As a native Vermonter, we probably wouldn't classify what Texas experienced as a storm......but we expect that kind of weather and are well prepared for it. I dont belive this is the end of the storms for you folks. My hope is that the powers that be in Texas, wake up to reality and start worrying about their constituents, instead of just themselves. I am very happy to hear you are on your way back to normal, and I pray that rest of the state can achieve that very soon.

Glad to see y’all are safe and getting back to normal. Growing up in Philly, we had a regular dose of snowstorms where we would get between a foot and two of snow. However, in general we were prepared for it. Usually the thing that was worse than snow was ice storms. Usually they would knock out power but fortunately not for too long of a time. I hope that Texas’ government heeds this as a warning bc according to some studies that I’ve read this could become a regular occurrence. Mostly it is driven by climate change which unfortunately there are far too many deniers. Best wishes for continued good health and a quick return to normal.

Wow JJ, you all sure got hammered. I’m from the Chicago area and last week we got 17 inches of snow and temps went to -20. But here you can’t be surprised by that. Water, and access to water should never be taken for granted....we are all so lucky and blessed here compared to other parts of the world. HI LUNA...you sure have tremendous eye-mouth coordination.

I live in Montana and while we may lose power due to wind/snow storms, we are usually prepared for it which is helpful, of course. Also a lot of homes here have wood stoves or propane heat so it's easy to keep your house heated if it you do lose power in the winter (which has been twice this winter already). Glad you guys made it through!!

Glad your power and water came back on sooner than later. Years ago when it was freezing outside and we had no power it was hard trying to sleep. I took pillows and cushions from the couch and laid them on the floor next to the bed. Then took chairs and set them so we could put blankets over them and on top of the bed...basically making a small tent. This kept our body heat inside and when I checked the temp in the morning it was 38 degrees in the house and 78 degrees inside our " tent". Needless to say we stayed under our covers most of the weekend.
Snow can be melted for a little water as needed also.
Glad you're all doing ok and that you will be getting your fight necessities back. Take care, hugs from the old man.

Most of the United States is on a national electric grid which means that if a state loses power they can get some from neighboring states or even Canada. However Texas has its own power grid because it didn't want to have to comply with federal safety and cost requirements.

I live in England where we had a storm a few years ago that flooded hundreds of properties and half the shops in town.
It took a week for the power to get sorted and there are still empty shops that haven’t re-opened.
I’m a leader with the scouts and do a lot of camping so I had lots of equipment that I could share out, so we all had lights, we could cook and make hot drinks, and we could all stay warm.

NJ! Last few winters here have been extremely mild, but so far we have had so much snow this month alone, and the first one we got 16+ inches, and the week after we got 6 more inches! Be careful when dealing with snow, it may look fun to play in, but driving is a whole other story. Stay safe!

Julia, As I think you know I live in Mass. While we ARE used to snow and driving in it. It is NOT normal to be without power and water The worse that we had to deal with was an ICE storm that shut down power in my neighborhood for I think 3 days. (Stayed at a friends), I hope the power companies didn't gouge you.
    Hang in there. Jon

Snow has a way of messing things up, even in countries that are covered with it the whole winter. Loosing water and power though, thats pretty bad. The biggest problems we get here are people not being able to go to work safely and logistics problems until the major roads get cleared, which can take up to a few days (depending on the conditions) despite having a pretty significant snowplow fleet. I heard in some places in Finland and Iceland, they have heated roads 😳 must be nice to live in one of those first world countries 😂

I live about 40 miles south east from Chicago. While you were going through your storm, we got about 12 inches of snow on top of the foot of snow that was already on the ground. We also had temps below 30 degrees for at least 4 weeks. We have had highs in the 40's all week, and there is still snow on the ground. Through out all this, everything was business as normal.

It was the worst nightmare I ever lived through. Historic was the appropriate word for sure. It was insane. We did lose our power for about 30 hours and our house was around 40 when power was restored. To eat something warm again was refreshing. I did lose many things in my fridge I think most of my frozen things made it because of the extremely cold temps. I had insulated the outside pipes well but my kitchen and laundry pipes were a concern. One toilet froze but the other was okay until we lost our water but thank goodness it was only for about 6-8 hours and I did have bottles of water to drink. Glad you made it through the storm and Luna didn’t suffer cabin fever too much. She was so cute running in circles. My girls used to do that when they’d get really excited when were play sometimes.

I live in Calgary, Alberta. We get storms like you got several times a winter. (Sometimes in fall and spring too!). Two weeks ago we got 14 days of -25C highs and -35C lows. Last December just before Xmas we got a snowstorm that dropped 40cm (About 16 inches) of snow in a 24 hour period. So yeah, we're fairly well prepared for winter conditions.

I’m from Canada originally, but now live outside of Houston. We lost power and heat for over 48 hours and had to boil water for 6 days (I think? It’s all a blur 😂) It honestly wasn’t that cold (for me), but because Texas is so unprepared for the cold weather, it was a disaster 🤦🏻‍♀️ Hopefully they’ll learn from this and fix the power grid before it happens again

I live in Norway, so we're used to pretty severe winter weather. Thankfully I don't live up north where it's permanently dark for months on end and the temperatures can drop to -40C, but even here in the south we had around 3 weeks of -15 to -20C which was more than enough for me 😅
The electricity price skyrocketed during the cold spell, but thankfully our power stayed on and we had running water throughout it.

Living in Nebraska we can go from zero degrees to seventy in one day. Or we can mow our lawn one day and be shoveling six inches of snow the next. It is pretty crazy how the weather can change so dramatically in a short amount of time no matter where you live!

I live in WNY south of Buffalo NY and we get storms like that (or way worse) quite often. Schools stay open even if we get 12 inches of snow most times unless blowing and causing whiteouts. I totally get it why Dallas is having such a hard time with it with no snow fighting equipment. Glad you made it through that mess.

Hello Julia!! I have thought of you, and wondered how you were doing! I've watched all the news coverage about the snow storm in Texas, and it's quite a tragedy. I'm happy you have your electricity and water back!! We get snow and freezing rain up here in the Vancouver, WA-Portland, OR area once in a while. Not enough that people get good at driving in it, though. So, it turns into total mayhem on the roads!! Happy to hear you will soon get your Flight Attendant "stuff" back soon!! Take care and have a nice rest of your day!!

Yes, these storms are quite common here in Germany. As for power loss, I have been living in Germany for 20 years now and the longest we lost power has been 10 minutes. And at most our power has flickered maybe 3 times over 20 years. I think it helps greatly that power lines are mostly underground. Funny how quickly the weather can change, we went from a foot of snow and 8* to near 60* and sunny in 24 -36 hours. I prefer the latter. 😂
