Velcro style command strips. They’re about $4 at Target for four sets. I took the suction cups off my V1 and stuck one to that mount, then attached the other side above my rear view mirror. I can still switch out detectors if I ever want to and has been pretty secure so far.
The least expensive option is to remove the suction cups from the oem mount and add some 3M double sided Super Strength Molding tape(Walmart $5) to make your own "permanent" mount. I did this for my R3 and it's mounted high on my windshield and tight to the headliner. I also have a Blendmount for when my passenger needs to use the sun visor. The Blendmount is well worth its price IMO and their customer service is top notch.
I have a Tesla model Y and a R3, I went with a cell phone clamp holder. Mounted it behind the center screen and the arm extends just above the screen itself. It is in easy reach and sight. Has a good sight line in front of the car. Saw this on RUclips and I love it. Use to have a BlendMount but they said they don’t have a great solution for a Tesla yet.
Hint - use a old bike tire tube - wrap around the mount. Will stop the mount from biting into the mirror tube. Thank you for the video. Hope the family and you are doing well. Spin
I've been using the stealth pouch visor mount for my R3 with a hardwired mute switch and I'm loving it! It's mounted in an suv so no issues with visibility or detector pointing up or down. Great video!
I went and bought a blend mount attachment for my golf R Because of this video. I’m posting this comment because I live in Canada and just received a phone call from blend mount in the USA to verify whether or not my mirror was right. That’s right everybody a representative from that company actually took the time to phone me to make sure the order was correct, this absolutely blows my mind never in my time of ordering things online has anybody cared enough to do something like that. I still haven’t received the product but the customer service is insanely good.
Thank you so much Vortex Radar. Just ordered a Uniden R4, cant wait to get it in. The way I mount my radar detectors, I have a dashboard cover and it acts as one side of a Velcro fastener. So I just stick the other compatible side to the bottom of the radar detector and rest it on the cover. My dash is pretty flat, so I am in good shape. If it is not flat like mine, you can just put a small piece of wood under the cover to level it out. Anyhow thanks again and I am getting excited. PS, I am upgrading from an old Whistler 78se. Talk about old. :)
Great content! I'm a big fan of BlendMount's products. Especially paired with their MirrorTap for power. I have one in each of our cars. And MirrorTaps in two of our cars.
I have mounted my RD's on the dash with velcro, visor, suction cups and last year removed suction cups and mounted bracket with gorilla tape low on windshield. Haven't mounted on a mirror before. Might try it 👍
For sharp corners like on the cheaper Amazon/eBay mounts, a belt sander or hand file knocks those off pretty quick since most are aluminum. Then just slap a little flat black rattle can paint on them to cover it up. That being said, I've got 2 Blendmounts and they're great.
It's a shame the Blend Mount is astronomically expensive now ..like over $200 CAD shipped, with the wiretap kit for the mirror. Insane. Definitely went with the RadarMount for only $70 shipped.
The intense sun in Arizona almost mandates a visor mount, which backs it away from the glass. Fortunately I have no friends, thus no passengers, so the right visor works quite well. The friction of the visor swivel allows a level straight ahead view. Using the JBV1 app with the V1Gen2 eliminates the problems of reaching the detector. Have also noticed a very impressive rear sensitivity range using the passenger visor. Thanks for these very informative and entertaining videos.
Blendmount is priced (before tax) between $115 and $240. At this price , it could have been machined from a solid a aluminum and covered in radar absorbing diamonds for all I care but I am not buying it. How about an update to this video for more cost effect mirror mounts.
Love your videos. Just purchased the blendmount used for my audi rs3. Looks like you have the same rearview mirror in you audi. Can you tell me with the mirror tap which color plugs you used? Thanks!
I, like many, kicked & screamed about the cost of the Blend Mount, but finally bit the bullet after the frustration of my suction cups falling. Upon getting it, I realized it was specifically engineered to fit my vehicle that had no mirror stem for a generic style clamp mount (C6 Corvette), so the price on that one did make a bit more sense... development cost along with lower volume sales. With the mirror harness tap, it is very clean... almost looking like it's OEM. I guess the only question that counts is... would I buy it again? Definitely.
Yeah I totally hear you. High end, low volume, niche products like the Blendmount are going to cost more. I use the custom one for my Q5 as well now and am really happy with it. It's expensive, yes, even more than the normal Blendmount, but it's worth it.
I like the mirror mount. It’s just far enough back from the windshield to be slightly stealthy. Easy to reach for muting, and the detector is centered-ish in the windshield as the manufacturer recommends.
I have an R7. I bought some commerical grade Velcro and I put some on the R7 and on the bottom of my mirror. Doesn't fall off and does not vibrate. Cost $5. Blendmount leaves too much of a gap for me between the mirror and the detector.
I have a 2021 Audi A8L and recently bought a Escort MAXcam 360c. I have owned many previous versions of Escort. The suction cups rather than a previously offered "bean bag" styled dash mat are a real pain. I have had a 360c for years but quit using it after ordering a couple of replacement suction cups every time the suction cup failed. I lived in Florida most of that time. Having seen the MAXcam 360c with the same very unsatisfactory suction cup, I was about to send my unit back when I saw your videos on Blendmount and other alternatives. However, when I entered my vehicle data and referenced the MAXcam 360c, the literature indicates caution is needed in vehicles like mine with "smart cruise control, crash avoidance or lane departure system". It does not look difficult to install the Blendmount as shown in your video and you have an Audi. Have you had any issues using that mount?
: I'm using the mid mount location with the rear view mirror mount. Can I turn the detector slightly to the left so I can see the panel a little better? I have the Uniden R4.
Wow! Nice! You covered very much all the Pros & Cons on each style of mounts. For me, I am picky, Definitely No sun visor mount; No dash mount for the same exact reasons as you; No windshield & rear view mirror mounts either in addition to reasons you have listed plus to avoid extended sun/heat exposure and for anti-theft (mounts that are with easy radar-detector removal ability still stays in place visible from the outside which is an easy give away that there is most likely a radar detector stored inside the vehicle), so I always custom make my own mounts (much more time spent I know, but its a bit of hobby).
I used the Blendmount in my C6 Corvette, but I have had no issues using the Radar Mirror Mount in my Infiniti G37S or GMC Sierra with my Uniden R3 and R7 detectors.
Thanks for the amazing job you do reviewing RDs and mounting options (for auto applications). Moving an older Adaptive TPX 2.0 to my new street bike and was wondering what other options are available. Really like the look of the Radenso DS1 by the way. Would really love to see your take on getting some of the newer, more sophisticated units mounted to a motorcycle and then getting the warnings to the helmet via some of the latest apps and BT communicators. Blendmount worked great for a minute on my F-150 but then caused a bunch of slop/wobble in the mirror due to the weight / leverage of the RD hanging off the mirror. Might not be an issue with other car companies stuff, but it created problems on my F-150
Yes, I went back to using a suction mount on the windshield. To be clear, the blendmount hardware itself was fine, it was the Ford mirror setup that couldn't stay snug. @@22685brandon

I got the Radar mount www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2M9K11/ and it works perfectly with my R7. Not as slick as the Blend mount but easy removal and installation of the detector and fit well on my Passat's awkward mirror.

Why would you want to mount the radar detector to the car dash? For one it looks tacky, two you're inviting would be thieves because its right there in plain view sight and three why messing up that nice dash by mounting the radar detector with double sided sticky tape or Velcro and if you ever take the radar detector off for some reason you leave that sticky residue which may not be easy to clean off leaving a permanent stain or mark that will never come off depending on how long that radar detector was mounted to the dash,

I got the Radar mount www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2M9K11/ and it works perfectly with my R7. Not as slick as the Blend mount but easy removal and installation of the detector and fit well on my Passat's awkward mirror.
In my 95 Impala SS I have a BlendMount with a MirrorTap running a V1G2 and a Escort M1. Works great and is very clean and slick Mount and power solution!
(Video is before I got the M1)

Why would you want to mount the radar detector to the car dash? For one it looks tacky, two you're inviting would be thieves because its right there in plain view sight and three why messing up that nice dash by mounting the radar detector with double sided sticky tape or Velcro and if you ever take the radar detector off for some reason you leave that sticky residue which may not be easy to clean off leaving a permanent stain or mark that will never come off depending on how long that radar detector was mounted to the dash,
Well I just found out that they are not taking old v1s due to a ship shortage plus the call center was snobby
Also, illegal in alot of states to "hang" things from your review mirror.
Really? In what states? I hadn’t heard about that.
@@VortexRadarIn the State of Connecticut it is illegal to hang items from your rearview mirror including handicap signs ect...so it impedes your view or distracts other motorists. Officers don't enforce it too much that I know of but it is a law.
