- Ever wonder what the trail ruins would like like in real life? In this episode I attempt to show you what the ruins would look like if I were to come across them on survey in the real world. Because building degradation is so variable, this isn't the end all be all of what the ruins would look like. Matter of fact if I did it again id probably make the walls of the buildings a little more pronounced and less dispersed.

(for all you Arch types out there watching this)
I am a professional archaeologist with many years worth of field work under my belt in the American Southwest. The information presented here is based on my professional and academic experiences. Not all archaeology is done the same everywhere and, as such, experiences differ. The information here is overly simplified and presented as a form of entertainment with the intent to lightly educate as well.
I guess what I'm saying is: if you're an archaeologist watching this, this is just for fun, don't be a jerk.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, the trail ruins as they appear normally in-game are more like if the place was only abandoned for a few decades or so before a volcano erupted and buried them in ash like Pompeii and Herculaneum, preventing further deterioration.
Oh wow, the finished product actually has a certain kind of beauty to it. Very cool. That would be a cool addition to the outskirts of a village in a survival world. Excellent episode!!
Unglamour is so unfavorable - it's actually still really beautiful in its 'natural' state - it's the sort of place that would arouse my curiosity if I stumbled across it, and prompt me to contact a local university's archaeology department to find out more about it, and make sure it's a site they're aware of.
I would be so excited if I was in Minecraft and stumbled upon this kind of trail ruin
This is how ruins are made in real life, a guy destroys them to his liking and puts dirt on it
They should have consulted a few archeologists before implementing these. That way they could at least get the right landscape generation if they weren’t going to properly ruin the ruins. Though I think it would be apt to have a few skeletons or zombies trapped in the ruins when you dig them up. There had to be a reason they are ‘ruins’ after all.
It's actually quite pretty in it's 'unglamorous' stage. I'd probably want to build my outpost near by to to have such a unique mound / geographic feature near by.
Trail all over the place!
Now I'm curious how it'd all look excavated in it's realistic state. That's probably what you're planning to do with the second one tho.
yes that is closer to what I've seen IRL, except where I live the ruins are from between the French and Indian war to the end of the steam train era and also pushed apart by trees in the deeper wooded areas. At least the stuff that isn't modern (early mid 1900's to now) or abandoned. Here you can also use the size of the trees to tell if it's an old relic or something in the last decade.
So, anyone want to wildly speculate about which park Daskalos lives near?
I like the way of thinking
It would be cool if Mojang also made something like this, calling “decayed trail ruins” or something
These videos finally made me download Minecraft again when I haven't played in over 10 years. I love the updates
NGL I am almost glad Milo fucked up in his video. RUclips never would've shown me your channel but I am OBSESSED. (It is also a shame youtube wouldn't show me your channel because I love minecraft, learning new things, and I think archeology is rad af.)
Ahh, good ole rubble mounds. We love suspicious lumps of dirt and rock.

Love your vids daskalos. I'm a poli-sci major who is about to graduate, but I've always been interested in the HISTORY of politics more than the present lol. Your videos inspire me to refocus myself a little bit when I go for my masters.
Fascinating stuff, I love it!
amazing vid as always!! LOVE the final product i think it’s so natural
