  • Full Western Movie, Full Length Cowboy Film, English, 1958: From Hell to Texas (original title), Runtime 1h 40min, Western.
    From Hell to Texas is a 1958 film directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Don Murray and Diane Varsi. The supporting cast features Chill Wills and Dennis Hopper. It is based on the novel, The Hell-Bent Kid, by Charles O. Locke.
    When ranch hand Tod Lohman accidentally kills the son of a powerful rancher, he panics and flees, but the rancher and his
    vengeful crew hunt Tod down.
    Director: Henry Hathaway
    Writers: Robert Buckner (screenplay), Wendell Mayes (screenplay)
    Stars: Don Murray, Diane Varsi, Chill Wills
    PLOT / WIKIPEDIA: Tod Lohman is on the run from a posse. The ruthless land baron Hunter Boyd has sent men, including sons Otis and Tom, in pursuit of Tod for having killed another son. Otis Boyd stampedes horses toward Tod, but gunshots drive them in the opposite direction and Otis is trampled instead. Tod then gets the drop on Tom Boyd and insists he did not kill their brother, but before Tod can leave, Tom Boyd shoots his horse. On foot, Tod collapses near a river bank. He is found by kindly rancher Amos Bradley and daughter Juanita, who provide food and shelter. Juanita takes a liking to Tod, who is searching for his missing father and was brought up with Biblical lessons and principles by his mother. Tod departs but is soon surrounded by Hunter Boyd and his men. In gratitude for not shooting Tom Boyd when he had the chance, Hunter Boyd permits a horse and a four-hour headstart to Tod, then resumes the chase. Tod discovers that his father has died. A member of the posse shoots old man Bradley, which proves the last straw for Tod after having tried to turn the other cheek. But during a gun battle in town, Tom Boyd is engulfed by flames after a chandelier's crash. Tod's instincts take over. He saves the life of Tom, whose appreciative father Hunter finally calls off the feud.

    My eldest brother was born in a log Cabin in Bozeman Montana in dead of winter, Father was logging, I was born Southern Oregon Coast. My Aunt was a country western singer. We would sit once a week around an old tube radio listening to the old radio shows. One day Father came home with an old tube TV. Four long legs holding it up, 1 channel, we were thrilled as we began our journey to witness the world with Walter Cronkite with the evening news. Still today I often bring up an old radio program and remember sitting with my Mom and Dad, older Brothers in dimly lit room listening intently to every word of the story being told. Once a week Dad would give us a handful of tubes to take to the hardware store to test on the tester, replacing the bad ones.
    How many of us can remember those days? "Only The Shadow Knows" 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

    This is one of the most underrated oaters of all time. Don Murray is superb and well supported by Hopper and Varsi. If DM had been a bigger name it would have reaped as much attention as some of the Ford and Mann westerns. I've been watching westerns seriously since '59 (starting with The Horse Soldiers) and I'd put it in the top ten of all time. I know "expert" film buffs who've never heard of it. Henry Hathaway knew how to film outdoors as well as anyone. How about Nevada Smith, for another example? Or How The West Was Won or True grit.

    The cinematography in this film is first rate! And the acting is spot on as well. These westerns always did best when they worked from a work of fiction because you have more "wiggleroom" and poetic license. When they make
    a film and try to base it upon historical events the likelihood for inconsistencies
    to arise is a strong probability. And frequently not enough attention to detail is given to the set design or something about the location is all wrong. This film has just about all of the earmarks of a great period western film.

    • @Truly1Tom
      @Truly1Tom 5 лет назад +3

      @ 45:00min is he serious?! In wild country on the dodge from a vigilante posse you are going to need to be able to move fast and without stopping and that means to not wear out your horse flesh and your going to put down an extra horse?! That's one flub I know wasn't in the book! And being mobile without having to stop and rest your horse is a huge thing historically speaking when your being pursued!

    • @Truly1Tom
      @Truly1Tom 5 лет назад +4

      @ 45:30 saying I don't get what he's doing is an understatement and I know more than a little about horsemanship and it wouldn't hurt that horse a bit to have the extra saddle and bridle on him. When your trying to move across wilderness and do it quickly with horses you take extra horses with you. And in this scenario your all setup and your going to waste time by having to switch your tack from one mount to another? This is the part I know is a bad peyote trip or the character is
      supposed to be "touched" by being out in the sun too long!

    • @Truly1Tom
      @Truly1Tom 5 лет назад +3

      @ 1:15:29 the Boyd family in this film portrayed by very capable actors are seemingly bound and determined to commit suicide by voluntary manslaughter
      which hasn't worked out too well so far!

    Solidnie zrobiony western.Stare klasyki bez efektów komputerowych.Amerykanie byli mistrzami w kręceniu tego gatunku.Ciekawy scenariusz (chyba na podstawie powieści), Oczywiście piękna muzyka krajobrazy,wątek miłosny.W tamtych czasach gdy leciały westerny na srebrnym ekranie (byłem nastolatkiem),lektorem zawsze był Jan Suzin i Lucjan Szołajski.Szkoda żenię ma pl napisów,przy moim koślawym angielskim.Dzięki Grjngo za wrzutkę👍.Zachęcam do obejrzenia(recommended viewing)

      From this American I'm very glad that you enjoyed this movie I'm intrigued that a continental Indian would enjoy the American Western movie genre. Do American Westerns have a wide following in India?; I also wonder if you appreciated it because it was devoid of vulgar language (cursing) and nasty sexual overtones. To me, as a Christian it displayed Christian overtones. I must add that I've had close friendships with one man and another unrelated continental Indians and their moral values were on par with Christian ones in how they conducted and presented themselves in everyday life!
      Peace and blessings to you, Jim

    Very entertaining film.
    Really enjoyed watching.
    Socorro and Magdalena are both towns in New Mexico that were mentioned in the movie but the scenery did not look familiar to that area?
    Could have been filmed elsewhere I suppose.
    Thank you very much for the upload.

      I recognized the area immediately. Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, Ca. Bishop Ca and the Owens river.
      You can tell by the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background.
      This is where 80% of old Hollywood westerns were filmed anyway. Alabama Hills.
