end user enjoys there dram is what counts. Enjoying a whiskey is what the experience is all about.

Thanks John for the video- t'wasvery interesting 👌Benromach 10 (new version is way better imho)is one of my favourites alongside with Tobermory 12 ,, Highland Park 15 old version (discontinued in 2014) and many others. As to The Cara Gold, we ain't got this version of B. yet here in Moscow((( But as to your description of both, me personally prefer smoky, heavily or slightly peated whisky so ireckon the Benromach 10 43%ABV is more my cup of tea" than tropical fruit driven the Cara Gold👌 Slainte🤝Best regards from Moscow , Russia

Great video. Yes I defiantly want nc ncf 46% min too but that Benromach 10 is a winner. The old packaging CS was on sale for a ridiculously low price a while back so stocked up on that. Love this distillery. Cheers Jon

    Hey Neighbour 😊
Nicely said on these Benromach's. The 10 has gotten a bad rap. People need to taste it instead of seeing 43% and passing. The 10 is chill filtred and yet is still a good Scotch, especially at the price. They use great casks and make it the right way outside of the chill business.
That Cara Gold sounds excellent. You've convinced me that I need a bottle. Cheers 🥃

Thanks! That said ... several, very respectful whisky people have said they do not like the Cara Gold. It is good for me, but maybe try a taste somewhere before a whole bottle!

There seems to be a fair number of different Benromach about and the difficulty is deciding on which ones to buy. Here in Alberta (Calgary/Edmonton) there is the Triple Distilled, Cara Gold, Cask Strength, Kiln Dried, Air Dried, Peat Smoke Bourbon, Peat Smoke Sherry, and even, get this, a 10 year old with the old livery! I'm going to get the cask strength but wasn't sure about the others, though after this review the Cara Gold sounds like a good bet.

I certaily enjoyed it. However, others have been less pleased with it than me. The 10 is a near staple now, and I need to chase down the current Cask Strengths. Thanks for sharing!

I haven't tried the Cara Gold but I went through a bottle of Benromach 10 recently and it's a great bottle for the price. It would be an incredible bottle at 46% or higher and in natural form. Dare I say Benromach is a good alternative to those hard to find Campbeltown offerings?

Ralfy cares about chill filtration? I must have missed that video😂
Benromach is one of the best quality for money distilleries right now, it's a solid recommendation.
You might be right about the tropical notes making the difference. I am not a big fan of those and the Cara Gold is one of the two least good Benromach I've had. (The other being the old edition of the Organic which was just pepper bonanza.)

I do agree that an all natural presentation would be nice. But there are plenty of 40 and 43% bottle sin whisk(e)y that demonstrate that they can be full flavoured and out perform ones that are NCF and 46%+. These two for example, I much prefer the 10 over the Cara Gold.

Have a bottle of the Ben 10, as yet untried. I'll have to get to it at some point soon.
From everything you've said, it should be opened around the firepit on a beautiful summer's evening with good friends.
The Cara Gold definitely sounds interesting as well...
    Enjoy your week Jon!

I hope you enjoy the Ben 10, I certainly do, and it would pair perfectly with the night you describe! I should warn you, many people ha e told me they do not enjoy the Cara Gold. I do, but it does have more tropical notes, and very little of BenRomach's funk or peat.

Benromach cask strength anything is automatically a winner. But the 10, 15, 21 and other NAS bottlings at around 43-46% abv, are just .. well, not great. I really don't understand this new trendy comparison between Springbank and Benromach. They are completely different. Springbank is like a heartfelt homemade meal, and Benromach is like Applebees. Just my take.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
