  • The Coming of Age (成人の日), which is held annually on the second Monday of January, is the ideal opportunity to admire beautiful japanese girls and their kimonos. Here at a famous spot in Tokyo : the Meiji Jingu shrine near Harajuku, Shibuya city.
In Japan, the coming of age, or Seijin no Hi ((成人の日), marks a significant milestone as young individuals celebrate turning 20 and officially becoming adults. This momentous occasion is often celebrated on the second Monday of January. While customs and celebrations have evolved over time, certain traditions remain.
For many young women, this transition into adulthood is often symbolized by the donning of a traditional kimono. The elaborate and elegant kimono serves as more than just attire-it's a symbol of heritage, cultural pride, and the journey into maturity. Girls wearing kimono during Seijin no Hi exude grace and sophistication, reflecting the solemnity and significance of this rite of passage.
The day typically begins with a formal ceremony or gathering at local government offices or shrines, where speeches are made, emphasizing the responsibilities and privileges of adulthood. Following the formalities, celebrants often engage in photo sessions with family and friends, capturing the essence of this important day in their lives.
After the ceremonies, many young adults, particularly young women dressed in their colorful and meticulously arranged kimonos, continue the celebrations by visiting popular landmarks, enjoying traditional tea ceremonies, or participating in festivities with friends. It's a day marked by joyous celebrations, symbolic gestures, and the recognition of newfound responsibilities as contributing members of society.
The sight of young women adorned in intricately designed kimonos during Seijin no Hi is a testament to the reverence for tradition and the beauty of cultural heritage in Japan. It's a visual and symbolic representation of the transition from adolescence to adulthood, encapsulating the grace, poise, and honor associated with this significant milestone.
This was shot with my Canon R6, handheld, with a 24-240mm lens and a RODE VideoMic NTG. I've given up on the Gimball and Ninja recorder. It's just too heavy to carry around and not flexible enough for quick point and shoots. Simple setup is good enough for RUclips.
