This brought back memories to me,II was based in Malta, RAF Luqa, Jan.1961-July 1963.I loved my time there and I've never been back, until now, I'm booked into a hotel in Sliema in March/April 2014 and I'm really looking forward to returning. Thank you, Ian Raymond.
Images of a Malta I was there as a British dependant in 1963-1966. Wonderful place I was so happy there as a child. Went back there as an adult with my wife in the 1990s pretty run down, but people and places I knew were still charming.
Thanks Edgar for this collage. I was just a boy in 1960 and stayed just under 2 years. Memories keep vivid in my mind so maybe i should revisit the places.
I recognise the Gillieru in St Pauls bay and the now derelict hotel at Golden bay but I was only a young boy when my family served at Kalafrana and Hal Far with the fleet air arm. I was born at Mtarfa so even though my parents are English I guess I`m part Maltese
@kampanjol469 You are right about the picture showing at 2:00mins ...it should be flipped horizontally infact. The place is Msida Creek and was photographed from the back gardens of the Phoenicia Hotel. Thanks for your interest ...regards ..Edgar
Great work Ed,Just returned from Malta, cant wait to go back,What is the Music Ed?.Have you any stills of the Gut in it,s heyday .Thanks again Ed.and Sacha (Hope that I spelt it right!).
I wish I had been able to visit Malta in the sixties, my first visit was 1988. I have returned many times. We were going to buy an apartment in Mellieha until tragedy hit my family. The Island has changed so much over the years, sadly not all for the better. is Vella a well known name on Malta? we know some people with the same Surname, they are originally from Malta.
yes you're right Dave and thanks for telling me about it....the originals were slides which I photographed myself in the 60's ...funny how I did not notice it was flipped :-) regards...Edgar
I would like to know if you have a photo of marsamxett bastion the old part that knoked out and build in flates I think it was in the early fifthes. If anyone have it PLEASE PUT IT ON. THANK YOU Carmen Farrugia
Hi there, we've been enjoying seeing this old view of Malta, (especially as we film 4k walks and have just filmed Malta today), it's good to see it has faired well and become European capital of culture, thank you for taking the time to add this. Perhaps we could subscribe to each other and share more?
