Thanks Dan Hurt !! I bought a diamond tester that came with all of the chemicals to test medals plus the black plate. It also came with no instructions, and I never knew what the small black plate was used for. NOW I KNOW!
I’m gonna go out in the shed, see if i can figure out where i throw it.

Three things I learned in a prospecting class, back in 1978:
    1. Gold is where YOU find it
    2. You get back what you put in; or as the instructor said chances of getting rich with a gold pan are slim to none.
    3. When out prospecting, especially in abandoned mines; look for artifacts and above all enjoy the experience of being outdoors.

Out of 3 videos on this subject yours made the most sense. Even the paper instructions that came with the kit didn’t make sense in fact the way I read it it says totally the opposite when the scratch disappears

    Hello Dan,
    • How does a person know if the Nugget doesn't have Other minerals unnoticeable but internally?
    • Heating some Silvers converts into Gold color; therefor how does a person know that it's just Yellow-silver?
    • How does a person distinguish the difference between similar appearance metals, to know if they found; Silver, White-gold or Platinum? (Because the Potential Buyers, will always discredit the actual value)
    • Can the Scratched Gold dust be restored onto the source?

The acid doesn't dissolve the gold, only Aqua regia can dissolve it, the acid (testing solution) reacts with the gold by turning it black, that's why the testing stone is black.

Mr Dan, It may be of interest to share my experiences with the gold scratch/acid kit. The kit comes in a cardboard box. After a series of tests to satisfy my initial interest, I wiped everything with an acid neutralizing solution of baking soda and returned the kit to the cardboard box in which it arrived. I carefully stored everything in a larger plastic container including a jar with baking soda, tweezers, glass dishes, etc. About a year later, I decided to test another piece of jewelry for its gold karat value. I opened the plastic container. Everything iron/steel based was badly rusted (the lid on the baking soda was rusted clear thru!). The cardboard box disintegrated with the slightest touch! FYI, store the kit with extreme care!

Aloha Dan!! Once again a VERY informative video. Thank you!! I'm hoping to swing up to B.C. later this year after I visit my mother in Seattle.

Legend has it that Dan's beard was actually minted from the finest 999.99 % gold from Mars! That's why he is unable to shave it, and why it's always perfect!!! PS that's one sexy nugget 😜

I gotta say on the 3 nugget test the first scratch was very faint where you put the acid and one spot on the tile it never really put any gold on it right next to the acid , do over on that medium size nugget or first scratch .

Great video Dan showing how to properly use Gold test acids. I metal detect old resort areas on lakes here in Michigan and I occasionally find Gold rings old enough that they have no karat markings. Test acids allow me to confirm Gold is present and approximately what karat it is. Keep up the great work you have earned my subscription many times over!

I’ve watched a few videos of Australian gold prospectors using metal detectors to find gold nuggets. Its amazing how big some of the nuggets are, and the shapes are always fascinating. The geological processes to make that happen are a complete mystery to me.

I went to a couple of different gold prospecting clubs. I'm thinking of joining 'Washington Prospectors", $50 a year and I get access to their claims. I figure this is a good way to see if I like prospecting. I bought one of those Arbor Classifiers and a few pans.
