I thought it was way cooler that a butcher in the first Dead Island was a strong, fast zombie but they used their hands so much that they broke off and started to use their arm bones to kill.

Due to being chronically ill and requiring medicine and doctor appointments...I'd not survive for exceptionally long in an Autophage fueled Zombie Apocalypse, the chances of being just a carrier or Numen are too low. Likely, I'd become a Burster or Slobber.
I have seen that reality. You would definitely be a Burster. Your chances of becoming a Slobber may or may not be there. As for me, I would either turn into a Runner (I hope so, since Runners are my favorite types of zombies) or a Butcher.
Nope, he fumbled the lore. Autophage won't activate naturally until roughly the year 2160, so you would be long dead already anyways. Although you are likely still going to die from the millions of mutated undead trying to clap your cheeks.
Fortunatly, like every other zombie apocalypse, it's a physical and biological impossibility because if the zombies didn't kill you you'd have to worry about the normal diseases their rotting remains could harbor and I dont even want to think about the smell.
Oh yeah the bloaters in their flavor text say they contain loads of diseases that they expel out when they explode, but luckily since you're immune you don't got to worry about that.
That's an interesting thing people don't think about much. The amount of bacteria and filth would be insane, corpses make enough mess when they don't move

Def wouldn't survive. If you were lucky enough to survive the initial airborne disease you would quickly become overwhelmed by zombies because the government didn't try to eradicate them rather try to just contain and maintain a border, no help is coming, you are fucked. If you try to escape you will be shot on sight by the military (if you survive long enough for the military to fall apart you'll just be unable to escape the apocalypse in general) You are alone and you have no hope, if you manage to live through everything you will eventually succumb to your own loneliness and isolation will drive you insane
Played as him for my first playthrough and I really loved his personality. His voice work was decent as well. When the slayer profiles were introduced on the web sit, I thought he would be an annoying soundcloud rapper or something. But him being the nerdier and really humble one made him way more likable to me.
I have a theory that the zombies have a hive mind that seeks to destroy all of the non-immune. If an autophage evolved further they may be able to control the turned zombies or even create a private army with their bites.
@@dylanmonstrum1538 If you play the game and paid attention to the main quest, the Autophage (mind you, this virus was discovered a whole decade before the events of 1 and Riptide and how it started in LA is some evil scientist type of shit), and biomass is explained pretty well, how incredibly rare Numens are and how they are connected to a cure, and what causes the apex variants and the “Uber” Mutators (failed experiments as the ingame lore calls them). After watching this video, it felt like a nice summary of events tied in a pretty bow. In essence, this video is something you can easily figure out, not really any research required, just have your ears listening to the story.
Love this. The fact they went the DNA route is aces! We don’t really know our own DNA all that well yet and for the virus to already be in us is down right creepy. It’s an ancient being capable of wiping humanity out. 10/10 video!

The fact that all of this power is able to be triggered suddenly makes me feel like the autophage was the key to a lock in the mind, something that would unleash our true power once awakened, the numens being a representation of that, while zombies just spread the key.

No lie. Some of the biological anatomical and physiological things that are mentioned and happen in some of these apocalyptuses really get you thinking on your own genealogy, biology, anatomy and physiology. Like the mention of how the autophage is sitting. Dormant in everyone's DNA in the Dead Island series. What kind of mutations or transformations are hidden within our own DNA in real life and how we are all technically on a biological countdown? Usually we end up dying before that. Biological countdown is reached but it's still a pretty scary thought
Also in the game Sam was infected again and started turning. Obviously different virus, but never know. The virus could evolve again to some other sister virus. With there being a zombie with a chest mouth, I don’t think it’s too crazy to say that the virus could evolve past those no longer being immune. Just a fun idea I had when I got to the ending of the game. It does suck knowing all the previous survivors from the first game could be dead if we get Dead Island 3 and the virus took over the world.
This is one of the evidence that the dr isnt right and that the autophage is the hk virus that had been changed by their experiments. The thruth is everything he says is most likely not the case and hes just gone mental. They experimented on the hk virus causing it to change which means those immune to hk are no longer immune.

I would hope to be a numen... but id probably become a burster. Speaking of a burster - the scariest thing to hear while exploring the game is "sorry" and a massive boom from behind you. Also, the term autophage actually has another defintion but i love the way you put it and described it. I think its mentioned in the game by a Konstant OSK but it is something along the lines of self canabalization and self mutation.
Hopefully the DLC actually let you fight the other nuemen trio & maybe we'll actually hear from the others survivors besides just easter eggs. Also where is charon?
i heard one that was on one of the beached carriers on the Venice Beach map say "let's be friends!" while i was moving slowly through the boat in pitch black. that was definitely a moment where i felt true fear lmao
After a certain missing quest, I’ve come to believe that the starting point for a Numen’s odds aren’t as bad as it’s made out. My reason? The bombers. There ends up being a specific bomber you can accidentally talk to (even before that, bombers are talking all game, but this guy is holding full conversations with you) and notes found say that he was 100% completely normal before his, well, particular situation. Even that his bite mark was healing up just fine, something that does not happen if not immune (due to infection happening too quick) I think somewhere in that time frame between when he was last seen til we see the guy (don’t want to spoil it, it was a pretty big shock) there’s an important final step in the Numen process, in which failing it results in the Bomber state, in which the person is still there, in a rejection state of the virus, and ultimately culminates in exploding to a victim (whether in a quest to seek help and becoming too excited, or becoming overly deluded by whatever this entity is, and seeking to infect/kill others with it’s explosion) Think about it. During the game, even after our character accepts being ‘immune’, they constantly have these rushes in which they become incredibly sick. Kondradt describes the player as “clinging to the edge of the pool, afraid to let go” and forces them to undergo the fury state. However, even after this, she does not describe them as anything different until AFTER the incident with the first Mutator, in which she specifically refers to them then as “Rebirth”. That implies to me then that our character was still working the infection around in their bodies, that they weren’t to be labeled as “Numen” until it finally settled in the body. I think the only reason the odds are so bad in the beginning are because of how people fear the massive unknown that this outbreak is, it culminating somehow into the fail process that results in Bombers, instead of Numen. This is just a theory though. Looking forward to the next two dlcs (I got the season pass :) epic game sale btw so I only paid the price of the base game) to see if maybe this gets expanded further. Hope this made sense to anyone 😅 Edit: I had a quest to return to that subway, so poked my head in Reiner’s old room. Confirmed, Bombers are Numens who failed this ‘mystery quest’. That’s why they have their voice and switch between being horrified at what’s happened to them, or embracing this complete unknown entity.
type 0 blood doesn’t cause immunity but rather resistance to the virus that prevents the disease from ravaging the rest of the hosts body unless they are exposed to too much mutagen like alluded to in dead island riptide by dr kessler. the autophage in dead island 2 is stronger than the virus in the first two games since sam b gets sick at the end of the game.
My personal belief for why Sam looks and sounds differently is that the gas in riptide not only affected his immunity, but altered some other cells mutated his vocal cords, whilst giving him his hair back but then again the game takes place canonically 16-17 years after DI-1 and DI-Riptide i think
I don’t think it’s that deep I think devs just wanted to modernize Sam B giving him a fresh line up and no baggy jeans aswell a new voice actor I’m sure there’s a reason why they didn’t get the OG back but either way but for in game lore reasons ig so even tho it probably wasn’t intended by them

Im pretty sure that Failed Numen are what the Mutators are. Cuz that was the story of the first one you met, he was immune, then they tried testing him and he failed and when you find him he became a mutant freak
He failed to go through with some biological process/phase in order to become a true Numen but he failed and turned. Also, that guy was specific, all Mutators may not be failed Numen

That’s what implied but it’s also implied they are chosen by the autophage. The slayers and Numen in game are technically not immune they are infected it just takes a different form. Whether they are chosen by some sort of hive mind or just through sheer will power.
Let's say, hypothetically, I am a barbie girl. Okay let's even say I'm in a barbie world. Right so, in this scenario, I would obviously know from personal experience that life in plastic is fantastic. The first section of this video was somewhat nostalgic to me, because I remember buying the first dead island game at a GameStop with my mom (I was about 11/12) and was fascinated reading through the little booklet inside the case as my mom shopped in Macys 😂

The start is unbelievably slow but does get WAY better as you progress. My only issue is the districts are way too small with the story being too short for a full retail price tag. The gore system is fun and really does save this game ngl will be playing for a while unlike DL2
The first they spoiled us in Deep Silver was that the Dead Island's virus only infected the miami beach but considering the amount of time after so long, it is much more surreal that they introduced us with the virus already present in America for quite some time now.

I live in L.A. and lemme just say this game is VERY accurate to how L.A. Actually looks like. Those trains also are only used on three lines, The E Expo Line, A Blue Line, and L Gold Line, E Line takes you from DTLA to Santa Monica, The A Line takes you all the way to Downtown Long Beach from DTLA and the L Gold Line currently takes you all the way from DTLA to Azusa and I believe they're adding two more stops to the L line. This game is just wow. Though I have a feeling there could've been more infected types here.
I imagine that the burster speaks to lure or even daze victims into a false sense of security, whether or not they actually are intelligent I dunno but its kind of a cool idea to imagine that the autophage is hijacking their brain to control them

@@AnimeShinigami13 i loved the series too, such an amazing show, at first its just a horror show of "outbreak" and then at later seasons the revelation of ancients was beyong fucked up, not to mention the underlying implications of their existence and what that means to everyone else. Also the fact that even till the end of the show basic "vampires" were an immense danger was incredibly realistic, considering everyone is just a mortal human with flesh and blood to some supernatural monster.

The guys fighting against the strigoi blew up a bomb, iirc a nuke even to destroy the evacuated city with all the vampires because they went to the underground tunnels and its a massive maze. Master almost won, but Zach detonated the bomb and killed everyone. Both happy and sad ending, but was still okay, imho.
I love how there's all these details and theories about how the zombies come around and then there's just "Or it could be something in the ground" I actually had to pause and laugh I'd love to watch myself suffer through learning that information and realize it might just be for nothing. At the same time, I've got so many questions for hoard shooter folks. Mainly, how do you keep track of all these different kinds of zombies? And don't you get sick of it when there are too many different kinds to balance?? Like I dunno about anyone else but I do. The reason why I wouldn't survive Dead Island 2, I don't have cardio, from Zombieland. They would quickly catch up to me if I tried running away and while I'm exhausted they would ultimately insect me.

Phil LaMarr is one of the top billed voice actors in America. So his replacement was probably due to scheduling conflicts or even budget concerns. It’s a shame he was replaced because while Cavin Cornwall did a great job on DI2, Sam’s personality was changed so much he doesn’t even feel like the same person. But look at Frank West in DR4 vs. DR1 or Off the record. Returning characters disappoint all the time and it’s not necessarily the new voice but the rewrite of the characters personality.
I just thought of something. You said the HK and Autophage viruses aren't related. If thats the case then how was Sam B's body able to fight off the Autophage for so long? Also if the viruses aren't related how are the zombies from each game so similar?
he got the info wrong the Autophage and HK are both just activation of the dormant DNA just different ways with different effects. HK happened like 15 years prior to dead island 2 but Dr. Reed discovered this DNA issue 25 years before dead island 2 so it was known about 10 years before dead island 1. HK was activation thru a rare mutation found in a Tribe. Autophage was a scientific creation based around the HK from the tribe in dead island 1. Obviously they retconned a bit of dead island 1 and riptide to make it seem like it was something they knew ahead of time and were experimenting with to make a true cure.
I would say the HK Virus was, because it's origin was in animal experiments, simply a mutation to the autophage. It was very similar to todays autophage but simply lacked the grand nature of it, no hive mind or super humans. It was most like the Kuru and HIV combination that somehow triggered a lesser version of the autophage or something like that
I’d guess what he meant by saying “brother/sister virus” is that they are related, just not directly linearly, they both originate from the same imbedded code of dna, but one was not the result or parent of the other if that makes any sense. Basically they’re horizontal on the family tree rather than vertical

Horizon Forbidden West was amazing, they patch a buttload into Dying Light 2 (which should've come out better, but at least they fix it) and many more. I don't like price raises obviously, but please just be somewhat realistic on your worldview, games won't be 50 quid anymore

The only question I have is how long has Los Angeles been in an apocalypse? Because they have military personnel, dedicated buses that ignite the passengers, evac points & safe zones. I’m thinkin it’s been goin on for like 2 or 3 months maybe because there’s plenty of survivors & people were having parties.
Apparently, you can read a paper in game that says the military were already aware of the outbreak happening because it was planned. That’s why they were so prepared

My belief is that Pathogen HK just forcefully activates the Autophage within human cells. And the outbreak in DI2 used a modified version to kick it off. This hypothesis comes from the fact that a previous Immune (Sam B) can get infected in DI2.
If it's a sister variant of what was on banoi, would the 5 original immuned survivor still be possibly immune or just straight up no? We only see Sam B here and without getting into the story too much he seems to do fine against the infected for awhile. Just a random thought

I need to explain this, Pathogen HK wasn’t accidentally leaked on Banoi, it was purposefully released like LAs outbreak by Reuben with the HK1 Virus, Consortium purposefully set up the events of dead island and the heros to arrive on Banoi to purposely start the infection and make it stronger/enhance it and to get their blood for a vaccine as they knew that the virus would kick start the autophage process, as seen in riptide with the mutagen and Japanese tunnels. Aswell those games are canon to dead island 2 and were covered up as explained by Sam B, Banoi outbreak was the first purposely autophage outbreak known so far second Is LA
@@momsspaghetti4504 It's possible they subconsciously thought about it. Military games have remote communication systems and headsets. Kyle Crane had a walkie talkie and headset with him in Dying Light. It might have been unintentional, but it's something that adds a bit more immersion.

The viruses were separate but if sam had a side effect to the one in dead island 2 that means the survivors in dead island two would most likely be immune but the virus that take place in dead island 2 was a more less aggressive version and would effect the mind of people and not so much infect them because if you listen carefully if you hit zombies in dead island one they still sound like humans

If you were lucky enough to survive the initial airborne disease you would quickly become overwhelmed by zombies because the government didn't try to eradicate them rather try to just contain and maintain a border, no help is coming, you are fucked. If you try to escape you will be shot on sight by the military (if you survive long enough for the military to fall apart you'll just be unable to escape the apocalypse in general)
You are alone and you have no hope, if you manage to live through everything you will eventually succumb to your own loneliness and isolation will drive you insane

When the slayer profiles were introduced on the web sit, I thought he would be an annoying soundcloud rapper or something. But him being the nerdier and really humble one made him way more likable to me.

@@dylanmonstrum1538 If you play the game and paid attention to the main quest, the Autophage (mind you, this virus was discovered a whole decade before the events of 1 and Riptide and how it started in LA is some evil scientist type of shit), and biomass is explained pretty well, how incredibly rare Numens are and how they are connected to a cure, and what causes the apex variants and the “Uber” Mutators (failed experiments as the ingame lore calls them). After watching this video, it felt like a nice summary of events tied in a pretty bow.
In essence, this video is something you can easily figure out, not really any research required, just have your ears listening to the story.

No lie. Some of the biological anatomical and physiological things that are mentioned and happen in some of these apocalyptuses really get you thinking on your own genealogy, biology, anatomy and physiology. Like the mention of how the autophage is sitting. Dormant in everyone's DNA in the Dead Island series. What kind of mutations or transformations are hidden within our own DNA in real life and how we are all technically on a biological countdown? Usually we end up dying before that. Biological countdown is reached but it's still a pretty scary thought

Also in the game Sam was infected again and started turning. Obviously different virus, but never know. The virus could evolve again to some other sister virus. With there being a zombie with a chest mouth, I don’t think it’s too crazy to say that the virus could evolve past those no longer being immune.

I would hope to be a numen... but id probably become a burster. Speaking of a burster - the scariest thing to hear while exploring the game is "sorry" and a massive boom from behind you. Also, the term autophage actually has another defintion but i love the way you put it and described it. I think its mentioned in the game by a Konstant OSK but it is something along the lines of self canabalization and self mutation.
I love that the game has more of a "zombieland / Dead Rising" slight goof vibe to it, instead of more "serious survival".

i heard one that was on one of the beached carriers on the Venice Beach map say "let's be friends!" while i was moving slowly through the boat in pitch black. that was definitely a moment where i felt true fear lmao
After a certain missing quest, I’ve come to believe that the starting point for a Numen’s odds aren’t as bad as it’s made out.
My reason? The bombers. There ends up being a specific bomber you can accidentally talk to (even before that, bombers are talking all game, but this guy is holding full conversations with you) and notes found say that he was 100% completely normal before his, well, particular situation. Even that his bite mark was healing up just fine, something that does not happen if not immune (due to infection happening too quick)
I think somewhere in that time frame between when he was last seen til we see the guy (don’t want to spoil it, it was a pretty big shock) there’s an important final step in the Numen process, in which failing it results in the Bomber state, in which the person is still there, in a rejection state of the virus, and ultimately culminates in exploding to a victim (whether in a quest to seek help and becoming too excited, or becoming overly deluded by whatever this entity is, and seeking to infect/kill others with it’s explosion)
Think about it. During the game, even after our character accepts being ‘immune’, they constantly have these rushes in which they become incredibly sick. Kondradt describes the player as “clinging to the edge of the pool, afraid to let go” and forces them to undergo the fury state. However, even after this, she does not describe them as anything different until AFTER the incident with the first Mutator, in which she specifically refers to them then as “Rebirth”.
That implies to me then that our character was still working the infection around in their bodies, that they weren’t to be labeled as “Numen” until it finally settled in the body.
I think the only reason the odds are so bad in the beginning are because of how people fear the massive unknown that this outbreak is, it culminating somehow into the fail process that results in Bombers, instead of Numen.
This is just a theory though. Looking forward to the next two dlcs (I got the season pass :) epic game sale btw so I only paid the price of the base game) to see if maybe this gets expanded further.

Edit: I had a quest to return to that subway, so poked my head in Reiner’s old room. Confirmed, Bombers are Numens who failed this ‘mystery quest’. That’s why they have their voice and switch between being horrified at what’s happened to them, or embracing this complete unknown entity.
type 0 blood doesn’t cause immunity but rather resistance to the virus that prevents the disease from ravaging the rest of the hosts body unless they are exposed to too much mutagen like alluded to in dead island riptide by dr kessler. the autophage in dead island 2 is stronger than the virus in the first two games since sam b gets sick at the end of the game.

Im pretty sure that Failed Numen are what the Mutators are. Cuz that was the story of the first one you met, he was immune, then they tried testing him and he failed and when you find him he became a mutant freak

The start is unbelievably slow but does get WAY better as you progress. My only issue is the districts are way too small with the story being too short for a full retail price tag. The gore system is fun and really does save this game ngl will be playing for a while unlike DL2
The first they spoiled us in Deep Silver was that the Dead Island's virus only infected the miami beach but considering the amount of time after so long, it is much more surreal that they introduced us with the virus already present in America for quite some time now.

I live in L.A. and lemme just say this game is VERY accurate to how L.A. Actually looks like. Those trains also are only used on three lines, The E Expo Line, A Blue Line, and L Gold Line, E Line takes you from DTLA to Santa Monica, The A Line takes you all the way to Downtown Long Beach from DTLA and the L Gold Line currently takes you all the way from DTLA to Azusa and I believe they're adding two more stops to the L line. This game is just wow. Though I have a feeling there could've been more infected types here.

@@AnimeShinigami13 i loved the series too, such an amazing show, at first its just a horror show of "outbreak" and then at later seasons the revelation of ancients was beyong fucked up, not to mention the underlying implications of their existence and what that means to everyone else. Also the fact that even till the end of the show basic "vampires" were an immense danger was incredibly realistic, considering everyone is just a mortal human with flesh and blood to some supernatural monster.

The guys fighting against the strigoi blew up a bomb, iirc a nuke even to destroy the evacuated city with all the vampires because they went to the underground tunnels and its a massive maze. Master almost won, but Zach detonated the bomb and killed everyone. Both happy and sad ending, but was still okay, imho.

Phil LaMarr is one of the top billed voice actors in America. So his replacement was probably due to scheduling conflicts or even budget concerns. It’s a shame he was replaced because while Cavin Cornwall did a great job on DI2, Sam’s personality was changed so much he doesn’t even feel like the same person. But look at Frank West in DR4 vs. DR1 or Off the record. Returning characters disappoint all the time and it’s not necessarily the new voice but the rewrite of the characters personality.

I just thought of something. You said the HK and Autophage viruses aren't related. If thats the case then how was Sam B's body able to fight off the Autophage for so long? Also if the viruses aren't related how are the zombies from each game so similar?
he got the info wrong the Autophage and HK are both just activation of the dormant DNA just different ways with different effects. HK happened like 15 years prior to dead island 2 but Dr. Reed discovered this DNA issue 25 years before dead island 2 so it was known about 10 years before dead island 1. HK was activation thru a rare mutation found in a Tribe. Autophage was a scientific creation based around the HK from the tribe in dead island 1. Obviously they retconned a bit of dead island 1 and riptide to make it seem like it was something they knew ahead of time and were experimenting with to make a true cure.
I would say the HK Virus was, because it's origin was in animal experiments, simply a mutation to the autophage. It was very similar to todays autophage but simply lacked the grand nature of it, no hive mind or super humans. It was most like the Kuru and HIV combination that somehow triggered a lesser version of the autophage or something like that
I’d guess what he meant by saying “brother/sister virus” is that they are related, just not directly linearly, they both originate from the same imbedded code of dna, but one was not the result or parent of the other if that makes any sense. Basically they’re horizontal on the family tree rather than vertical

The quality is only going down when you look at certain things. Horizon Forbidden West was amazing, they patch a buttload into Dying Light 2 (which should've come out better, but at least they fix it) and many more.

My belief is that Pathogen HK just forcefully activates the Autophage within human cells. And the outbreak in DI2 used a modified version to kick it off.
This hypothesis comes from the fact that a previous Immune (Sam B) can get infected in DI2.

If it's a sister variant of what was on banoi, would the 5 original immuned survivor still be possibly immune or just straight up no? We only see Sam B here and without getting into the story too much he seems to do fine against the infected for awhile. Just a random thought
If exposed enough I think they get infected. I doubt 1 or 2 bites would do much to them but Sam got bit a lot at least he tells us so.

I need to explain this, Pathogen HK wasn’t accidentally leaked on Banoi, it was purposefully released like LAs outbreak by Reuben with the HK1 Virus, Consortium purposefully set up the events of dead island and the heros to arrive on Banoi to purposely start the infection and make it stronger/enhance it and to get their blood for a vaccine as they knew that the virus would kick start the autophage process, as seen in riptide with the mutagen and Japanese tunnels. Aswell those games are canon to dead island 2 and were covered up as explained by Sam B, Banoi outbreak was the first purposely autophage outbreak known so far second Is LA

@@momsspaghetti4504 It's possible they subconsciously thought about it. Military games have remote communication systems and headsets. Kyle Crane had a walkie talkie and headset with him in Dying Light.
It might have been unintentional, but it's something that adds a bit more immersion.
so if jacob or one of the other survivors were bitten by a zombie from banoi with pathogen HK, would they be immune? or would it be similar to Sam B being immune to pathogen HK but not immune to the autophage?
The viruses were separate but if sam had a side effect to the one in dead island 2 that means the survivors in dead island two would most likely be immune but the virus that take place in dead island 2 was a more less aggressive version and would effect the mind of people and not so much infect them because if you listen carefully if you hit zombies in dead island one they still sound like humans
