So many years ago, I received her CD as a present, and was playing it endlessly, thinking how perfect “Folklore” was. I still think absolutely the same - Folklore is her best album!!
Such a moving, sad and beautiful song. One of Nelly's best songs imo and sadly it's so underrated. Unfortunately a lot of deep and meaningful songs are underrated.
+hexagon523 Yeah it's one of her best songs! I think it's based on a poem she wrote while she was a teenager... and it shows. This song just feels so raw and authentic.
The next album "Loose" was about something completely different, on the album "Loose" Nelly is a completely different person. I really like the album Folklore and the following album "Loose" was a disappointment of the year for me.
@@horvis1varnsdorf "Loose" was not a different person but a different aspect of Nelly that she hadn't musically explored commercially yet. I feel like there is always a bias about her having had "sold out" and worked with Timbaland and Danja. But before "Whoa, Nelly!" she had dabbled in trip-hop and spoken word, and even recorded with a few rappers. She participated in Honey Jam, too. So, "Loose" was totally appropriate to her persona. The only thing that wasn't so pleasant to her was the overwhelming success and exhausting fame that it brought her. But "Loose" was definitely part of Nelly Furtado's personality and I'm glad that she had recorded that album. I've been a huge fan since I heard "I'm Like a Bird" and I'm so glad that she's finally back in the studio to record a new album
I wish I could go back to the time when I watched this every single day on MTV here in Mexico. It was the fall of 2004. That fall and the following winter were so special to me.
It was her best, the high point. Her writing songs featuring real musicians in an organic setting producing REAL music. From here on out the studio forced co-writers to write "hits" for her, real musicians were ditched in favor of casio keyboards, she was paired with whatever "it" rapper was, and instead of personal almost intimate music like Folklore it became just disposable as-ran pop garbage. SAd.
Explode brings me the worst remembrances of my teenage years and its scars , pains and insecurity. Back then, it was the harbour of understanding and the instant painkiller. Today it is a monument of progress I did. I still feel the touch of the past... but hits differently. It's an acceptance of my past. And confirmation of my presence.
The pinnacle. Woah Nelly was pretty good, Folklore knocked it out of the park, then everything went to shit with Loose, out went musicians and Nelly's lyrics, in came casio keyboards and co-writers thrust onto her to write disposable hits. Folklore will always stand the test of time as her high watermark, a damn near flawless, timeless album that captured heart, passion, life, every album after purely just to make money.
Igual yo, sabes en el 2004 está canción pensé que sería una de las más pedidas pero no fue así. Para mí es una gran canción y fíjate ya estamos en el 2021
Folklore was, far and away, her best album. It featured actual musicians, it featured Nelly's lyrics, it featured a very real, almost emotionally vulnerable and self-aware Nelly. From every album after it was about trying to make her some pop sensation using "it" rappers and fucking casio keyboards without real musicians or talent. Also after Folklore the label stuck her with "writing partners" i.e. "hit factory" types that don't write emotional or heartfelt lyrics, just whatever maybe the radio wants during whatever is the thing in music for that year. Amazing album, it was all downhill from there.
Falar a verdade...essa musica é muito perfeita, ainda mais a parte do final "We're counting the stars, we're counting the stars,........" Amo Nelly forever
twenty years! For me, this music video was and still is Nelly's most beautiful music video and probably the best done among my top ten. Everything about it is perfect. Bradley Cayford produced, together with her, the deepest essence of the poetry inherent in the song's lyrics and translated it into simple, beautiful and accurate art. It's one of the things I miss about broadcast TV these days. At the time when this music video aired on MTV here in Brazil (when it was still broadcasting) I was amazed and even more in love with the singer. about the "script" of the video (if you can say so) I interpreted it as a symbolism that we all have to deal with the inescapable fact that life will give us options while we are still in our teenage years and making the right decisions and wrong ones, we define our destiny in life. Nelly from the cartoon will face the "forest creatures" that represent the challenges and opportunities of those who have had the great "luck and misfortune" of going ahead to pursue their own dream. in her case, her musical career. which, indeed, fortunately for her and for us, she was very successful. Thank you Nelly, for having worked with talents equal to her, at the level of her passion for what she does, presenting us with this wonderful and enchanting work.

Folklore is the most underrated Nelly Furtado album. It's my favorite, especially "One-Trick Pony" and "Island of Wonders".
Luchagor Happy to know i'm not the only one. These tracks are so full of emotion. This is my Autumn/Winter transition must have album.

Justice to Folklore.
It's her best work besides Loose. Both albums show the whole spectrum of her creativity.
The Ride is very good, too.
Explode was one of my favorite songs and 18 years later I feel very nostalgic thinking about this time ! ❤

This album was her soul...

Her best, it was downhill from there.

Escuchaba "folklore" completo a cada rato. Ahora que entiendo mejor las letras estoy feliz que forma parte de mi vida.
Oh man, I remember listening to this song when I was a kid.
I never thought I'd forget Nelly. She made such unique songs!
So... you forgot her? Her songs were awesome and sadly I just learned that she released new music in 2017 a couple of days ago... she still got it!
This is by far Nelly Furtado's best song ever...! a masterpiece!

Folklore is Nelly Furtado’s best album ever! Every single song is a classic masterpiece.

My favorite album of Nelly's and to be honest one of my favorite songs. This album was just brilliant.
This album was MAGIC.

Love how the song was created by a poem she wrote as a kid, amazing, this is why i love her
Folklore is probably Nelly Furtado’s most personal album ever!
It is the only one that counts as far as I am concerned.
This song is so good! everything, the music, the melody, the vocals. The lyrics are great, deep and smart at the same time.
Binge watching Nelly's videos because I miss her, hope she comes with a new album this year ♥️
Same 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Her last album (The Ride) was a flop so i think she's done with music.
"Folklore" is Nelly's magnum opus.
My favorites are "Explode", "One Trick Pony", "Childhood Dreams" and "Fresh Off The Boat".
"Childhood dreams" is a masterpice
2019 y aún sigo escuchando este álbum! El mejor de Nelly Furtado, marco mi adolescencia ✨

This is deep...
Vera's face burnt as a memory of bedroom fun
With a lighter and some hairspray
Smoking in the girls' room
Not worse than Shelley's rape behind the McDonald's
By a man she thought was fine, didn't tell anybody
Or maybe back then we just thought that she was getting some
Now we look back and see that she didn't know how
We never thought that we'd get caught up
Stuck in the teenage waste
As we explode
Then getting drunk in the bushes by the road outside the Kmart
Rolling around in them to see if you would get prickled slip the acid on your tongue rooftop mall parkade
We couldn't get enough
Then count the stars and the ten million woes
Just you and the universe judging each other
We never knew that we'd get caught up
Stuck in the teenage waste
As we explode
As we let go
It's a fight, it's a fight and you finally belong
Got a shiner now and it's more than a battle scar
More than a battle scar, such a good, good story to tell
At lunch break, lunch break, lunch break, lunch break
Such a good, good story to tell
You bully, you break, you bully, you break
You fake, you fake, you fake, you fake
You smoke, you toke, you want, you flaunt, you hit it and you're in it and it's spinning
And it's wild
We never thought that we'd get caught up
Stuck in the teenage waste
As we explode
As we let go
We're counting the stars
We're gonna go far, we're gonna go far
We're counting the stars,
We're not very far, we're not very far
And it's you and me in the open air
It's truth or dare, we don't care
We're counting the stars
