This is the best , most intelligent , almost surreal teaching of how to read the Bible , that I've ever heard , read , or watched. Thank you Pastor David , for helping us all to know how , and how not to read God's Word. ✝️

Thank you for the suggestion to read the Bible with a one sentence summary of each chapter. Thank God for you! 💜

Pastor David this is so applicable and especially with all the distractions going on today as we’re seeing so many of God's promises and prophecies happening all around us. We need to be in the Word of God more now than ever… Thanks brother David. Greg

I really enjoy your bible commentary. It’s what brought me here. I just finished Nehemiah 8 & took notes:
“The Holy Spirit uses gifted teachers to bring spiritual discernment to us, helping us to understand what God’s word says.”
“Teachers help us understand it all in our own day.”
“Our minds are often slow to understand things that will convict our hearts. We often need it spelled right out to us.”

When I read the bible It is the first thing in my day, before I get distracted and I pray before and after for God to speak to me through his word, so that I may apply it to that day.

Wonderful, these are excellent practices. I recommend the journaling idea mentioned as well - to write a short summary for each passage, helping to develop stronger understanding and associations with the text.

I’ve always heard that teaching someone else what you’re learning is the best way to know if you understood what you read.

I know things change from generation to generation, but I couldn’t imagine my primary reading of the Word being on a phone or tablet.
There’s just something about the feel of holding it in your hands, turning that page, and mostly because the Word is the ONLY thing that Bible is used for.
There’s a whole different feeling inside when you reach for the Bible and pick it up vs your device that you use throughout the day for so many different things.
Whenever I buy a new Bible, I like to do so in person because there’s a certain way I like it to feel in my hands.
    I too read out loud.

Thank you David so much for all these helpful suggestions.
My suggestion on One Year Bible plans - Ignore the dates. That way if you miss a day you will be less likely to give up. There is nothing sacred about starting these on New Year Day. In fact if we treat it as a New Year Resolution, we will likely drop it quickly. Start the plan when God prompts you to start. Do it at the pace that works for you and allow yourself to go on Bible rabbit trails without the fear of not having time to keep up with the plan. By the way David. I LOVE your Bible commentary. It enriches my Bible study. Thank you for allowing God to use you in this way.

In my almost 50 years as a Christian, I have yet to find one pastor in person or on line, who has been willing to accept they're wrong about anything when it is pointed out clearly from the Bible. Plenty of lay people yes, including when I am wrong and admit it, but never a pastor. No matter how respectfully, thoroughly or patiently shown they're wrong; they never change their mind when a layman does so.

23:15 "Jesus Calling" I'm cleaning my house as I listen, I heard that, raced to my bookshelf, yep! I inherited a whole ton of books from my grandpa and mum, and have been trying to find one (of about 15 lol) devotionals to use. Jesus is calling was...creepy and unsettling. I felt very uncomfortable reading it, and ended up putting it off to the point I just didn't anymore. Finally found one now that is Christ focus, but wow, yea.

I have tried memorizing the scripture severally but it doesn't work for me...instead i try to get acquainted with a particular verse or passage and re-read it until i drill it down to inner self...
So i rarely quote words for words but i paraphrase according to my understanding and its refreshing for me. Maybe I'm just weird though or its a stage of my learning.

I have been a christian for more than 50 years and reading from cover to cover can start to feel like drone mode.So from time to time I change things up, read all the gospels at the same tome e.g reading the different accounts on after the other.Rather than the individual gospels one after the other. Each gospel account is the same story, but from another angle. Reading say, Jeremiah but read it alongside the accounts in Kings and Chronicles. Same with Isaiah, the are events recorded on Kings and Chronicles that give you another perspective of the problems that the prophets were up against. Read all the restoration of the temple books together.
When you read the Jesus's mother nd brothers were outside, looking for him find out what the names of the brothers were. And in another place it mentions sisters too. But where are they?
When Paul mentions the men who went along with him, try to find out more ..Can I recommend an excellent commentary buy someone called David Guzik?; D

    • @DavidGuzikEnduringWord
      @DavidGuzikEnduringWord  8 месяцев назад +1

Well said! It's often a tough read to go through the many generational records, but there is of course value in these sections as well - if not only as historical artifacts in evidence of real people living real lives in real time and space, then also as the encouraging remembrance for the significance each individual person has in the ongoing, unfolding plan of ages.
But also, the simple fact that each name is usually so obscure to our modern ears is often enough reason to discourage an enthusiastic reading!

I always enjoy and learn from your teaching you explain everything that makes the Bible understandable which is great.
I would like to say today my fault not yours at all but perhaps you or your lovely people could point me in the right direction
You began speaking about romantic relationships and a relationship with Jesus etc and I felt inadequate and unworthy maybe I’m not really saved because I can’t and don’t have that experience in fact for me thinking in those terms makes me feel so unclean and immoral.
The reason I guess, at 65 with CPTSD from a violent abusive home life and two marriages both serious DV, I got saved many years ago or am I if God doesn’t speak to me in the way I hear others say nor as I said feel this romantic relationship it just feels wrong.
There must be others even in your congregations that have been through bad lives but the church never considers the delicate nature when preaching or teaching.
Sorry this is long tho I would be interested in your thoughts
    God Bless You

Yes, after I was born again I was handed a Jesus calling devotional the same day and I read it straight through for two years. My Christian walk has honestly never not been shaky though I've read the bible through twice. But I wouldn't give a new believer that book. Maybe just a little book that only had scriptures. Something more seemingly manageable

Acts 17 tells one how to read the Bible... 😉
"Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."...
    Full context..
Acts Chapter 17:10-13 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. 13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

Hi David hope you are well when I watch movies and TV you can tell that they have knowledge of Bible stories and are a parable or have taken the stories to make all types of situations and narratives but after reading the Bible you know there rio offs or diversions the Bible came first ❤️
