    Thanks guys. Such a feel good song. Glad you got to see that Scott does not always take the lead. But when he does it is always fantabulous 🤩 Matt’s Bass was also on show in this one as well. Mitch hit the high notes, the look on your faces said it all, I believe gentlemen you may have been Mitch slapped. Kirsty & Kevin as always impeccable. Hope you don’t take too long between drinks with Pentatonix. They always try to bring something different to the table. I read an opinion, which I agree with, that the lyrics are about run along to bed and read bedtime stories. Huffalumps from Winnie the Pooh, slithy toths from Alice in Wonderland, etc. Great fun watching you react to it.

    Hello Brit Pops. So glad this was your May Spotlight. This is one of my favourite PTX covers. Fantastic tempo and pace. The impeccable arrangement, vocals and wardrobe!! Mood-lifters indeed. All five of them are superb - Kirstie's tones so sharp and beautiful, Scott so raspy, Matt so warm and deep, Kevin on that beat-boxing, but Mitch with his golden tones before taking off into the stratosphere and then the lullaby at the end is just beyond exceptional. Did he break your Mitchometer? Great reaction. More PTX please.

    The original song has much more of a creepy/halloween feel to it. Slower and starts with a very long purely instrumental intro. I love how Pentatonix took it and completely changed the mood to make it upbeat and really uplifting.

    Thank you for spotlighting Pentatonix for May. They are incredible. "Come Along" is one of my all=time favorite Pentatonix videos. I am very happy that you chose to react to it. The more Pentatonix videos that you watch the more you will see different leads for songs. They never let egos get involved. They choose whichever voice is best for the parts of the songs that they are arranging.

    Dropping another comment because I was half asleep on my last one and I forgot something...
    As a group, there aren't any backing tracks as such on any of their stuff. They used some looping for the percussion sounds in 'I saw Three Ships' as doing that live with singing too would be difficult (but they made all the sounds themselves. You really need to watch their 'Recording of Evergreen' video at some point. It's around 15/20 minutes long but it's fascinating. The amount of work they put into a single phrase is nuts, and they are perfectionists). Anyway, they rarely use an instrument, and if they do you see it in the video. Usually it's Kevin's cello, though Scott wrote a beautiful seasonal song called 'Thank You' where Kevin's cello supports while Scott plays the piano. Scott and Mitch are both accomplished pianists, while Kevin plays... I think 4?.. instruments, including the sax.
    Their side projects DO have backing tracks. Scott and Mitch generally do all of it for their Superfruit stuff, unless I'm mistaken, and Mitch does everything - from writing, performing the backing tracks (usually synth heavy) and producing his own work under his 'Messer' moniker. I'm not sure if Kirsten had input on the instrumental side, but I believe she wrote all the tracks on her solo album a few years ago.
    They all contribute in the writing of their original stuff. My two favourites from Kirsten that she wrote and leads on, are 'Water' ( one of the lives from 'Popspring 2016'), and 'Be My Eyes' from a couple of years ago. Cool video for that one. They each filmed separately due to Covid, but it comes together really well.
    Big essay there, but you DID ask. And you know me, always a fountain of (sometimes) useful knowledge 😂😂😂
    I'll go away now.

  • @tundiel
    @tundiel 2 года назад +5

    Ha! I had a feeling you might do this one after I saw your reply to the suggestion last week. Any excuse to get the wigs out, eh? 😆
    Ollie calls this one 'the bouncy song', which is kind of perfect. You can't help but bounce along to it. I love 99% of their stuff, and this one is no exception. I believe this was post- Broadway for Kirsten, and you can see her confidence shining, which I love ❤️
    I'm so pleased you highlighted Matt! He's such a gem, and often is (unfairly) overshadowed because everyone loves Avi. Matt is perfect for PTX! Not that Avi wasn't, but musically Matt is on their wavelength.
    You should look at the Kirsten heavy ones when you come back to them, such as Shallow, Say Something, or Can you feel the love tonight? But before that, absolutely check out Sound of Silence. Not only do Matt and and Kirsten have great solos in there (Kirsten really flexing her powerhouse vocals), but Scott and Mitch both sing in their lower registers, which is quite rare. Well, Mitch is still pretty high, but not super high. Lol. Plus I'm still waiting to see how you score it after you reacted to Disturbed's version. Got to see my theory tested! And you know, Kirsten has solo stuff too!
    Thanks for such a fab month! I've been royally entertained! ❤

    another great reaction. this song is kind of overlooked. The original video is really weird and I don't understand it. It's just has bugs crawling across a white surface. another song frequently overlooked but masterfully arranged is can't sleep love. it is truly a work of art. there is a behind-the-scenes video. they're behind the scenes are frequently overlooked because they don't do a lot of them. those that do the behind-the-scenes video tack them on afterwards. they're only about 3 minutes. Pentatonix does do behind the scenes videos for some of their songs. I don't think many people know about that. this is one video you want to watch the behind-the-scenes.
