    I'm lucky enough to be learning Eskrima now, but I'd love to learn Silat too.
    I'd love them to be more common. I only knew of Chinese and Japanese martial arts mostly, and the media has you believe they're the best or main martial arts because of movies.
    But learning about these Filipino martial arts and Indonesian martial arts has opened my mind, I wonder how many other wonderful martial arts there are in the world.
    I'm happy with Eskrima, I'd love to learn Silat, and I think I would be happy with those two.

    • @andzcodz3081
      @andzcodz3081 2 года назад

      Eskrima/kali is meant for killing not for sports and btw the problem of Eskrima/Kali is that most Filipino does not know there martial arts because it only pass down through tribal warriors of Majarlika that is known Philippines today.

    Some comments are critical of the slow and choreographed movements, against an opponent who is not fighting back. If they actually fought for at the normal speed and against a aggressive opponent we would have broken arms and legs and we wouldn't be able to see the precise movements.

      they simply don't know if this stuff works or not unless they test it in a dymanic situation with a resisting opponent, until then its just theory. and i dont mean actually fucking up people's joints, just getting the actual take downs and being able to catch peoples punches and then do a take down. since iver never seen this done in sparring, even in SILAT sparring, i have to think its bullshit. no one is catching a punch or a knife mid swing and then going into a joint lock.

    • @Arkhs
      @Arkhs 7 лет назад +2

      Nizz 0matic With your definition wouldn't it be more of a hypothesis/conjecture rather than theory? It'd be a theory after it holds up against testing.

      Slow movement because learning process. One more thing you need to know silat is movement confidential and should not be saw to the public audience by pesilat or pendekar. In that video is not an silat movement but pencak. Pencak and Silat are two different things, but in a one unity. Pencak is full of beauty and Silat the way of life.

    • @AriAgung074
      @AriAgung074 9 лет назад +2

      I think the fighting is how we are able to make peace with our self and if sparring is a learning event to face the actual combat. If other people attack yourself remember my friend, the person that attack you is your brother too. Because we are human not animal. How about you?

    • @MiguelPerez-yp9rm
      @MiguelPerez-yp9rm 9 лет назад +1

      gunzonlinefifaonline Well, that's pretty obvious it's used to train and get the technique down. It's similar when training with Muay thai catching, work slow so you won't make as much mistakes when doing it fast. If you do it fast you won't forget. It's common sense.
      I think you're mostly telling yourself this isn't UFC, this is ineffective. It's best to leave if you are going that route, you don't seem to have knowledge of any martial arts like Silat. Every Martial art has it's purpose, history, strengths and weakness. Grappling arts(BJJ) sucks without the person doing ground work, Striking arts suck when going ground fighting.

    • @JTuaim
      @JTuaim 8 лет назад +1

      +Ari Agung silat is deadly. but it can also be used to control a situation. meet force with force: no more. the jurus start with defensive movements.
      Silat defense can be devastating as well. So practitioners need a strong moral structure coupled with indomitable courage and confidence. Silat folk need to understand local self defense laws as well.

    What an interesting perspective Ari Agung has. I've never heard any Pentjak Silat teacher in Indonesia, Malaysia, or Holland say that.. At least not any of the old timers..The designation of Pentjak Silat, is a term applied after World War II, and partly adopted from the Malaysians and Malay language (in Malay it's called BirSilat), the way that the language or Bahasaa Indonesian was adopted as the main language of the new nation of Indonesia after the Dutch left in the late 1940's. And BTW, Pentjak, Penjak, Pencak, are all the same word, depending on what country you come from and how you pronounce and write it, same same, color vs colour vs colore, etc. Prior to WW II, at least in Java the art was variously called Spel, Main (pronounced Mai-in), Pukulan (also spelled poekoelan, etc), or Kuntao (which is the same name the Southern Chinese use for martial arts = Fist Way). Many of the old teachers call it Silat or Penjak Silat now so people will know what they're talking about...Pentjak = to practice, Silat = the skill...so Pentjak Silat is somewhat equivalent to the word "Kung Fu" (meaning to have skill) as it originally was used....After the that thief Sukarno kicked out the Dutch, and Indonesia fought and won it's independence, as a political maneuver he exploited racism, and kicked out anybody with a foreign name, and politicized everything he could...including the martial culture to the extent, "Pentjak Silat is a Muslim art"...and "civilized'' it to a degree with the invention of Ole Raga, a free sparring system, much like Karate's kumite, or China's San Da...Not all teachers went along with this of course,...and some traditional forms, and ferocious applications remained....Much Silat these days, in Java and at least around Jakarta/Djakarta/Batavia, is whimpy to the point of being silly...Patty cake, the old timers call it..

      No! you have a great one to the martial arts comes from the Indonesian culture is already very old, from the time of Si Pitung, he is a great warrior who fought against Indonesian occupiers of antiquity, as malaysia and indonesia very close, he plagiarized the Silat from indonesia and claiming to admit that silat originated in malaysia, but it's a great one, remember it!!

      Okey, so which year did this Si Pitung lived? How long has silat been around? Plagiarized? Really? Learn anthropology before coming up with stupid comment. Silat like language is a fusion and evolution of so many influences that comes before it. There's no such thing as a single point of origin and could never be proven as such.
      Again, not very bright.....

      Do I need to say it again?? Dictate it to you so you understand?
      *If* *he* *is* *wrong,* _then_ *why* *don't* *you* *explain* *it*? Don't just act all mighty insulting people like that.. Talk is cheap..
