'Beethoven First' was commissioned by the La Folle Journée Festival (Nantes, France) for the 2020 festival dedicated to Ludwig van Beetchoven. The composition is based on the themes of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. While working on the material of the second part of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. I found that it captivates not only thanks to its unforgettable melody, but also largely due to the rhythmic formula on which it's based, - one of the most used since Ancient Greece. I tested the readiness of the famous theme to change structurally and rhythmically, and this turned out to be the most fascinating in the work. Nowadays it is impossible to work on Beethoven material too seriously, since the author has already worked on it more than strictly, so I ventured to add a little French passion to Beethoven solidity, as well as a bit of Russian sensuality.
Оркестровая пьеса Ольги Викторовой «В начале был Бетховен» (‘Beethoven First’) заказана фестивалем La Folle Journée (Nantes, France) к фестивалю 2020 года, посвященному великому немецкому гению. Название произведения отсылает нас к первой строке Евангелия от Иоанна «В начале было Слово, и Слово было у Бога, и Слово было Бог». В мире музыки Бетховен, действительно, символизирует начало новой эпохи, знаменующейся появлением нового типа тематизма, формы, оркестровки. Вместе с тем, в наши дни невозможно работать над бетховенским материалом слишком серьёзно. Бетховен уже поработал над ним более, чем всерьёз. Поэтому в пьесе «В начале был Бетховен» кроме бетховенской основательности вы обнаружите немного французской страстности, а также толику российской чувственности.
