I , personally, really like the video format for the Monday broadcast...... My husband (Jack) and I thought your compilation video of the Netherland region and particularly of Amsterdam was fabulous...it brought back so many memories of when we did a barge and bike tour there. and past trips where we visited those two museums........Siamo canadese... Mi chiamo "Arlene". Mark, grazie mille per tutto quello fai per migliorare i miei studi di italiano!!

My grandmother used to tell this tale--with relish. She was born in NYC, but knew English, Italian, and Arberesh. But when she was in her late teens, she was on a trolley in Brooklyn, NY, with her cousin. Two women of similar age got onto the trolley and began speaking about the cousin's dress, in Arberesh. They assumed no one understood them and were pretty well trashing the outfit. But my grandmother and cousin said nothing, until they got to their stop. Only then did they say to the woman, in Arberesh of course, "You'd better be careful. More people understand you than you know." BTW, if there is ever a plan for Cofffee Break Arberesh, I'd like to be the first to know! ;)

Glad I discovered Coffee Break Spanish Podcast on October 29, 2020. October 29, 2022 will be two years since then. Amazing how time flies.

I spent a year in Germany. After returning to the US, I overheard two customers at my job speaking German and just listened as they talked about the shopping they were doing. One asked the other what time it was. I gave myself away by looking at my watch!

I eavesdrop when people are speaking Spanish all the time! Not that I understand it a lot but I think listening to it helps. I try to get a basic understanding of the context of their conversation.

Totaal mooie video's, Mark! I was in Amsterdam the weekend before last, and it was even longer for me since I was there as it was my first visit in nearly 20 years! Yes, all bar/café/restaurant staff did have great English that they were only too happy to show off. And it is indeed a cosmopolitan city, so because I'm not great at approaching people or in-person I did find myself eavesdropping in crowds and queues and on public transport. I heard lots of languages spoken, and started to get a feel for the intonation of Dutch after a couple of days. I also just moved to North West Wales, so I try to overhear Welsh conversations and see how many words I can recognise here too.

Hahaha buona domanda.... Yes I eavesdroped all the time by accident .... there were a group of Italians on the bus I was on once, and the gentleman was talking to his partner who had just had a newborn baby and they were discussing how cute the baby was and if she needed anything from them at the hospital. Accents are really interesting to me
Also got to speak some Italian to some customer's yesterday as I work at Amorino in Soho London (well my last week is next week) but I have had a few good chances to slip it in, stammering or not I try so I'm chuffed for that! Been hearing so many different speeds of Italian which is really fascinating. When it's too fast I can't understand but I can appreciate that the person ia going 10 to the dozen haha 😂
It's weird how even when your learning your ears home in on the language your learning I find it really interesting 🥰
Have a great rest of your trip in Amsterdam. Hoping to visit one day! A presto Mark ciao!

I eavesdrop on Spanish conversations every chance I get. I usually try to understand and focus on at least catching the words even if I don’t know the meaning.

hello I'm in holiday in Spain and I try to Ieavesdrope the people in Spanish I understand a little. But with the English people, it's not easy I write but I don't speak a lot. I feel that I learned another language.

I always try eavesdropping on spanish conversation but I only pick up few words , not the whole concept and it makes me disappointed with myself ☹️

Try to focus instead on the rhythm of the language, rather than the words themselves. If you can start to recreate this rhythm when you speak in Spanish, even slowly at first, it will help you sound more authentic!
