  • Opening scenes intend to hook us, but how do they do this? What makes a good opening scene?

That is why anime is so addictive to me, the opening scenes of my favorite anime were ALWAYS memorable

Never seen all quiet on the western front, but that looks pretty much exactly the same as kubrick's paths of glory opening scene

Nice examples of some excellent opening scenes. I think another excellent example would the opening scene in A Clockwork Orange, which sets the tone for the film perfectly and gives a great introduction to the main character and the world he inhabits.
I would love to see your take on Buster Keatons movies. If you haven't yet seen any of his films, you really should, he is one of my favourite filmmakers! I could give you some suggestions if you want.

Thank you! I've wanted to watch A Clockwork Orange for ages now but I still haven't gotten round to it. I haven't seen any of Buster Keaton's work so I would love some recommendations!

@@MaxDoesMovies My favourite feature films of Buster Keaton are The General (1926) and Steamboat Bill Jr (1928). Sherlock Jr (1924) is his most technically impressive movie, although I prefer the aforementioned two. Some of his best short films are Cops (1922) and One Week (1920).
I can also guarantee that A Clockwork Orange will not disappoint you. (Hopefully)
