I can't talk too much without spoiling stuffs, so spoiler alert. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I still can't help but feel bad to Mr. and Mrs. Todoroki after we found the truth of Minoru as a whole... Is it better if we tell them the truth? Or let them keep thinking that their "son" is still out there? And if we told the truth to them, will they still be in denial and refused to acknowledge that Minoru really was the culprit? Or will they get mad at us for failing to save Minoru in time? Or will they be accepting? It's really hard to think...
The fact that there is no easy for resolution for them is what makes the epilogue even more impactful, IMO. They already got very upset at the idea of Minoru being a suspect. Who knows just how far they would spiral downwards if they found out the truth the way we did? The Todorokis don't deserve that much heartbreak.
They had so much faith in Minoru. They genuinely cared for him as their son and wanted him to return so badly so that they could be a family again and he could take over the family business. If Minoru stayed with them, I think he would have been able to live a very happy life, but maybe he was already "broken" by that point, unable to come to terms with Emiko's death. I wouldn't have the heart to tell them the truth. They would be shattered. I think an big part of the game's story is that the truth is crueler than reality. I's "easier" to believe Eisuke was murdered by a serial killer than having committed suicide after an argument with the girl he liked and a poor comment by a well-meaning teacher. Megumi, Kohei, and Fukuyama will carry their guilt for a long time, despite being good people. It's sad, but that's what life is like sometimes. I agree with what @DMan_AA said. The resolution is so impactful because there's no "perfect ending" or "true route," like some VNs tend to have.
When I found out the truth I immediately thought of the Todorokis. Man, it makes my heart ache that they won't get to know about Minoru due to not having closure, but also getting to know about him in the sense that their son commited such atrocious crimes with a disfigured face. It's awful.
Man, this track hits different. The way they put the melody of the main theme in a more serious and sad tone is perfect.
