A couple years ago my apartment closed the laundry room. So I started picking up portable washers and testing how they work. Ending up with a Magic Chef 0.9, a Magic Chef 1.6, a Panda 1.38 and finally upgrading to this RCA 3.0 cu ft. I am keeping the Magic Chef 1.6 and the RCA 3.0 as they have the same internal components. The newer models, (Panda and RCA 3.0 cu ft) have the same issue. The normal wash does not fill rinse cycle completely. However the water level is higher from the factory. Other wash cycles work fine. The older models (Magic Chef 0.9 and 1.6) had water levels set low. After I adjusted water levels, (Turn water level sensor 1 full turn clockwise) the washers worked great. My guess is this was done to qualify as a HE-high efficiency washer. Water hookups: Easiest way to hook up to faucet is to get a 3/4 adapter and just screw it on especially if you have a cheap plastic faucet. The quick connect puts a lot of stress on the faucet. Depending on your Faucet GPM it takes a while to fill the washer. I ended up getting a 8 foot dishwasher hookup and installed a split T 3/8" Y adapter valve at the cold water source under the sink. I just wash with cold water works for me. I was surprised how quickly the washers filled connected straight to the valve. Well worth the cost. RCA 3.0 rinse/spin issue: First thing I noticed was the spin operated differently than smaller washers. Determined this is by design due to the extra centrifugal forces generated with the larger mass that is spinning around. The 3.0 is louder than the others due to the amount of water and laundry sloshing around. Washer usage: I use them as semi automatic. I turn the washer on select cold water and fill setting, Lg, Med, Small. Start the washer it fills up and starts washing, I let it go for 10 minutes or so, and while the washer is still full of water, I turn off washer. Let clothes soak if necessary, then turn washer back on and set to quick wash. It washes for 5 mins, rinses for 5 mins, spins for 5 mins. I then select spin only which runs for 28 mins. Clothes are hang dry within 10 or so minutes. For the smaller washers with larger items like jeans and towels, You can wash more items than the machine can spin. So for example wash 4 towels in small washer I remove two of them for spin. Which Size to get? I upgraded to the 3.0 so I could do my Queen Size comforters and wash once or twice instead of two or three times with the 1.6. I used the 0.9 and the 1.38 to do sheets and stuff or when I have smalle
Thanks for this eazy and quick review. I currently have the 0.9 cu ft washer, I love it its been great during the pandemic, yet I agree the larger unit will allow me to complete more Landry and larger thicker items. Thanks again for your great review.
Thank you for the review! I bought a used 2.1 and realized the tub filter was missing. It uses the 1.6 version. Now I can buy the right size! It was hard to tell on the magic chef website because there was no product overview about the filter kit.
Thanks for the great video! Do you think the 1.6 is sufficient for two or three people? Also, now that you have had the 1.6 machine for a while, how often, if ever, do you remove and clean the pump's filter located at the back of the machine? Does that filter get really clogged up? I am thinking of buying this for some apartments I own, but I don't know that I want the Tenants having to deal with removing/cleaning the pump's filter. What do you think of the 2.0 versus the 1.6? Does it really hold that much more clothing than the 1.6? How many people do you think the 2.0 is appropriate for? What's the interior cubic feet of your dryer and does it do a good job drying a FULL load from your 2.0 model? Thanks again!
We currently own the 2.0. I feel like its a significant difference in space. I wash laundry for my family of 6 in batches. My three older kids i would split their clothes into two washes. My dryer i believe is a 3.0cu ft. Listed as 13.2lb capacity dryer. It can take 1.5hrs more or less to dry a batch depending on material and how much i put into the dryer. Most of the time we hang dry only or toss it in for an air fluff. As for the pump filter i have yet to wash anything heavily soiled so we dont get major build up. I've gone three months or more before because i was pregnant and it was cleaner than i thought.
Amazingly helpful! Been looking for someone to show cleaning out the pump! I️ didnt know I️ needed a towel so the first time I opened it so lots of water came gushing and I️ panicked. Lmao. Thank you for easing my heart and mind!
I'm sorry that you have to apologize for your kids being kids. If anyone complains just ignore that noise! Besides I loved the happy laugh squeal super cute
1.42 and 2.05 You mention about the detergent dispensers where the liquid detergent goes, but I'm pretty sure it's for liquid softener and not liquid detergent. Cause one the final rinse you would have detergent still on your clothes.
I’ve been going based off what the manufacturer manual says. They left a visual diagram of where the two types of detergents go. I haven’t noticed any issues with extra detergent in the tray after the initial start since that area is where the water flows out, but i’ll keep an eye on it.
Actually, you guys are both wrong. That's the bleach dispenser and on the other side is for powdered detergent dispenser. The fabric softener dispenser is located on the top of the drum. Look for a three inch indentation with four holes in it. Pour your fabric softener in there and it will be dispensed during the final rinse cycle.
I have a 2.0 I what no were the softer go I have a softer ball and am thinking when the wash starts my ball go with the wash I need help with this thank you
The fabric softener dispenser is located on the top of the drum. Look for about a three inch indentation with four holes in it. Pour fabric softener in there and it will be dispensed during the final rinse cycle. In addition, you may have to manually rotate your drum clockwise to find the fabric dispenser on the top of the drum.
Very true. Although i did get it for my family of 5 because we weren’t going through that much clothes but it did involve breaking down into more loads sometimes. We’ve been managing just fine so far with the 2.0 since we had to return the 3.0 from finding a broken piece and they had no more 3.0 in stock.
After this comparison review i returned mine because i could hear a loose piece inside the washer and returned it for good measure. They were out of stock for the 3.0 so i've had the 2.0 since and it's been holding up just fine for our family of 6.
You purchased this same machine new or used? If it was new you should return it. If it’s used you’ll have to look for the part online. Water will come out of your machine without it.
I am also looking for a replacement. Any luck? Let me know. The white part keeps getting stuck, and I like to drain it after 5 loads bc otherwise it leaks elsewhere 😐but now I am not using it bc it has leaked from not emptying properly and I am scared of leakage.
I received it with a broken plastic piece from the outer part of the barrel so i returned it for a replacement in case it would cause any future issues. They sold out of the 3.0 which dragged out the replacement so i canceled it and got the 2.0.
The 1.6 went back when i got the 3.0. It worked well. I just needed a larger barrel to fit in all our laundry without having to do another load because a few pieces wouldn’t fit. So far the 2.0 has been perfect for our load sizes. Anything too big like king blankets go to the laundromat.
There is nowhere in the actual manual that claims you can add fabric softener although some have said that there is a spot on the barrel that you can pour it into so it disperses during the rinse cycle. Or you’d have to pause the machine and pour it in manually. I personally don’t use fabric softener because it reduces moisture wicking features from materials used for towels and athletic wear. I’ve been using new clean tennis balls in the dryer in place of wool balls.
Yes, at the top of the drum, there is an approximate three inch indentation with four holes in it.
